I was responding to the assertion that he should have done this beforehand. Massive apologies then, I interpreted that completely wrong. 2 Quote
old dee 24,082 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 (edited) Well that cements the Weeds position as a backup ruckman. I saw Majak play some very good games at Casey. Sorry to see him go. Edited June 27, 2022 by old dee 3 Quote
3183 Dee 2,917 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I hope he’s okay. The great thing about recruiting guys like him, Dunstan, Mitch Brown etc, means that our draft recruits jump into a Casey team loaded with experience and can build up their experience playing around quality, just as those who break into the first team are able to learn shoulder to shoulder with the best. Good luck Majak - your time with the Demons has been invaluable for those young hopefuls. 3 Quote

monoccular 17,760 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Good luck Majak - so sorry that injury hit at just the wrong time when a replacement ruck was needed for Max. Still your contribution to the whole team effort in Perth for the 2021 finals campaign was invaluable, providing a valuable foil for Max in trying drills and scratch matches. Thanks for your contribution. 12 1 1 Quote

Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I really hoped he got to play at least one game for Melbourne, awful timing to get injured while Gawn is out. 4 Quote
Little Goffy 14,953 Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 It is interesting to note that despite unfortunately never playing a game for us, nobody has ever called Majak Daw a 'list clogger.' I think that reflects well on him. 5 1 Quote

I'm sure there's some exciting things in store. The timing doesn't really help a lot to be honest, retirements smack bang in the middle of the year are not that normal and our tall stocks are one crunch away from a telethon. The timing isn't great I agree. It will work against both Melbourne's & particularly Casey's prospects this season. Still, it will provide more opportunity for Jack Bell to show what he can do for Casey, and push for some consideration as a Melbourne player (late draft, rookie) in 2023. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1135842/bell-reloading-for-another-shot-in-2022 2 1 Quote

On the subject - as a Casey listed player does Bell gat any chance to be exposed to Max at training? Quote

Bell looks a good prospect and he seems to have the right attitude. As a delisted player we can just add him to our rookie list as we did Daw, (a preseason selection) without going through a draft. Or take him as a DFA later in the year into the senior list, again without going through a draft. Quote

Pre covid the Casey players rarely trained with the AFL listed players even those who were not vying for senior selection. It makes sense in that AFL players are full time and train during the work day as compared to VFL players who have outside full time jobs Quote

rpfc 29,020 Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 He really was perfect back up to Max; strong, capable, not pushing for games, and a ripping bloke from what I have heard. Loved how he talked about how much he enjoyed being ‘a part of the premiership last year’ and the juxtaposition of that attitude and of our FB is not lost on me. Teams don’t win flags, clubs do. 1 1 Quote
Neil Crompton 5,838 Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 (edited) I may have missed it, but has Majak explained why he is retiring now? Just seems odd to me. I know he is currently injured but you’d think he’d want to be part of a Casey premiership. I sincerely hope there are no other “health” issues involved. If there are, I hope we get behind him. Guest Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 It's a bit sad that he never got a game with us. Just one would have been fine. That said, I can't really remember a reserves player get a send off video on the club's SNS. It says a bit about how important he is to the fabric of the club. Well done Majak. Your persistence, your representation of your community and committment to both your clubs (seeing how happy he was after we won the flag last year was a sight to see) is inspiring. If North were smarter, they would still have you on their list. Quote

Said the latest injury setback just made him realise he doesn't have it in him to go through the recovery. Has some good opportunities waiting for him outside of footy. He seems at peace with the decision and I am sure the club will continue to support him through the transition this year. 4 1 1 Quote
