From what I saw of the Vic Country vs WA game yesterday I like the look of Aaron Cadman.  Could be on the radar if we get an early pick.

Strange as it may seem, there’s still one game left in the 2022 NAB AFL National U18 Championships and it’s the series decider between Vic Metro and Vic Country. The game will be played at Marvel Stadium on Thursday September 22 with the first bounce at 4:35pm. You can also watch on the Footy Channel if you have Foxtel.

I really support and want to see Father-Son remain in the AFL.

Will Ashcroft looks a ready made AFL player. He’ll walk into the Lions team and play in their midfield next year.  Not quite Nick Daicos but very similar

How will they be able to get both Ashcroft and Fletcher?

Cadman V Jefferson will be interesting. Is it on Kayo?

Down the bottom of the Kayo main page they have the Foxtel sports channels available for live streaming, so as long as they don't have to black it out because of some streaming rights issue you should be able to catch it there, at a minimum.

Points !! It’s a decent injection of talent for a top 4 team to have.

Finally, the last game of the NAB National Championships  -  and the decider between Vic Metro and Vic Country. It’s winner take all as both sides are undefeated.

Teams named for 2022 NAB AFL National Championships U18 Boys decider

Highlights from my point of view are:-

• Melbourne FC NGA player Finn Emile-Brennan is in the Vic Country side;

• Seven players from the NAB League Premier team will feature in the Vic Metro team: W. Ashcroft, H. Sheezel, C. Mackenzie, O. Hotton, C. Clarke, J. Anderson and T. McMullin along with B. Hempel who is an emergency.

…. and a preview from Rookie Me Central

Preview | 2022 AFL U18 National Championships – Vic Country vs. Vic Metro

Looking at the squads for the final game Vic Metro and Vic Country, there could be up to 18-19 players drafted from this game into the AFL next year.  Obviously the stars like Ashcroft are on show, but it’s a huge match for many youngsters trying to shine in front of recruiters before the draft.

1st quarter

Vic metro - the star was Max Gruzewski. Two great contested marks. Two goals. Looks a good mark and build. Around 192cms . Lovely stylish kick for goal.
Charlie Clarke - good tackle and goal from 45m.

Vic country - Bailey Humphrey.  Big and strong and Aaron Hamill like. Cadman kicked a good goal from 40m after a free kick. Oliver Hollands racking up possessions and just runs and accumulates.

Two goals in the first quarter to Max Gruzewski, a 193cm tall key who can play forward and back and who Melbourne has spoken with.

hows the size on bottom ager reid for country

1st half. Lots of youngsters who will fill top 10,20 and 30 draft positions.
Vic Country - Bailey Humphrey, Jakob Konstanty, Jaxon Binns, Caleb Mitchell, Oliver Hollands and Harley Reid all shining out imv.  Cadman well held but he’s a star and has future star already stamped.
Finn Emile-Brennan had had 3 beautiful kicks but looks so slight in the body that he’s pushed aside to easily.  Probably only a rookie chance imv.

Vic Metro - Will Ashcroft will play round 1,2023.  Already 13-14 possessions and such a great skilled midfielder.  Others to shine were Gruzewski in the first quarter, Lewis Hayes as key back, Harry Sheezel’s class and Darcy Edmunds with skill on left or right foot. Oli Hotton very quiet 1st half.

Has looked very good. Moving up from the edge of the first round methinks:

Emile Brennan's kicking is sublime but the kid looks 2D he's that skinny

Jaxon Binns continues to show as a type of player that I’d like see at the Dees. He is another elite runner like Langdon and runs and runs and bounces and runs and delivers. AFL qualities including clearance link running and able to kick goals.  Whilst a priority is a key forward, another pacy running mid would be handy.

Do whatever we can to get Cadman !!! Wow. He’s going to be a star and might be the virtual number 1 behind Ashcroft.

Yep totally agree! Not only does he have huge talent but he seems a really smart footballer. We should be talking to west coast re the Jackson trade…or telling Freo they need to get us pick number 2…Cadman looks that good!

That may have been the best champs game I’ve seen. The standard in that last quarter was very high.

Agree. I don't watch the U18s and was amazed at the quality of the play.

Reid was good as was Cadman. Miles different to the way the AFL game is played though and there is no way Cadman or Reid get that much room in the forward line. You are really just betting on development and upside.

Vic Metro pulled off a great victory to win the championships.

Vic Metro

Mids

Will Ashcroft -️ definite number 1.  Was like Sam Walsh in his draft year. So smart. Great skills. Walk into round 1 2023 at Lions.
Harry Sheezel- ️- quieter today but he oozes class. His goal in the last where he won the contest and spun out to kick a banana goal from 30m was outstanding.  Classy by foot and will play half fwd then into midfield role after 2-3 years.
Cam Mckenzie- almost an Ashcroft type clone. Clean by hand and has vision to spot targets by hand or foot. Probably top 10-12 prospect.
Darcy Edmunds- slightly built wingman. Kicks well on both feet and can run the field. 50+ draft pick but worth the late selection

Cooper Harvey - got into the game and showed his Dads determination and smarts. A good father son addition fo Kangas.

(Elijah Tsatas, Alwyn Davey jnr and Oli Hotton were quiet today).

Defenders:

Josh Weddle - very good rebound half back. Good size and pace for tall defender. If he didn’t have Lever,Turner,Smith then Weddle would be a good get.
Bailey Macdonald- sme with his pace and dash from half back. Took the game on and used the corridor.
Lewis Hayes - key back who had the better of Humphrey and controlled the defence, but was physically beaten in the last qtr by young Harley Reid.
Paul Pascu - almost a Hibbo type clone. Taller half back with excellent driving left foot kick. Disciplined defender. Perhaps won’t get drafted but he’s one to key an eye on

forwards

Matthew Jefferson - contested well and kicked vital goal in last qtr.  A few years ahead in the gym but he’ll appeal to some clubs as a project forward.
Max Gruzewski- very strong in first quarter with two excellent contested marks and goals. Only a few opportunities after that. At 192cms, might just be a key forward if he grows. I’d definitely see him being a key name in JTs list on draft day.
Charlie Clarke - quiet today but kicked 2 crucial goals in the first half. Smart and pacy.  Can see him as an opportunist forward at AFL level.
Jovan Petric - taller midsized half forward. Quiet until last quarter when he kicked an amazing goal and marked well in contests. Played in the ruck in a burst.  If you had a rookie pick, he’d be considered.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
