His mum's message on Facebook is very sweet, although it does pretty much confirm that his head hasn't been in it all year.

I must have a wooden heart. I saw minimal sweetness, and maximum “mummy got what she wanted, the rest of you can get stuffed”

Ahhh no, there was not much evidence of Max being able to create 3-4 centre clearance generated goals within a couple of minutes

Did you happen to notice his game against Geelong two weeks earlier? I think we are getting a little starstruck about Jackson’s game in the GF. That 3rd quarter burst was mostly due to Trac, Clarrie and JV

Dont know that is true.

I think people are claiming this because his form has dropped off, but moreso from a sense of rejection, that he doesn't want to be a Demon for life. It's worth remembering that Dogga has carried a significant knee problem since about mid season, apparently requiring surgery.

Players can have feelings of home sickness and focus on their job at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive.

what was actually in the message?

In fairness, it was a nice respectful message supporting her son, and thanking the club, supporters and everyone. Was on Facebook, or a few pages back in this thread.

I am just a little bitter. As I said, if she gave us a few days grace, am sure we would have handled the message better

She pretty much said she's proud of her son, MFC will always hold a special place to them, they're excited he's coming home and wished the club, players and supporters all the best.

Apparently this makes her a controlling hag who is destroying his life and has it in for the Melbourne Football Club... At least, that's what some of Demonland is saying.

As I recall Scully carried a knee injury for most of the season before he took off which healed quite nicely in the Sydney weather. Made sure it was bandaged so everyone could see. Not saying Jackson faked it but the thought of aggravating it may have played on his mind with a future big ticket return to Perth planned.

He also carried another much harder injury to fix, the hole in his soul.

Yeah, nah

Now we are speculating what players think???

I reckon Dogga gave his all this year, I doubt his teamates would've let him get away with anything less than that. They'd 100% know if he wasn't focussed come game time

Btw, there's no comparison between HWSNBN and Dogga. No need to list the reasons why, its obvious. Any comparison is almost offensive to Dogga and what he's achieved

I think Melissa would have been wise to leave any messaging until the heat had gone out of the announcement.

I think its best now that she doesn't comment any further to save herself from any more scrutiny on the matter.

We've just been knock out of the Finals fans are still on edge about the way everything has panned out this year.

I understand she is trying to support her son yes but someone should be advising her about not commenting through social media.

Absolutely unesseccary commentary from her best advice to her would be to zip your lip from here on in and save yourself from the backlash.

So who did we effectively trade pick 17 to, Nev?

It’s Trav, not Nev 🙃

We traded our future first (2022) for a first round pick in the 2021 draft, which we then used to draft Jacob Van Rooyen. Our first round pick in this draft now sits with Sydney. So we essentially traded 14 this year for 17 least year, got a player in with an extra year of development. Decent enough trade, but means we have no current picks until our second round pick at 32.

Those last 3 goals in the third quarter were all down to Jack Viney not Jackson

Probably would've been better if she let her son do the talking and not add so quickly and publicly to the situation, regardless of how grateful she is.

Although I’m disappointed he’s leaving, I’ve had the opinion all year that it was a win/win scenario for Melbourne. If he were to stay then we have a potentially generational talent to build around, but now that he’s leaving we should expect to get a decent haul in return.
However speculative draft picks may be, I’m confident that we have the culture and the ability to develop the talent we bring in.
People can say what they want but I’m excited about the possibility of retooling a premiership calibre team and injecting some fresh blood - something that clearly wasn’t done enough this year.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

The Demons almost blew a six goal lead and ultimately hung on to win by three points over the North Melbourne Kangaroos at the MCG and have temporarily jumped back into the Top 8.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
