POSTGAME: Practice Match vs North Melbourne

Featured Replies

My take on the Salem injury...the camera work is not great but after having a few looks on the Kayo replay (and this is what i thought live), the North player came in low to smother and took him somewhere around the shin area. Salem was kicking the ball and in the action came over the top of the North player.

So, he might have a bruised shin or if any knee damage likely to be bruising there. There didn't appear to be any twisting or the knee, could also be an upper ankle type problem. Lets hope it's just a little bruising...please.

By far the best thing to come out of today was Tomlinson playing, not getting injured and looking good.

The result means little against the bottom side but always good to win

So after 45 years of yelling out "Just kick it", the team has finally taken heed. But I agree with you. In times gone past it was considered taboo to kick it long to a contest. The gurus would tell us that you had to keep possession at all costs. Thankfully that seems to be a thing of the past.

Haha yeah I don’t have to say that anymore. But it’s not just about kicking long it’s hard to quantify: this team just seems so good at driving the ball forward they are a perpetual motion machine, it overwhelms the opposition you can see them cracking under the strain of it.

I think this is the most excited I have ever been about a practice match.

So good to have footy back and a killer team.

Bowey is a footballing savant, he'll be fine

I'd suggest that even more talented/natural players than Bowey have suffered from the second year blues. He struggled at times today. Uncharacteristic fumbles and skill errors. I thought he was probably trying a bit too hard to be perfect and didn't have his rhythm. But the backline as a whole were super so it's not the end of the world. If May, Hibbo and Salem are all good to go there will be fierce competition for the last couple of defensive spots which is a good thing.

I don't see it in Chandler to be honest. Haven't from the start and today's game didn't change that opinion. I too would like to see Bedford given a full game next week.

I thought Smith did a great job shutting down Zuharr or however you spell it.

Bowey was a bit sloppy and wasteful, but we forget that he's only 19 years of age and has played 7 games. Just clearing the rust.

Bowey will always be rusty, poor bloke.

I was confused about the pineapple reference there for a minute.😁

I know a 20s a lobster.

Is a100 a watermelon ?

Worth a punt for sure.

I will put a pineapple on that too.

It’s the least I can do

The good part of it looks like most of the force went through his kicking leg, which certainly could get knocked around and sore, but his weight was all on the other leg. That kind of force through a planted leg could be very dangerous.

If Bbb and Tmac keep playing like today, its gonna be tough for Sam W. Tmac was moving nicely again.

Most places get very grumpy if you produce a Mawson from the Wallet

Yep, probably some kind of jarring through the kicking leg.

As you say, lucky it wasn't the planted leg,

Too big to counter. It’s not exactly a textbook run and jump but his go go gadget arms can’t be stopped at times.

Wasn’t much of a walk, and I don’t think the medical team were just sitting him down due to time. He’ll be lucky if he’s avoided a serious injury.

Channel 7 reporting he's avoided injury.

Hopefully the club gives us an update on Salem and May.
I trust channel 7 reporting as much as I trust Putin.

Edit: May playing cricket tonight on his Insta with the rest of the players. I assume he’s not too badly hurt then 😂

The year is 2072. Jake Bowey is at a gentleman's club smoking a cigar.

I gave him votes today.

he was very confident and used his athleticism and pace cleverly, and for the most part, productively

Thanks and good luck to him.

If you're a bloke, they'll call the cops on you (assuming I am reading you correctly).

Big difference is we are unusually coming off as Premiers ( by a margin) and a sensational 2021 possibly our best team performance in 125 years. Plus plenty of our first choice we're not available and we ( despite your assertion wrongly) that we win practice matches by this large margin frequently it's not the normal result.

I agree it's best not to carry on as if practice matches are absolute evidence of a bumper year again but it's hard not  to be convinced with our talent youth and potential depth that we are ( given no injuries to Clarry or Trac) in for another high quality season by a rapidly developing group of very determined athletes with ultimate success foremost in their minds.

The benefit of thrashing north means media will he looking elsewhere for a story this week. If it was close you'd have the Hun predicting flash in the pan stuff. Etc. Dees taking it easy then arrogance  etc.

Now we've just further frightenef the competition  . With J Viney to come back too.

Bloody good to have footy back.

Yeah we were a bit rusty but it was nice not to be at the top of our game and still smash the Joeys.

Remember it’s the FIRST practice game of the year after winning the premiership after 150 year drought and we still look fit and hungry.

GO DEES.

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
