joeboy 3,193 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Hopefully I’m not wasting space by repeating a spooky fact, but: It’s 57 years since our last premiership. Norm Smith died at the age of 57. Coincidence? Is the curse meant to be broken this year? 1 Quote
La Dee-vina Comedia 17,137 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Add to the coincidences, in the movie Contagion, Vaccine #57 successfully protects the lab monkey from infection. (That's about the only fact I understand from the Wikipedia entry for the number 57.) 2 2 1 Quote

Supreme_Demon 4,141 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 (edited) 57 years represents how much pain, humiliation, misery, suffering and disappointment we as Melbourne members and supporters have had to endure. Basically a life time of frustration. We nearly got merged out of existence in 1996. We also nearly became bankrupt a few times. I am sure we all remember Jimmy Stynes' "Debt Demolition" campaign. Then there was the embarrassment of the "tanking" allegations. If we weren't called the Melbourne Football Club and the oldest Football Club (established in 1858) we would probably not have had the resilience and the luck to still be around. We all want Norm Smith's curse to be lifted and for our Premiership drought to finish. Please hope that the drought finally ends in a flood of tears of joy. It is about time that the fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club change for the better. 1964 was many decades ago and fresh Premiership success is well overdue. It is time for this new batch of Demons players in 2021 to write their own history. GO DEMONS!!! Edited September 15, 2021 by Supreme_Demon 3 Quote
Bobby McKenzie 2,408 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 My car plates read 57 MFC. Chose that number to represent our hat trick of premierships 55,56 and 57. Lets hope it signals our 2021 Premiership after 57 barren years. 4 1 Quote
Demonstone 23,573 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 It is well known that number 57 is indeed relevant to MFC. Sauce? 1 3 Quote

Skuit 10,031 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Of players originally drafted at pick 57 to play in grand finals, 75 percent have won.* Step on down Jayden. *This factoid might not be entirely accurate. Quote
jamarkmywords 28 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 QTR1: Jack Viney (#7) wins the first centre clearance, hits a leading Ben Brown (#50) straight in front. BBB commences his run up from 7m beyond the 50m arc. Lopes in and his first goal sails through post-high with 19:03 remaining on the clock. QTR4: Bailey Fristch slots goal number 4, taking his tally to 57 for the year. As the dees blow the margin out to 57 points with 0:57 remaining on the clock. 🙏🙏 1 Quote
