On a slightly different tack, today’s news represents an epic failure of the campaign by the Herald Sun and its informants a few months ago to disrupt Goody’s coaching career. We should all get together soon at the Sorrento Hotel and drink a toast to the health of Simon Goodwin and the Melbourne Football Club!

Took a pay cut so the club could retain the other coaches due to the reduced soft cap , says a lot about character , hopefully others may take same attitude

Ideally the club should put in place a succession plan? By the time Goodwin's contract is up, he would have been 10 years with the club. Although it's hard to make any assumptions at the moment, I'd assume in 2025 we should still be Premier contenders.

I agree if only to be fair to potential replacements. Just do the exact opposite of the pies process.

And it's goodys call.

Wholeheartedly agree with majority of sentiments expressed.

Great speech by Pert, with underlying message sacrifice and one in all in for success.

But my favourite was Goody at the end:

- “We’re only getting started boys”

Denasty - hear we come!!

Go Demons!!

Not sure if you’ve seen the Gary Pert announcement to the players, but Goody left a lot of money on the negotiating table, in order that the current coaching set-up could remain despite the soft cap restrictions. He was entitled to ask for much more dough, but preferred that his team could stay as is. Probably also the reason for the 2 year deal. Thanks Goody!

Where did you see GP's announcement 3183? I love to read/see it!

Anyway, Great news that Goody's re-signed. Great coach, great bloke, great teacher - not just of players and staff but of fans also...

The Pert appointment was viewed without a lot of enthusiasm at the time but I feel he has now well and truly proved himself. He has done a great job so far.

Careful bro. If you say say Pert’s name enough times @Mach5 will magically appear.

Thanks LH, this is GREAT to watch! Goody is an awesome person putting the salary needs of his players above his own. To hear him say at the end that "we've only just started" gave me chills! Go DEES!

Yawn. Cheap gag. Winning will cover over a multitude of sins. Pert is not alone, but he and the board are like a politician focused on the now & re-election, with no interest in the long term. Enough for some. A couple of flags in the bank and it’ll be enough for me. We can try to recover from the mistakes once they’re gone. I’d prefer we do better in all facets now, but I guess I’m greedy. Long may our reign live on.

Isn't it a long term view to put $20 mill plus away for future funds?

When  we recruit we look to the future ( snd the present)  by type of players and payment negotiations.

Again  no detail from you Mach 5 where we are not factoring in our future. If it's our Training/Admin base than we are being delayed by the fact that it is in the State Govt  hands.

Put up ( with examples) of lack of foresight OR shut up as you only make yourself look ignorant and panicky in decision making.

Did Gary Pert run over your cat?

I'd say his performance as CEO and the state the club is in, and the direction for the future is fairly self evident to anyone that isn't harboring some sort of deep personal bias against him.
