Investment in the future.
Some detailed strategic planning. Investment in resources to implement said strategy.
Tapping into the markets that are under our nose, but snobbery seems to stop us from doing anything with them.

Yeah, if only we were improving our connection to Casey by say improving facilities, having some kind of family activities out there, maybe even getting the colours and name aligned... Would be amazing hey?

And then, imagine having some kind of, say, 'Future Fund', directly in place for planning and investment... Again, amazing right?

I guess the only thing holding us back is some kind of publicly announced plan. Something strategic perhaps for the next few years. That would be even better.

If only...

You're a funny guy.

Can you name a junior league near Casey we have put significant work into? That we have won over?

There are two that I know of in our catchment area. The largest which represents 1000s of boys and girls looks like being lured by Hawthorn to their huge Dingle facility with little resistance from us. The entire league, that is, playing on Hawthorn ovals. A massive win for the Hawks. My understanding is that the league has had little contact from us

I'm sure HFC sponsors would love to supply club merch to those kids and their siblings

The other smaller junior league we have put very little work into

Sometime just winning a GF isn't enough to generate new, young supporters

Nah I don't follow the junior leagues mate, and nowhere did I mention anything about them.

What are the two that we've apparently missed out on? Do you have the data on them as far as how many kids, what areas they're from etc? In what way have they been 'lured' to Dingley? It's not super close to Casey so seems interesting kids would be signing up to play somewhere half an hour away.

Perhaps we just don't have the finances and resources to do what a huge club like Hawthorn does? Was only a couple of years ago MFC expanded their junior programs (South East Juniors development program), small clubs can only move so quickly and do so much. There's also all the work the Red & Blue Foundation does including Indigenous and Mulitcultural squads, girls academy, school open days at Casey, and the boys and girls U13s, 14s & 15s program I mentioned above.

Just think the narrative that we don't do anything is incorrect and you need to judge it against our position financially as a club.

The topic is a valid one but the way @Mach5 is going about raising it is p**s poor IMO.

If you are aware of specific failures within the club's management, explain what they are.

To the rest of us mere members, all we see is increased membership, increased sponsorship, better FTA fixturing and more relevance in both the media and the general footy public.

The only example I've seen you put up here is a criticism of sponsorship, which is a topic on which the publicly available evidence suggests we have improved as a result of the flag. Which, to me, makes you 0 from 1 so far.

i'm happy to debate how we're going embedding ourselves into the Casey region as well as other areas of Melbourne that might be considered appropriate for us to target, but you've not raised any evidence to suggest we're failing to do that.

Just for reference, Hawthorns catchment zone is the Gippsland Power and Eastern region. Ours is obviously Dandenong Stingrays, which shares a border with both.

I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that Hawthorn would be allowed to directly infiltrate junior leagues in the Stingrays zone.

SMJFL is the larger one. I believe it is in our catchment, though post pandemic anything could have changed

You're asking me if I have data on children and where they live??? Only the league would have that and guard it closely, as they should. Even if it is de-personalised

I'm telling you that a good sized junior league is more likely than not to play on the 6 Dingley ovals that Hawthorn control. Not for certain, but won't be playing on Casey ovals. Hawks have done a lot of work with them. Its a fantastic opportunity that we did not take advantage of. Those kids, their siblings and parents will get HFC merch and access to players. Fish in a barrel stuff.

No one is saying we don't do anything, but this is a good example of a junior league in our catchment that we didn't do enough with

As you say, we have a a good future fund, we have the money, hopefully we are using more of it to get young kids involved with the club. They are our future, not old f@rts like us

I'll leave you to keep the discussion going, I've made my point. Its easy to argue the small stuff, harder to talk constructively about further improving our position, which is what this thread should be about

I don't have the answers, I'm obviously not a MFC insider, but I think we could do more

I don't know a lot about junior leagues and catchments, but I would have thought Moorabbin was in the Saints zone, not ours? (Especially given it seems the office is at RSEA Park) And that seems to be where the SMJFL is based? Not sure if I'm looking at the right info, but the league I'm looking at has no teams in our catchment zone.

a couple of years back it was so blatant that if you signed up as a junior you got a complimentary saints membership

My understanding is that the saints have done less than us and we share parts of that zone/league

Yes, I believe we haven't done much for some time, if at all, but it is definitely a zone shared with us. Opportunity lost.

We've done a lot right in the last year,  junior involvement is one aspect we can improve upon if we wish to stay in the Casey region

Fail!!! Didn’t you see we’re actually paying them for the extra year, in fact Pert is paying some out of his own pocket!

Glad to see with Mahoney gone there is someone in the club getting bent over. (The talk of Mahns/Dees getting bent over each trade period was silly,).

I can tell you right now it looks like we are sh*tting the bed behind the scenes.
Now is when the work needs to be done.

Turned a $2 million profit in a year with almost no spectators and laid the basis for another profit in 2022 with a $4 million boost to merchandise income...early signs would be that we are making the flag pay.

Membership numbers will be the next signal and are promising so unless you can point to something concrete I am lost to what you are getting at.

Below is an email my 12 year old grandson sent to MFC today.
Last year joining them up was a time-consuming project over 3 phone hook-ups. This year I gave up trying to deal with them and handballled it to my daughter who passed it on to him.

Hi,
My mum has been trying to renew my membership since Monday and also my brother’s and sister’s memberships.
She rings MFC but is on the phone for 40 mins waiting until it cuts out every day for the past 3 days. She emailed too, and tried the chat bot.
Can we renew asap please? Mum and me tried to do it online but it keeps saying access denied when we continue shopping.
Please help,

 I understand your situation BUT

1. I have never had to wait more than about 20/25 mins for Membership to answer.

2. Email response was about a week in time that's not good but I simply  rang and got through as in 1 above after 2 days.

3. Ring about 3pm close at 4pm weekdays  but if online before are taking calls.or early at 9am.

4. Mum can't use the computer ? Can be done by going into Membership on the MFC website.

5. Ring and speak to Admin and ask them to return a call to youvre your memberships.
6.You can also get on a Rollover  in Membership from season to season which starts in October and automatically comes out of your Bank Account (You can pay monthly if that suits better)

7. Ticketing for matches is different again this year and Membership can assist with help on any questions.

I have always found Membership Dept  to be about 25/35 mins wait away and also super accomodating.

Good luck and Go Dees

Now this is a great point where the club is lacking!! I renew my membership when I can as money is tight around this time of year. But as I get a grand final guarantee every year with my interstate membership, you can’t do it online. You have to ring and sometimes you’ll be on hold for 45mins only to be cut off.

add a couple of extra employees and more importantly fix the website! I’ve had the same membership GFG for years. Should be a simple as log in, same as last year, payment details. Bang, 2 mins.

@Mach5has given us nothing. Bad enough when someone jumps on a thread saying I have inside info, but I’m not telling anyone. But starting a thread just to do it is…well…Troll.

AFLSE is the governing body which looks after junior football in the region. They cover southern Melbourne jfl, Frankston district jfl, Mornington peninsula jfl, and outer south east jfl, Melbourne and St Kilda are the 2 teams that have access to these leagues. If you are a member of any of these competitions then you can choose either a complimentary junior membership to either Melbourne or St Kilda. I coach girls football in a league that is in St Kilda’s region and my daughter is in St Kilda’s Generation Academy but have the option to nominate Melbourne as her club. From the girls side of things St Kilda seem to be going for quantity over quality for their academy teams which maybe a reflection of where their AFLW side is at. All reports I hear is that Melbourne is doing a great job with marketing and development in its region and a premiership will certainly help.

My son came home today to tell me about how his class is getting to have a zoom meeting with players (no idea who yet), but he is very excited. Granted his heart beats true, but it’s the sort of thing that will help him convert his 8yo mates (something he tries to do😂).

I have expressed doubts about Pert in the past, but credit to club here, things like this can win kids hearts

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
