I think we did well out of this? We weren’t using picks 44 or 67. Sure we would have been pushing for norths second but that would essentially be 3 first rounders which is way overs.
Let’s hope freo get ahead of them selves and pull a Melbourne 2019 season.

I thought we'd get the 2 1st rounders, so the F2 was a bonus.

His manager just said on trade radio:

'If Melbourne was a footy club in Perth then he would have stayed'.

Also was asked if there is an issue with retention manager said:

'Covid was an issue, borders closed, couldnt go back much, he didnt get a huge grounding in Melbourne as they were away for all of 2020 and part of 21'

Will be real interesting to see how he goes without Gawns support and mentoring.

Pressure will be immense to perform and no doubt the Freo ferrals will let him know if he ain’t going well.

Will be interesting to see how he goes against Gawn and Grundy

Personally I bear no ill will towards the kid. I hope the move works out for him but he’s gone from an understudy at the dees where he could ply his trade away from the spotlight to the fishbowl of Perth where the expectations will be high. No guarantee he’ll succeed

We’re smack in our window with our core signed up. I’m only interested in how we use our picks to improve the team. We’ll have new players to occupy ourselves with. LJ will fade in the memory soon enough.

Not players fault it’s both AFL and players association fault wanting 2 forms of free agency for freedom of player movement but also want a competition with with equalisation

You can’t have Both!

Sean Darcy was a great ruck from very early on because of Sandilands, who I think is still their ruck coach

Jason Taylor adamantly said in a recent interview he refuses to let the ‘go home factor’ influence his decision to draft an interstate player.

So he pretty much knew start of year is what I’m hearing from the BS interview from his manager.

List managers would have thought they’d convince him to stay or get better than Cerra in return.

I think it has to now come unto consideration.

Reckon the deal is pretty fair for the player that he is and will be. Don't think that Luke Jackson was moving the needle upward for us much this last year, so we move on and look for someone new.

WA is in danger of becoming a state where only their absolute elite junior talent end up in the AFL. Surely Vic teams will start to become hesitant to take these guys on.

Bit concerning to think that if JVR for example just explodes and becomes a star, he's probably just going to want out and back to WA. Best case scenario for Vic teams with these guys is that they be solid bottom 6 guys so they might not get lured back to WA.

Good point D and I’m sure Gawn will have a bit of extra motivation.

I agree. It’s hard to believe that as the National competition gets older, this is becoming an even bigger factor.

Very happy with this trade,2 firsts and a second for a player that hasn't played a good game since the GF,Peter Bell-WE WON!!!

Our Premiership window is open for at least 3-4 years, who's the better ruckman in that time period? Brodie Grundy by a mile.

Freo can't win the flag in the next 5 years,800k+,what a waste!!!

Right now and probably for the next 2-3 seasons, Gawn and Grundy will rule but following that the Darcy , LJ combo will be supreme.

Hearing how LJ will be used in a hybrid role and not pigeonholed  as a ruck maybe true but then again it has Jeremy Howes feel to it.

The club probably knew at the same time, which is why Clarry and Gus were signed to long term deals.

As soon as Gus signed long term I knew we had lost him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
