You’re clearly younger than most. I seriously doubt I’d be here in 57 years

Ha, well I was being a BIT optimistic!

I have it on good authority that Goody knew after Clarry kicked that last goal in the third we had it and his biggest problem was not letting the players know that at the break. He was unsure how to address them but whatever he said worked and they came out and finished the job.

Goody knew in February down at Sorrento.

yeah that was good video, but it's hard to tell exactly when it passed the goal line as max kicked it well above the goal post.

i'd say it's inconclusive as it's possible it was directly above the goal post at the time it passed the goal line, which would make it a poster.

so to me it was either a virtual poster or a goal depending on exact time it passed the goal line which i couldn't be 100% certain of.....if that makes sense

From my position in that pocket with the ball coming toward me, it looked like it was over the top of the post, even marginally behind it!

thanks, my grandson saw the same video taken by a spectator directly behind the goals and he agrees with you

i'm in the inconclusive camp, but i have no problem with the goal umpires decision

probably should have been a review but with the video available to the reviewers would probably have resulted in "umpire's decision" anyway

I have not posted really at all since The Win. I have re watched the game more than a few times and I am astounded at the quality of play that was achieved by individual players and by the team as a whole.

According to the AFL player stats for the game the bottom 6 players for the Demons were, from the sixth lowest to the lowest, McDonald, who scored a couple of goals, Rivers, who had a strong defensive game and attacked when the chance presented, Spargo, a goal and a good forward 50 defensive game, Petty strong defense with a 6 disposal game for 95% TOG, Hibberd, who played an excellent defensive game and Pickett, whose pressure in the forward 50 lead to goals.

For a bottom six that is as strong as it gets and was one of the critical reasons why we won and won so well.

Add to that Tom Sparrow who was just above Tom McDonald and you get a clear idea of the level of play we achieved across the team. I rate Sparrow very highly and believe he will mature into a top class mid for us.

Excuse me I have to go off and have a look at the replay of our most recent premiership.

It would be great if they could find the lost 1964 footage to go with it. A friend who I used to go to the footy with thought it was a conspiracy from the AFL. They really had the footage and were withholding it so we wouldn’t have any place to watch a premiership, so we’d be starved for a premiership, making us an even more prime target for merger. He also claimed that the media was against us in 2000, because the AFL was still pushing us as an ideal merger/relocater team. I wonder what he thinks now 🤔

To keep this thread going I would like to add that this flag has big implications regarding membership. Obviously current ones will sign up again but lapsed members will jump back on.

Also winning flags is the best member/ new supporters drive possible. Win a couple and I reckon our ranks will swell with new young barrickers. Would love to see the club have bigger crowds and attract more airtime and money.

Our grand final replays on fox footy are being hijacked by them showing a day full of essendon games then there stupid doco. You'd think they are the only club that are going to celebrate there 150th year.

The club has been doing a nicely spread out series of 'All The Calls' of some key plays. Makes you focus very pleasantly on stuff you missed in the 'All The Calls' of the whole game.

I like 6PR's "Sparrow has taken flight from 50!"

My favorite part about that goal is the hand symbol (which i assume is what you are referring to here?) Captain jack makes as he is being swamped.

I think that is their symbol for blitz mode.

'Twas indeed, Binman!🙂

Been meaning to ask: has anyone seen any vision of Petracca's dribble goal from behind the goals relative to where he kicks from? (like the vision used to debate Gawn's non/goal)

I'd love to watch Christian's eyes and see the look/s on his face, as he bursts, assesses and releases.

And this from the ABC, upon Oliver's dagger: 'Oh, and the Demons; they're seeing what Paradise must look like!'

That Kozzie spoil - to enable the split-second Petracca decision to line-'em up - was just fantastic teamwork providing the Trac possession to be converted into 6 lovely points. He got the bloke square-on, obviously sick to death of this Doggy's attempts to hurt Demon players right across the match after being beaten in marks, handballs and front positions. Farnknuckling by Kozzie, at its best.

Pretty sure that was Dunkley who you might recall Kozzie pole-axed in the first quarter a well

Yep, thought it was Dunkley, the pizzent. Well done, Kozzie, so quick, so effective, so very necessary, so justified. Thanks for confirming that, jnrmac.

With everything that's happening in the world, I'm really looking forward to 2022.

When we can start the year as Reigning Premiers.

And Petty also was nearly strangled and no free kick. But basically, I thought umpires were OK.

On that point, the GF umpiring was quite obviously not what the Doggies expected; in saying that, what I mean is that the abundance of questionable frees they usually receive at questionable times on the ground, at questionable locations of the field - particularly in front of goal and at those moments of games when they have been slipping behind their opposition without much hope - nearly all diminished, gone and remained unpaid. The staging efforts were there across the GF, with the result that such staging '...wore them out..' - they would have been better served by actually winning the ball more effectively, more often, not reliant on actors' equity to get them across the line.

A question.

Our first goal, tracc's 60 metre bullet of NO steps.

I can't for the life of me work out if he marked that ball or got in the half volley.

To the naked eye, and even on replay, he marks it. At least to my doddgy eyes.

If he marked it, remarkable that he chose to immediately play on and go for goal, given the distance, the fact he didn't have any run up and also had to kick over a dogs players (well around him sort of).

He didn't give the umpire any chance to blow the whistle to indicate mark, such was the speed he got it to boot.

But i have read suggestions it was a half volley. If so, incredible presence of mind to immediately kick it.

Either way, a truly remarkable goal that has sot of been lost in the tidal wave of crazy good goals in the third and last quarter.

Mark or half volley?

Usually I hate the long wait for the next season to begin. But this year it’s different. I don’t mind the wait; gives us more time to relish our wonderful Premiership. ❤️💙💕❤️💙

Half mark @binman?

Agree. Remarkable.

Thanks for the stats on the bottom 6.  No real surprises except for Rivers and Sparrow.  Amazing how you can play a great game and not get much of it.

Apologies, good sir, but it's yet another gift of this amazing team/year that we can make cheeky confident upgrades to others' posts.

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
