I think RR is just being cruel

Miller is the only tall marking forward we have left. No way is he playing on Pavlich.

I can feel a 10 goal burst coming up from the Pav.

Thank god Farmer is still suspended!!!

The boys have been training the whole summer emphasising the run and carry game, now is the time to use it to try and win using the cattle we've got. We have to play a western bulldogs style game, with Greeny filling the role of Brad Johnson. Having a smaller player as the number one forward means the ball has to come in quickly and low to the leading player in plenty of space, 3 commodities which have not been part of our game plan this year. Greeny is quick, a very good mark and can kick em from anywhere in the 50, he plays the full forward role in a similar fashion to brad johnson.

Id place Greeny, ooze and either Holland, PJ or whitey in the square. The big bloke stays at home for the long kick to the square or is the first lead wide to rake there defender out of the way, then ducks back to the square. Ooze and greeny work the forward fifty leading up at the ball carrier.

Space is important for this to work, Miller would play well up the ground being the link player between the rebound 50 and the attacking charge forward. He has a huge engine and must run all day, he is never going to take big contested plucks, though needs to be taking the ball out in front cos he is running his opponent into the ground like last time we played freo.

Bruce has to play the HFF like Ben cousins does, he needs to work from the HFF all the way down to defence, like an extra midfielder. He will need to be a link player from defence to attack either leading up to the ball like miller or running behind the ball. He will be the most important player in setting the whole game plan up, he will have to run himself into the ground and almost be everywhere, but he can do it. He's our best player and the fittest at the club. Flash will roam around the top of the 50 and get front and centre to the 3 forwards or if miller/bruce has the ball on the HBF he can lead up to be the next option.

Speed is almost the essential ingredient, unlike rnd 1, we have to move the ball quickly from defence to attack so that we can keep the forward line open for our small leading forwards. Almost everyone from the centreline back has to attack , run and carry the ball. For this to work effectively, playing on at all costs and taking risks must be the message, ward and belly have good run and dash and will be very important players. Belly should be used in a very attacking role rather than playing on the small forward.

In terms of changes, Jamar must go as he will not get near sandilands in the ruck and is useless around the ground. PJ can give whitey a brief chopout and is alot more agile around the ground and versitile giving us an option up forward and can go back in extreme circumstances (today).

Beamer has a groin

Browny may be a bit stiff, although is our third small back and is slow.

Godfrey is a run with player, but does he actually tag any1?, Bartel had 35 today? will be sacrificed for the game were going to play.

Its time to give a young bloke a go and see if he can cut it, watching the 3 collingwood boys run around on friday night showed us that we are lacking a bit of youthful exuberance. pettard has played well for sandy and it would be great to see him thrown in at the deepend.

Only 1 of pickett and sylvia cos we cant afford to carry underdone blokes playing this game plan.

CJ is the perfect type for this gameplan

Its about time bizz had a go, so many times he has done a great job in defence, without rivers we are a bit rudderless, hopefully he can do what he has done for us before.

I really hope danners goes out and trys to win using what we've got, and doesnt resort to terry wallace vs the crows last yr. This is just an idea, tear it to shreds if u see fit!!!!!!!!

you have got to be kidding...moloney out??? he is one of the only ones willing to break tackles, run the lines, and most importantly KICK LONG!!!!! no happy handball. gee we missed him last year, for the clearances. anyway, i'd like to see petterd come in, and your right in dropping jamar and brown.

So what's it going to be 10 goals from Pavlich while Miller kicks 0.2 again?

That's a sacrifice I would make.

It's not just about kicking goals, it's about presenting and giving us a target up forward.

Otherwise our players will have even less options to kick to.

However, if Dunn is fit and selected, than yes it would be an option.

But we need a marking target up forward regardless.

In a perfect world, Rivers plays next week and dominates Pavlich, while Miller, Green and Dunn dominate up forward.... *nods off to la la land*

24 hours ago I would have said yes, but after today's effort I would say no. Unfortunately, you can tell that the confidence of the players is getting lower the longer it taking to win a game. I just hope Freo are a little sore after the derby, then a close game is on the cards.

Beat freo ?? hmmm !!

Freo have at least been reasoanbly competitive and looked like being in the mix.

They have far more fit cattle than we do ( well...who doesnt ) and thats cant bode well.

The only thing going for us will be its at the G....but anyone who doesnt allow for Tarrant at this ground does so at their own peril, he loves this place and the purple mob have been waiting for him to turn it on.

Im afraid it could get a bit ugly.

A Bulldogs-style game is out of the question because it requires that two-thirds of the side are close to 3-second 20m runners and are capable of 30-40m pin-point passes. The Dees are sadly-lacking in this type of player and this is why the run-and-carry just does not work.

Both teams up against it you've got to look pros & cons

Pros:

At the G.

Tarrant is a muppet.

If it was a street fight I think we would win (even without Brock & Byron).

The Biz will surely be back.

Des will be suspended.

Holland will be added to the injury list.

Cons:

Freo has more talent.

Freo has less injuries.

Pavlich.

Maloney injured??

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
