Looks like he will miss a decent chunk of the season, unlucky for the young fella.

Very disappointing news about Blake Howes' injury.

He is only in his first year though. So luckily he has time on his side.

Hopefully, he can still bulk up muscle in his arms and upper body while allowing his stress fracture in his foot to heal? However, I am sure Selwyn Griffith will sort out a plan for Blake Howes.

I wish the young fella all the best and a speedy recovery.

I wonder if the injury to Howes is enough for him to be put him on the long term injury list?

There’s talk of a few young talented players emerging in the ranks who could be worth looking at in the mid season draft. We would probably have the last pick but it might be worthwhile exploring whether there’s a player out there to fit our needs eg. a genuine young ruck prospect to nurture for the day when Max retires or if Luke Jackson gets homesick.

The article says … “Melbourne expecting Howes to be sidelined for at least two months as he recovers”.

Two months would not likely amount to a long term injury so the club would have to wait some time before making an assessment.

Mmnn, the dreaded navicular injury. That's Howes done for the year. Will need a good six months recovery.

Horrible luck for the young fella. Definitely showed a bit in the pre-season and VFL.

Poor fella. Navicular stress factures can be life-long injuries ala Viney, James Hird and also career ending like Trengrove. Its not the injury you want at any age let alone at the start of your AFL career.

Lets hope that he is properly rested, allowing the injury to properly heal. I wonder whether research has uncovered any new treatment and prevention measures given the prominence of this type of injury in all forms of sport.

Some bad news incoming on Hibbo unfortunately

He played a great game last Anzac round.

At least we have plenty of defenders in the mix to cover our injuries.

Off topic, depending on how Weid fares this year we may be looking for a proven big forward at the end of the year. Tmac was great for half a season last year but is very inconsistent. With Jackson spending more time on the ball we really now only have Bbb as a reliable tall.

Devastated about the Howes injury, was loving seeing him in training. Really hope they take all the precautions and get him cherry ripe for pre season.

Given the length of time out does the ETA on Salem allow for effectively putting in some sort of mini pre-season post full recovery?

Casey will be very strong this week against the Box Hill Hawks with T Mac, Tomlinson,Bedford, Dunstan and Hibberd

I reckon.
Maybe we’ll aim for him to play first game post bye. Have a couple of weeks hard training and a game and Casey abs come in firing

Not sure about that... i've had some absolute ****ful days out there copping and giving it back to some of the numbskull Dawk supporters.  Other times have been good days but bit of a coin flip depending on which numb nutz are about.

If i go i'll probably bring my earphones for some more intelligent radio commentary

The venue itself is a great place to watch a match, the crowd is a different story, but this time you get to be the smug premiership winning wnker supporter, how good.

Given the health of our list and winning form he’ll be the proverbial cherry ripe come game time. Whatever is needed, he’ll get. Loading on damaged/filled joint surfaces has to be done with progressive care, otherwise the surface starts to degrade irreparably…..Clint Bartram’s early career end being an example.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
