2022 Match Review Panel

Featured Replies

It's the second time Thomas has injured one of our players in 2 games this year.

He likes to dish it out, not sure if he puts himself on the line to the same extent.

But I'd certainly love that tackle it was Viney or Kossie.

Absolute bollocks.

His arms were free. Fair tackle - no prior, ball-up.

I was wrong & you are correct his arms are free.

However absolutely reckless to pile drive him 6 inches into the ground. Arguably even more dangerous than a sling tackle.

If its not illegal it should be.

Incident explained:
The incident involving North Melbourne’s Tarryn Thomas and Narrm’s Ed Langdon from the first quarter of Saturday's match between North Melbourne and Narrm was assessed. Langdon gains possession of the ball in North Melbourne’s back pocket before he is tackled by Thomas. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that Thomas’ actions did not constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

I wish they'd actually explain these incidents.

A big dumping tackle is a reportable offence. They can state why they think it wasn't or why the level of force makes it less than a fine or suspension, but instead they don't. There's not actually any explanation in their explanation!

Couldn't agree more.

All this provides is a description of what we can see in the footage and then "it was the view of the Match Review Officer that [player's] actions did not constitute a reportable offence".

We'll have to agree to disagree Franky. These things happen every week & the usual worst case scenario is that the player underneath gets winded. Ed was unlucky.

I'm a believer in tackling with intent & if the player tackled comes out of it a bit sore, so much the better.

As others have said, I'd applaud any of our blokes who laid that tackle

Disagree, I thought it was a fair albeit bone crunching tackle. If the shoe was on the other foot we’d all be lauding it.

I don't think it should even have been a free kick let alone a report.

Head/spine injuries are the danger areas. Ribs, shoulder, etc. are the risks inherent in a full contact sport

So 4 weeks is still a win for the cats, but also within parameters. If it had been a bad boy like Toby 6 or for Hawkins 1

GARBAGE SHOULD HAVE GOT 6

Got of very very lightly🤔

Ok so Stewart will miss the blues and port Adelaide

question. Will that cost jeelong 4 points

foes he make a difference in those games ?

I agree. Or at least 5. 4 weeks was the absolute minimum for what was a deliberate, high,  late,  shoulder to the head . A hit  which also lead to a pretty severe concussion.

Any other player from any other team would have ‘been.n example of’ and copped 6.

Could you imagine if that was Toby Greene laying the bump?

When Scott was giving 4 votes to Stewart he obviously got confused with the match Review Penalty

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
