Firstly, this is merely a suggestion and by no means do I wish to annoy the Demon Army who do an amazing job and who volunteer huge amounts of time and effort to support the Melbourne Demons. I have a lot of admiration and respect for them. Especially as it would be a lot of hard work preparing banners and all the other things they do to support the club.

As for my suggestion, I am sure a fair few of us do, being fans of Australian Rules Football in general, often watch other AFL games on TV besides our beloved Melbourne Demons. However, has anyone else noticed that quite a few of the other AFL cheersquads have large flags with the oldschool 1980s logos on them?

I have definitely seen the Western Bulldogs, Essendon and Collingwood cheersquads with flags using their 1980s logos. I think they look brilliant!

I am a big fan of the Melbourne Demons 1980s logo, as shown here:

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR8MbTHNZMe8l6yC-h7aSK

My question is, where did the other AFL cheersquads get their 1980s logo flags made and would it be worthwhile seeing if people are interested possibly getting them made for the Melbourne Demons cheersquad perhaps? People could possibly chip in a little bit of cash to help pay for one or two of them to be made maybe?

However, that's only if the Demon Army are interested in this suggestion though? They may already have plenty of flags for the time being as I am not part of the cheersquad and don't know if they want more flags or have enough people to wave them?

Anyway, I am just putting the idea out there as I would hope that with our recent Premiership success more people would like to be part of the Melbourne Demons cheersquad and have flags to wave? Especially younger supporters? Plus I think it would be great to see the Melbourne Demons 1980s logo being waved on large flags like other AFL cheersquads are doing.

Didn't think my suggestion of 1980s logo flags was that horrible?! 🤔

Either way, I would love to see the Demon Army grow in numbers and have more flags being waved at games.

I agree would look great and I've also noticed the 80s emblem giant flags in oppo cheer squads. It got me wondering how they all decided to include these this year? Obviously some discussion amongst the groups or the AFL providing them to the club cheer squads??

It would be great to bring the Demon back - I like our current logo but my kids think its boring - they want something with a Demon on it. Would be great to have the monogram as the "official" logo but a Demon logo for other branding/merchandise

That's a good point.

Did discussion amongst rival AFL Club cheersquads actually happen or did the AFL fund it? I imagine it was just done independently by each AFL Club cheersquad? I can't imagine the Essendon, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood cheersquads coordinating together to be honest. It wouldn't be very civil! 😂

Nevertheless, I am definitely curious as to where the 1980s logos flags were made? Who was the printer/flag-maker? If we can find out who produced the flags then we can look to obtain quotes and find out how much it would cost to get them made. 🤔

i’d prefer this one to the ‘Chinese demon’ used before 1987. IMO this logo represents much more success than the other one. I am not sure why we use that retro demons logo, as it uses the light blue colour palette.

I used to love the early 1990s Demon mascot when I was a kid at primary school. 🥰

I remember having it on a jumper that my Parent's bought for me way back then and wearing it all the time. Those were the days! 😁

That logo would look brilliant on a flag too I'm sure! 😎👍

It grew by one just yesterday. 😁
And no, there’s no funding from the AFL.

I am definitely still curious as to where the Collingwood, Essendon and Western Bulldogs cheersquads got their 1980s logos flags made.

Frustratingly, I don't have a clue how to find out? I guess I could email the cheersquads and ask? I am assuming it must be a flag making company in Melbourne somewhere?

I like any heritage logo. I think it’s an acknowledgment of our history in a supporter focused way.

I love seeing people at the ground in old gear. My nephew and I always laugh about the sponsors logos. Still a few Drake’s floating about, but we’ve always got the most respect for folks in the Kaspersky gear. Dark, dark days to be shelling out $150 for a jacket.

I'd rather leave anything to do with the 80s up to 87 back where it belongs. Even this alternative royal blue jumper gives me night terrors occasionally.

One of my first memories of football was seeing the 80's retro demon logo flashing up on the scoreboard after we kicked a goal with an animation of fireworks in the background. It really does have a special place in my heart and would prefer to have it as the 80's flag logo in the cheer squad.

All the official ones on here….. and my fave ‘demon’ behind Jack’s calf. What about bringing the fuschias back? (far right).

I quite like the look of these old logos. I’d be happy to see them flying on the flags again

Hi there!

Yeah so recently as some may have noticed we have a lot of new flags, I got them made by some lady in my town that has a sewing machine.

As for the demons logo flags, they're made by flagworld I believe.

They're 3x2.5 meters large and cost 300 odd to print, bit out of budget for me, but I could maybe bring it up with the DA.
Some of the recent ones we got made cost like 50 max due to fabric discounts ect.

Hope this gave some insight :)

I never really understood why more wasn’t done with this logo. I thought it was really good. Maybe a little too kiddo for some

I reckon he looks like a love child of Garry Lyon and Guy Rigoni

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
