Oh well, if Fremantle aren't going to give us a fair deal we will simply go with what West Coast can offer.

As mischievous as it sounds I would love Todd Viney to cheekily say on trade radio that North Melbourne would gladly take Luke Jackson as pick 1# in the Pre-Season Draft if neither West Coast or Fremantle can work out a deal with Melbourne.

That will definitely upset them both and mean they will actually have to show "good faith" towards Melbourne. Anyway, the countdown clock is ticking....

He doesn’t have to say it, everyone knows it. North would take him and even if he refused to play, they could trade him the next year and would  get likely more than we are being offered atm. LJ wouldn’t want that and so if we can’t do a deal he probably stays for another season and tries again the next year when Bell has left.

This may be what makes Freo blink.

There is no way North would take Jackson in the PSD.

It would be a nonsensical list management decision on every level not to take him.

Why not? At worst they are getting future picks. It’s a smart play. If he puts a ridiculous figure on his head, North complain about draft tampering and the AFL would bend over for them, given their situation,  with a new North rule. It would be a way to give them picks, but not as priority picks.  He goes on their list and if he stays in WA, they simply trade him the next year. If they don’t,  he is an Eagle.

And I pick up a cool $5Billion (in cash) if he ends up there (North)

Got to take the early odds!

But Eagles would.  They would move heaven and earth to create the cap space by renegotiating contracts in the months between trade and psd.

If Freo put a first year contract of $1.5 price on his head they would have to do the same thing to create the cap space.

So it is so so stupid for Freo to even think of the PSD let alone put it on the negotiating table.  Embarrassing that any club would do that if they thought it through.  Well maybe they didn't think it through.

Sure LJ to the PSD:  Great way for Freo to strength their arch enemy's list!!  Laughable.

Correct and we know he won’t want to come back and play at North, so it’s a free go at picks by them, in a trade the next year.

He would be furious with Freo, as would his manager and other players and managers would be very concerned about committing to Freo.

Even if they are not interested I dont see why WC dont try to do Freos head in a bit, surely if NicNak rang Dogga and said how abut a coffee in some suitably public place that might melt down the media and Bell.

This is really becoming an sideshow and one that we are not going to get a great prize in. Time we all got our heads around, pick 13 and future First. There is no other way that this can happen. He isnt going to the Eagles.

We are about to be shafted.

I can't believe people are still worried about the PSD.

It's astonishing.

We are not worried about the PSD, we are just discussing why the deal will go through eventually.

I now think we will get North F2 as well as 13 and Freo F1 and have to accept it.

the deal will happen simply because little man Peter Bell won't be able to handle the dent to his ego that missing out on Luke Jackson would leave. the final hour of trade week he'll scramble a better offer together.

I'm going to put this out there.

Let him go to the PSD, walk away from trade negotiations, two reasons. 1. Freo will panic and offer more, they're desperate to get him

2. the consideration in this is Freo is a premiership rival, we should only do this trade if the return makes us better as well, 13 and pick 18 are okay, but we make Freo significantly better without significantly improving ourselves, our commitment is to get him to W.A so let the Eagles have him, let Freos trading out of players be for nothing and keep a rival down.

Freo with Jackson are going to be a top 4 team next year IMO

The posturing alone while there is still time will send a message.

This is where I was annoyed with LJ - he could have waited a few more weeks before he started to hang out with Freo players.

The problem i see is that they cant offer much more, they simply dont have the picks and cant seem to find a team to trade with to get into the top 10. Id start looking at Players in this now. And id enquire about Liam Henry or Josh Treacy?

Which will be fine with me.

Means we have two first rounders going into next year and an almost guaranteed start of second round pick to play with at the 2023 draft which is meant to be a ripper.

Perhaps our plan is an all out assault at top end picks for next year's draft which I'd be fine with given the talent available. I'd do anything to be in with a shot at Zane Duursma next year.

If we can land Grundy, Lachie Hunter and pick 13 for this year and we go into next year having two first rounders and an almost guaranteed pick 19/20 (pre slide) we'd be laughing.

We're still in contention next year and then we have a really powerful hand going into next year's bumper draft.

Yep, I'm leaning to the player route as well. I just can't see them doing anything pick wise.

For sure. i'd happily put on the table picks 13, Future first, future second from North and Josh Treacy or Liam Henry, if they can't stump up more significant picks.

But i wouldn't be doing the deal as it stands, Freo need to up the offer

I don't think they've tried.  No chat anywhere, not even the WA media of them trying.

They wanted two players from GCS.  They could still deal for pick 5 to come from Adelaide as part of thsoe trades.  But have already done one of the deals with GCS.  Won't do the Lobb deal with Bulldogs.  Won't do the Meeks deal with Hawks.

They won't make any effort to improve their hand even tho the options have been and are there.

I just don't know why they didn't get the Lobb deal done in the first few days, I know it's not an easy one to figure but much easier than this one. Why leave all your schoolwork and exam study to the last minute before the test?

Just been reported on Trade Radio that Freo want a pick between 15-22 for Lobb. They are waiting for the Dunkley deal to be done first.

Well, to be fair to Brisbane, they did offer a first rounder and the Bulldogs knocked it back.

They wanted 30 + 39 back - it was a total rip off. Then they traded the 1st away! Brisbane far worse than Freo.

Dunkley is the domino. Much like Lachie Neale in 2018. Why does it always have to be Brisbane!

Because they know anything they get from that deal will go straight to us. And also bc dogs only offered 30 for him so they'd rather keep him another year.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
