I'm glad Sydney matched our bid on Callum Mills. Take about sliding doors

The second best player I have seen in my lifetime goes something like this

1 Robert Flower

2 Clayton Oliver

3 David Schwarz

I reckon you'd have a tough job separating our best three at the moment, who have one hell of a supporting cast.

Don't disagree with one (though I only saw the end of his career), but Allen Jakovich was probably the most incredible individual talent I've seen in my time. The Wiz and Neitz were pretty handy too...

The 3 best I've seen in Red and Blue or any other colours.

Wayne Carey is the only addition I can think of.

Still criminally underrated by oppo supporters. “He gets a lot of it but doesn’t hurt you”. GAGF. He’s the best in the business at the moment. That game against Adelaide was the best game I’ve ever seen anyone play. Generational talent. Hope he tears the bulldogs a new one next weekend.

Clayton is the best player in the league! His absolute want to win every contest separates him. Best I’ve seen in the red and blue.

Good luck tonight Clarry!

That first game against GWS, the G was echoing with “Crikey, Jordie McKenzie’s really improved over preseason!”

He has shortened considerably for tonight on Ladbrokes. 3.25 v Wines at 3.75 and Bont at 4.50. Gawn seems criminally long at 151. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gawn poll well - he is often quite noticeable to umps you’d think.

I remember all the info about him having to lose weight, and I also remember that Roos basically wanted him at our first selection. Astonishing pick at no. 4 and he has been a true asset since debut.

Looking back at the A+ players the Dees have produced; the likes of Hardeman, Alves, Wells, Flower, Moore, Lyon, Schwartz, Farmer, Yze, come to mind. A few others could also be considered as A graders (Neitz, Jones, Tingay, Jakovich etc...).  I find it astonishing that I rate Oliver so highly. But I agree with others above - he is the best midfielder I have seen at the Dees.

I love his pace. He sprints around, sweeps through stoppages on the run, bursts out of congestion at full pace, hits a tackle at speed.

Unfortunately, until this year, I think what they were saying was true. He was our very own Tom Mitchell. Racking up big numbers and doing some amazing things with his hands but really not damaging the opposition that much. It started really improving last year, when he began taking a few extra steps before disposing of it, an earlier poster mentioned the reported conversation with Burgo.

This year he has taken it to a whole new level, his kicking has been a huge part of it but also the decisions he makes are just so much more team oriented. The midfield is so much more of a unit now than it was, they really seem to know where each other is going to be and they trust each other so much more.

Clarry is an absolute star, and yes, he started from a high base but there has definitely been a slow burn culminating in what we are seeing this year.

He played on Callan Ward for 58% game time, 22 possessions and took a great contested mark on Ward on the wing. You could tell he was a special player then.

Matthew Lloyd AKA ( The Velvet Sledgehammer) has named him as the BEST PLAYER OF 2021

You just have to agree, look at his numbers... Just Phenomenal! He is like the BORG, DALEKS, CYBERMEN AND SUPERMAN all rolled into one!  just cannot be stopped!

So Roosy actually did immediately want to draft him based off his highlights vid. I always thought that rumor was a bit far fetched.

That's why he is a genius.

No he has always hurt the opposition, he is just killing them now

Reckon they think he's a bit of a [censored]. Which he may be to the opposition.

But he's our [censored]

Don’t get me started on that glorified popularity contest.

The palyers don't select the teams.

Coaches do. Case rested.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
