Are you serious.  I always thought that voting was subjective based on opinions, personal assesments and favourites (see my vote for Spargo).  If it was objective all the votes would be the same and there would be no point in this thread.

To suggest that DLs are wrong in there voting leads to bullying and intimidation.  There are an infinite number of other threads on DL where you can do that.

Ok fair enough, I'll tone it down but there's more of that going on in this week's thread other than me just so you know.

I just get a bit frustrated when a player seems to be consistent across votes here than no-one else externally has even mentioned.

I don't think any other specialist forwards have appeared in the votes.  But anyway, it's all in the eye of the beholder.  The only votes that matter at all are the coaches.  It's nice we all get a chance to have an opinion on Demonland and sometimes it's similar to the coaching panel, or the media and often it isn't.

Yeah that's right, everyone makes a contribution.

Gawn wasn't listed in the best in the Age last week either and got 8 coaches votes.  I wouldn't pay too much attention to the Ronny Lerner's (HS) and Courtney Walsh's (the Age) of the world.

So in other words, don't pay attention to credible external media experts and only pay attention to biased armchair fans who mostly haven't played a game of football in their life?

Good to see Hunt get some recognition. Maligned player - he was very good last night. Think he sometimes gets mixed up with Langdon (confuses the commentators too). Spargo I thought was really good, all night. Petty - superb. May too. Best full back we've had since Tassie Johnson, and we've had several excellent ones, including when we have been lousy.

In what way is 27 possessions with 13 contested a shocker? Pretty bewildered that 4 people liked this comment too.

Correct. Put in all night, in a lot of traffic. Missed a couple of very easy ones. Had he got those, he's in the best few.

or pay attention to the coaches votes.  Everyone has an opinion.  This is a forum to express it.

Apologies to Langdon who got a lot of the ball but I thought was fairly sloppy. Loved Sparrow's game too, and a number of others played OK.

I know Trac is Trac, but seriously Oliver is just as good at what he does. His hands are the best in the game.

And everyone lauds CPS strength.

But Oliver is freakish how he can be held by two players and still get a kick away.

They are the dynamic duo.

Questioning my inclusion of him in my votes is more than reasonable it's the 'shocker' part I'm surprised by. Anyone who understands the way we play our game would see he played a huge part in our structure when he didn't have the footy. We locked the ball in our forward 50 for a lot of the game. We had to because we were so fricken awful with kicking accuracy. On many occasions when the Tigers could have rebounded we worked relentlessly to put pressure on their defensive ball carriers.

In games where you have essentially 'kicked yourself out of it' the only real way to win is with sheer hard work and pressure. ANB had 24 pressure acts, 24! Along with 27 possessions if that's seen as a shocker then I'd say we have a pretty darn good football team then!

I love his pressure and his work rate was strong, he never stopped trying, and didn’t drop his head, but I wasn’t voting for him because hie was a shadow of his recent self with decision making and DE. I wasn’t arguing shocker, my point is his disposal was off his new normal standard. Be clear on this I love ANB.

I hear you Dee fence and it's a fair point. Certainly wasn't suggesting you thought otherwise if it came across like that.

coaches went:

Oliver 10 (5/5)

Langdon 7 (4/3)

Vlastuin 6 (4/2)

May 3 (3/-)

Petracca 2 (2/-)

Brayshaw 1 (1/-)

Sparrow 1 (1/-)

Goodwin definitely voted for Petracca if you listen to his post game presser.  Which means he thought Vlastuin was second best and therefore Hardwick gave May 3.  So well done to the very few Demonlanders who had Tracc in the votes!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
