Must have been a message from HQ for the commentators to talk up Ugle-Hagan tonight...

It's a deliberate tactic.  By moving that far away, they are not subject to the "Stand" rule.

Of course, it allows their opponent a clear 5 -  10 metre run forward.

The Dogs coaching team must think it is worth it.  I'm not so convinced.

I don’t see much difference between ceding 5-10 meters or having to stand on the mark.

Seems like a neutral trade off.

My big fear last year was that the dogs would get this free kick treatment in the gf. So glad we smoked them and umps weren't as one sided as tonight.

So if you move back a meter or two then it Must be worth it

I'm not sure what the cut-off point is where you are deemed to be no longer standing the mark.

Credit to the Dogs for their defensive work, Swans’ forward structure is a hot mess at the moment.

What a dreadful game of footy. The swans kicking id deplorable and dogs not much better. No real pressure as well.

….. but they have Buddy 😮😱🤔

Don't understand all the Tim English hate. He has been good tonight in both attack and defence.

Swans the best ball movement team??

yeah nah

No hate from me. He’s a good ordinary ruckman. WA is welcome to him so long as they leave Jackson the unicorn alone.

Bulldogs 17 frees to 7

Not unusual for the team smashing the contested possessions to win the [censored] count. Putting their head over it

Dogs going to [censored] the bed here. Swans much fitter. Swans to win by 30+

21 free kicks to7.

Seems to be completely different interpretations here depending on the jumper colour, bizarre inconsistency

Same with every Bulldogs game. Been happening for years. Won them a flag 6 years ago. It’s ridiculous.

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.
