I was a bit sad to see Frost leave the Dees, but his butchering of exit kicks from defense is horrendous

He was always a heart in your mouth type of player. Sometimes his manic running looked awesome but equally it often cost us.

Aw no not again! Concussion?

Very sad.  Had several hits to the head.

The doctor dragged him off, after the knee to the head.

He failed the concussion test.

Listed as injured along with Mitch Lewis. If CJ does play I reckon you move Hunt into the forward line to tag him.

Both of them did hamstrings mid-week, Jiath's was on Friday.

Would have to be minor for either to be available for our game this coming Saturday.

I feel Freo are a genuine contender this season. They’re playing with confidence that reminds me of us last season, but there’s a passion and desire to do team acts that stands out for me. Lobb is a dangerous tall forward that would seriously challenge May, while they’ve got the smalls at ground level putting pressure on.

Will be interesting to see where they sit come round 11 when we face them at the G. If they’re right up there it might well be the biggest game between the two clubs since we lost to them in the finals in (I think) ‘05.

But seeing Sydney pile those goals on at the end was very reminiscent of us powering home in the Granny, definitely expecting them to be there at the pointy end of the finals series.

Early days it’s looking like our strongest opponents are interstate.

Makes finishing top two all the more important. Freo, Sydney and Brisbane potentially rounding out top 4 all of a sudden a home final means so much more.

is there any chance we could play Smith on the wing, and Hawks play Frost on him, that entertainment alone would be worth the price of a ticket :) :)

Would Howe get a game with our current mob with no injuries?

No... he is an intercept marker and provides little in the way of fast rebound. He's just a flashier less efficient version of Lever. Mind you Lever's rebound kicking is not fantastic but he always seems to get his loopy kicks to a team mate

Yea. I guess I was kinda playing devils advocate.

It shows how far we have come when he was seen as one of our better players.

Okaaay, so the younger, fit, sober guy punched the older, unfit, drunk guy for not observing the minute silence thereby causing a [censored]-tonne more noise?
Am I missing something, Deeves?

Fair point. I guess it's the biggest mistake you can make on such a day but yea didnt really fathom that response. the older bloke seemed to absorb those blows quite well though. A bad day out at the footy.

I'll give myself some demerit points for posting it as well.

Parish 30 possessions to HT. Pretty good in anyone's book.

too many handballs and 1-2 'back to me' touches that have had little effect on the play

i really like ellen but he needs to power out of stoppages and / or clear congestion with his handballs like clayton

Gutted for poor Paddy McCartin - he was really showing his ability down back with the Swannies. Game over for his footy career methinks. And this solidifies my view about cameras in the change rooms. We should not have seen that footage between him and his doctor, nor of him leaning against the locker. A bridge too far for mine. That is a very private moment of a human being in despair and is no place for voyeurs.

The Pies v Bummers game is interesting. If the Bummers would stop handballling in circles on the wing and set up better across half forward they would be in front. Parish was just getting free ball in the 1st quarter but he was very damaging in the 2nd. And the big buffoon Draper is actually staring to take Grundy apart.

No way do the Pies sustain their current manic tempo corridor footy. They will be exhausted by 3rd quarter and unable to run it out. Already some of their younger players look cooked. But Essendon are just as young so I reckon the 4th quarter will be a dour slog.

I know Howe left for success at the club he barracked for, but he is no dud. His intercepting is outstanding and he is a very good field kick.

I am adding Quaynor to me list of "player I love watching at other clubs". Currently it is Heeney and Tom Green. Quaynor with the ball splits the game apart - brilliant.

Wow, that became almost a rant...

It would make a lot of us pretty angry Deever so don't be too hard on yourself. We don't know what was said either.

Ugly, ugly scenes though. Don't want to see this behaviour at any sport event.

Definitely a lot of 1-2s and 20 handballs. Only the 9 contested as well.

Needs to add something to his repertoire like you said or maybe a goal a game.

It's misery-porn. and it adds nothing to the spectacle.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
