I can think of maybe 5 players.

6. Brad Miller - couldn't have been more surprised. Presented well and even more shockingly, finished well. Dropped a few sitters, but todays game was a good sign for Brad.

5. Cam Bruce - only leader out there who looked interested. Got alot of contested ball, and while his kicking is still a worry, at least he had the football nous to get the bloody thing.

4. Nathan Brown - I don't think Doggy should be in our best 22, but he tried hard all day. Disposal is sub-standard, but runs all day.

3. Simon Godfrey - See Brown's description.

2. Brent Moloney - For someone who didn't play last year at all, his first two games have been very good. Love his attitude, but in saying that, he needs to learn to tackle more efficiently.

1. Jared Rivers - good comeback game, held Franklin pretty well and rebounded well from defence.

Minus points to the rest of them.

6. Brad Miller - his best game in the ed and blue for quite some time. 17 possies, 8 marks and 3 goals (even one from about 48 out). a couple of fumbles but he was trying. he didnt look to handball first opportunity.

5. Simon Godfrey - the standout midfielder, even though his kicking is not up to the standard. he tried all day, racked up 19 disposals and kicked 2 goals 1 behind. for someone who cant kick a set shot to save his life he found himself in the right position in the forward line an aweful lot. i cant help but think that if he could kick he would be one of our best every week.

4. Nathan Brown - got the pill more than most and tried to take on the lines. tried to be creative and push as forward, rather than go sideways. like godfrey, his disposal isnt top notch but on a day like today that is forgiven when you realise that he got more of the pill and tried harder than his 'elite' teammates'.

3. Cameron Bruce - didnt have the greatest game and his kicking stinks. but then so do the above players and he did get 29 touches and 10 marks. was he best on ground? no. was he thrown around like a spare parts player? yes. found himself in the midfield, in defence and in the forward line at the coaches whim trying to plug holes. he should be one of our chief play makers, and he cant do that in either of the 50's.

2. nathan jones - for a kid he worked hard. 17 disposals shows he went all day. disposal wasnt great when under pressure but in only his 10 match was one of the few players trying to win the hard ball. his 9 tackles (team high) demonstrated his endeavor to win the footy, even if it didnt fall to him first. needs a senior player to stand tall along side him, he is not yet ready to be our number 1 ball winner.

1. Brent Maloney - brent just went today. but he picked up 16 disposals and kicked 2 goals. he didnt stuff too much up and thats what got him the nod ahead of matthew bate (18 possies and 1 goal). brent has a lot of upside. he runs hard, kicks long and doesnt shirk the contest when trying to win the hard ball.

coulda-beens: james mcdonald. i didnt notice him. yes he was out there but i really didnt see him pick up his 30 possessions. anyone like to comment on whether he deserved a spot?

matthew bate. the kid made too many mistakes to get votes but did some nice things, kicked a good goal and had 18 touches. on a day we played badly he only misses out because he dropped that mark in the goal square.

daniel ward. runs hard, tried to break the lines, tried to create. didnt do enough with it.

jarred rivers and nathan carrol. its hard to give votes to bckmen when the opposition kicks more than us. they worked and probably broke even. not a spectacular game from either, but both servicable. had we won might have been a different story.

Millsy gets the 6 for me.

Jamar was very useful, took some good marsk and could have been more damaging HAD the ball been delivered to him in a better manner. (bombing away into the 50m arch is not the way to give your forwards the best chance at taking a mark!)

Bell deserves votes.

Nullified Dixon, then went on to shut down a red-hot Williams. He also showed good pace and composure with his disposal.

Made one stupid mistake, giving away the 50m penalty, but overall was our best defender along with Rivers.

Small comfort, having two of our more maligned players play good games.

I voluntereed to vote this week so I may as well provide my 2 cents worth:

6) Miller - One of the best games of his career. 3 important goals

5) Bruce - Was a force when we were up and about. At the moment he is our most quality player...and thats not a great sign considering he shanks every second kick.

4) McDonald - Whoever gets 30 touches and 6 tackles in a game deserves votes.

3) Godfrey - Tried his heart out all game, showed committment and kicked 2 goals. Got better as the game wore on and deserves a game next week.

2) Brown - 26 touches and 9 marks. Deserves a consolation vote or 2. At least shows heart.

1) Moloney - In and out of the game but did play a part in our comeback.

GOD DAMN IT!!!!!

I always miss this thread. It must have come up in the last 20 minutes and already there's 6 lists here, which means mine won't count!!!!

Sigh...

For what it's worth...

6: McDonald. 30 touches and was in there all day. How is it the quality of his performances never waver? Probably leading our B&F count already.

5: Bruce. Was MFC BOG if not for a few butchered kicks.

4: Miller. Strong game, but far from dominant. Even took possession of the kicks that landed at his toes on the half-volley. On a day when we were down one KP forward, he did his job. Franklin < Miller on the day which is saying something.

3: Rivers. Stopped the dangerous Franklin all on his own. When he had a breather in teh second Franklin caught fire. Has to get him every match for the next ten years. This rivalry will be a ripper to watch.

2: Bell. Stopped Dixon, then went to Williams when the master of the backline was having a shocker. He's going to be important for us this year, win lose or draw... well probably lose.

1: Godfrey. Was just about a forward option. Could easily have finished with 4 goals :o How does that happen? Can't help but take your hat off to a guy that was nowhere near our best 22.

dutchy layed a good enough game in round 1 to be rated the 3rd best player for the demons in the average of two games but he was dropped after round 1.

due to match ups i dont mind. good to see him back this week, but i hope he wouldve been picked, even if rivers was fit...

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
