Great, not!  So it looks like they put us on Friday night when we play interstate but not when we play the two big clubs, Coll and Carlton at the G.

In one fixture article it looks like Saints/Lions on a fri night but not our game vs Carlton.

Without looking back I'd say we will have had the most mid week games and the least Friday night games of any top 8 team.  Not great for crowd size and gate revenue.

The joy of being a small club LH and it will only get worse as the AFL chases more media money. Our big mistake as supporters is expecting a fair deal.

So the reigning premiers (equal top side) and playing the most top sides in the remaining rounds; can only get one Friday night game!!!!

I'm sure there is a 2nd v 3rd there; a 2nd v 4th there, a grand final rematch, just for starters!

Hang on a second, there are some wildebeests on here who hate the Friday night fixture as they can’t make it from work or take their kids.

There is no pleasing people.

I don't understand the allure of Friday night from a fan perspective. From a commercial standpoint I get it, but night games in general are good once in a while but become a chore eventually. I'd love a string of Saturday 1pm and even Sunday 1pm games. Carlton have always been large broadcast drawcards even when they were crap, Melbourne clearly doesn't pull in big viewing volumes.

Pies game will likely slot into 1:45 Saturday and it will be a huge crowd coz its the best timeslot.

Carlton game a sat night because 3 marvel games in round 22.

Will hopefully crack 60k for both and hopefully our fan base bothers to show up in good numbers.

I hope you're right but they don't appear to schedule the big games in the 1:45pm Saturday timeslot as it's a Foxtel game.

I think both our Carlton and Collingwood games end up being Saturday night with a 3:20pm outside chance for the Pies game for Sunday FTA exposure.

For pure attendance reasons, I hope the Carlton and Collingwood games are Saturday 1.45pm or 2.10pm starts, or Sunday 3.20pm starts.

For commercial reasons, I'd want at least one to be a Friday or Saturday night, and I'd want Round 23 vs Brisbane to be a Friday night as well.

The last time we had a "normal" fixture, in 2019, the final rounds had the following games:

  • Carlton v St Kilda in Round 22 at the G was a Saturday 1.45pm game and drew nearly 52,000 (neither side was in finals contention)
  • Richmond v West Coast in Round 22 at the G was a Sunday 1.10pm game and drew 57,000+ (flag favourite vs reigning premier and 3rd on the ladder)
  • Richmond v Brisbane in Round 23 at the G was a Sunday 3.20pm game and drew 76,000+ (flag favourite vs 1st on the ladder)

Dees V Pies is on Friday night

Dees V Blues is on Saturday night

Friday v Freo and Pies, Saturday night v Carlton

The Carlton match should also be on Friday night. The final round will most likely be on a Friday night against the Lions at the Gabba so heaven forbid they gave us 4 Friday nights in a row.

They would have to put one of the three marvel games on a Thursday. We knew it would never be a Friday night.

The funny thing is that they have waited for us to lose games before giving us a fixture we deserve.

and we were both wrong aha. We were nevre a chance of a Sunday game because weve already got a fortune of 6 day breaks and they wont give us two more to get to the Brisbane game which will be the Friday night you'd think.

All these night games are good for TV exposure but personally i don't enjoy attending them, mainly due to the late finishes/getting home afterwards and no good to take my kids all under 12.

Oh also the flashing lights and booming noise after each goal is horrible when your sitting in the stands

On a side note, tickets for Geelong V Melbourne were just released an hour ago on Ticketmaster.

I just got the cheapest seat for a bargain steal of $50.....

It’s absolute extortion to charge $50 for a basic seat at a back water venue.

Just going down to re-live another Maxy Gawn after the siren kick.

Wow, under cover at least?

It appears to be the second level of the grand stand that is on the non broadcast side wing, so hopefully.

Two more Friday nights is good news for us, particularly with one being our home game against Collingwood. Fingers crossed both clubs are still going strong by then as that could be a great windfall for us, ratings-wise at least, if not also attendance. Would have been great to get the Carlton game on Friday night too, but wasn't possible with the three Marvel games.

We're a good chance to be the Friday night game in Round 23 too. Carlton v Collingwood is another huge game but Collingwood is on the Sunday the previous week and has already had a 5-day break this year, so I don't think they can have another one and therefore that can't be the Friday night. Ditto Essendon v Richmond, as Richmond's already had a 5-day break and is on the Sunday in Round 22.

If that happens we'll end the season with four Friday night games (two home) and three Thursday night games (one home), plus ANZAC Eve (away) and Queen's Birthday (away). Good exposure from a ratings perspective, even if many were away games.

Attendance-wise, we end the year with only one single home game in Melbourne in the day: Round 8 vs St Kilda, which was a Sunday 1.10pm start. We had two Saturday twilight home games, and one home game in Alice Springs to come, but the other 7 home games were all night games (Dogs, Essendon, GWS, Sydney, Brisbane, Collingwood, Carlton).

I logged on at 2.15pm and the best I could get was $70 seats (that didn't have an impeded view). The high cost is probably partly due to lower capacity because of the new stand they're building, so they'll still sell out.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
