Is it just me or are St Kilda the most middle of the road team in the comp. I think they will win a good number of games but are miles away from winning a premiership.

A bit premature I think. I agree that they're not likely to make the 8 but I thought that before all the COVID cases. I think their performances have been admirable so far all things considered. This was the borttom 5 and their percentages after 2 rounds last year and 3 of these sides made the 8, so maybe everyone shouldn't be writing anyone off just yet (neither should they be declaring Carlton a premiership chance).

BL 2 0 84.5
CA 2 0 78.2
GW 2 0 77.5
ES 2 0 73.9
NM 2 0 48.4

Hi SD. I only wrote it as a play on WC and toilet. I agree with you that they're not totally out of the finals picture but losing two of their most winnable games first up will make it very difficult.

Are you a closet Fiver fan? Is anyone a closet fan?

Sure. If clubs keep paying you 6 figures and you can get away with doing the bare minimum, why wouldn’t you.
Just a shame because he could have been anything, but I had a feeling that when he left Melbourne that was the end of his career. I thought he’d plod along and he has.

Which is why blokes like Phillipoussis and Kyrios couldn't be bothered.
Get paid millions for coasting on natural talent.
Not every-one gives a sheet about being #1.

This game is poor quality fare

Max King begs to differ! 😆

There's a lot of poor teams, but it is only early days. A few will sort themselves out.

Sure, sounds easy. Why doesn’t everyone just become like him.

I am just like King. Injured and not playing AFL footy.

(unless you mean the OTHER King ...)

You never like to see good players get injured. Then you see it's Essendon and are forced to re-evaluate your whole life.

Max King looks like the weird keyboard player Ron Mael from the band Sparks.

Interesting watching Saints v Freo. Some horrible skills and link-ups followed by breath taking contested marks, tackles and goal kicking. The defensive spread of both midfields is highly questionable at times.

I really like Ratten as a coach, but even he has been unable to push through the glass ceiling of "meh, beige, pedestrian" that haunts this team from the Alan Richardson era. If Paddy Rider and Zak Jones can get back, perhaps something else can emerge.

Freo surely are better than this. Or am I seeing something that isn't there?

St kilda missing 3-4 good players. Ryder, Zac Jones, Billings, Hannebery

As I’ve stated before they should make finals. King is the difference, could kick 70

Synth pop went out of style so I'm glad he was able to find another vocation

Freo on their home ground have no excuses. No Fyfe no Freo?

Him and his brother Russell are both in their late 70's and still touring Mazer. Edgar Wright (Sean of the Dead) did a big doco on them last year .

Getting a little concerned about a certain bloke who so far, after a couple of years rest has gone close to putting two blokes in hospital in two games. Which brings me to my next observation of how many players seem to being dazed or damaged after heavy tackles. Anyone else notice?

And that is why the Saints are where they are, ordinary list management.

I'm taking comfort in the thought that St Kilda won't play this well again for the rest of the season.

Based on that Max should be able to keep playing until he's 60.

Godfather offer from Geelong?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
