For me itโ€™s as simple as both teams have great system driven game plans, Dogs have some genuine gun players, we have genuine guns on every line. If we come to play we should get the win.

It's grand-final week AmDam (ahem, fortnight). Need to back yourself in!ย ย ;)

We do need to remember, a fortnight to enjoy that we are in a Granny. Havenโ€™t lost yet or won it so we can enjoy this feeling of euphoria that we are the best.

Top of the ladder and we have a week extra to prepare. Have a very hard run later this week then have 8 days to recover any bruises. ย And ENJOY this very long gran final week

Iโ€™m struggling to understand the narrative developing that the Dogs are the โ€œstory of the yearโ€ and it will be the โ€œgreatest flag everโ€ if they win it.

Why? Because they lost games they shouldnโ€™t towards the end of the regular season which dropped them into fifth? Is that what makes them the โ€œstory of the seasonโ€? Failure?

I donโ€™t mind the Dogs. Iโ€™m just a bit perplexed how their story trumps that of a historical cellar dweller finally coming good to dominate all comers and break a 57 year premiership drought.

But maybe Iโ€™m biased.

Agreed, we finished on top of the ladder yet have not played a final at home.

The Grand Final not at the MCG is just a coincidence that it is our home ground, but the other finals we have had to play at neutral venues while other teams still could play at home.

Surprising really, many pundits have already switched band wagons. The more better, Iโ€™d like to see us moderately under dogged.

Just watche dgame again.

Umps killed us 19-6 at 3/4 time. Some howlers they scored direct goals.

We missed at least 5 goals. Kicked 9 g 11b Fritsch and Brown were main offenders

Got cleaned up in the stoppages 31-27. They got several fwd stoppage goals

Got back to within 4 points in the last despite the free kick count killing us in the last. The kicked the last 3.

It was pouring with rain in the 1st qtr and we missed our chances, That break was essentially the game.

Keith went off with a hammy in the first.

Schache tagged lever. Daniel was left alone 'out the back' - cannot do that again. Langdon played on JJ, Brayshaw on Hunter

They used a lot of short kicks to break through our defence. Los of throws and dropped balls. They had often 2 extras at the stoppages

They don't scare me at all. But we need to play the game on our terms and pressure them reentlessly

Just had a look back as well.

Thinking that we were not quite out of our loading phase. Not a Melbourne performance at all. How important was Viney!

Brown not there yet. Completely different form line now. The player we need to quell is Bailey Smith. Viney for Norm Smith.

And I would assign Spargo to CDaniel to chase, tackle and harass at every opportunity to stop his drive out of their backline.ย

I'm only part way through this thread, and lapping up every bit of it ....... BUT

I'm in lock-down here in Canberra, and was wondering if there are any Demonlanders who can get to the game, and are looking for tickets to the Granny.ย  I have a Priority 1 and a Priority 2 Barcode which I can email to anyone who promises to cheer loud and strong for the Dees.ย  Please PM me with details if interested.ย  I think tickets go on sale tomorrow morning.

PM sent Deeoldfart.

If they get a run on a kick a few goals in a row , we may need a B plan or spanner in the works to get things going our way.

I would love to see Jackson played as a ruck rover to Max and take the ball high and then dish it off to Clarry or Trac, or pump it forward.

Just something different to mix it up if we need to.

Iโ€™m so bloody over hearing about the bulldogs and their underdog status. โ€œBacks against the wallโ€ mentality. Completely manufactured narrative from Bevo. They found themselves in that position because they lost games. Meanwhile, we have come from outside the Top 8 last year. Won 9-0. Been on a tarmac for hours before flying home to win by 98 pts. Then, we win the minor premiership and get the reward of no home finals and 2 weeks in quarantine. Then after winning both finals, our GF opponent gets the luxury of a 2 week break for god knows what reason. Absolutely over the โ€œworking class heroโ€ narrative the Dogs dish up. Half their team are elite private schoolboys, but because one grew a mullet the Western morons think he is some battler like them. I hope we smash this pack of phoniesย

Last time we played the dogs I remember Gawn taking a lot of ball out of the ruck and slamming it fwd. Think it will work well in the GF.ย

Totally agreed.ย
Take your Covid infested sh!thole of a suburb and shove it up your backsideโ€ฆ. If any Demonlanders live in the western suburbs I exclude you from thatโ€ฆ. But also I didnโ€™t see Daniel Andrews rolling out an MCC doctor to tell us why we need to stay home and get vaccinated. I did however note their press conference at the Whitten Oval a few weeks ago. Worked about as well as the Dogs last 3 home and away rounds.ย

Donโ€™t worry , behind closed doors our narrative is better.

The boys are doing it for us, the long suffering supporters who have never seen a flag.

Its a lot stronger than Bevos whinger ย mentality .

Completely unnecessary.

Does anyone know if a timeline for GF Day has been announced? I know that bouncedown is at 5.15pm WST but what about

Time gates open?

Time pre-game entertainment starts?

Thanks everyone.

Probably but itโ€™s incredibly frustrating to be stuck at home for months on end and watch the Covid numbers tick up every single day in areas with low compliance and even lower vaccination rates.ย
We canโ€™t get to the MCG to watch our team play in a grand final because so many people in the north and west of Melbourne continue to do the wrong thing. Itโ€™s infuriating for those of us who have done the right thing for 200 plus days and lost so much in the process.ย
I live in an area with 3 active cases. I canโ€™t see my sick dad or watch the game with him because half our city has decided that Covid restrictions no longer apply to them. And here we are giving away our bloody GFGs instead of going to the game!
Of course my comment was tongue in cheek, but it absolutely hurts to miss out on a grand final. Dogs fans got to experience it recently enough. Weโ€™ve waited 57 years only to be stuck at home and miss out on all of it!

I totally get where you are coming from, but we are all in the same boat and I am as frustrated as anyone. I live in an eastern suburb with no cases but have close friends in the west who live in houses I canโ€™t afford to take a [censored] in. I know it was tongue in cheek but itโ€™s hardly a [censored] hole.It just reeks of Melbourne โ€˜elitismโ€™.

I am sorry you cant see your sick dad, I hope he is alright and sincerely hope that situation changes soon.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourneโ€™s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle.ย As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nationโ€™s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.ย

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
