I used to thrash Cradle of Filth when going to the gym, great workout music 🤣 Also used to love other old school punk/metal like Dead Kennedys, Pantera, Lard and the album Jello did with DOA.

One of my favourite Doom/Stoner/drone bands is Boris, their albums/EPs Feedbacker and Flood are masterpieces. Early Electric Wizard are a favourite too (hence my avatar) and Time Travelling Blues by Orange Goblin is another great album, it just oozes cool for me with those thick guitar riffs.

Loving this thread, I'm always looking for new bands to get in to so will be great to see what others on here are listening to.

Never thought I’d see Boris mentioned on Demonland. Flood and Feedbacker are great. Been a long while since I’ve listened to Boris, or Sunn O)) or SunnO))) & Boris…

I can’t think of many newish metal albums I’ve really enjoyed besides Rivers of Nihil’s - Where Owls Know My Nane. Loved that album.

Haven't heard that one will have to give it a run.

When I saw Sunn O))) play with Boris the bass almost burst my ear drums haha

I don't know if I'm getting old or the music really just isn't that good anymore? Most younger people I know listen to more rap/r&b or electronic music these days which I still don't mind but nothing tops decent rock/metal. I've been told to give King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard a go but haven't got around to it yet

On topic, from now until first bounce on Friday it's Dream Until You Die by Martini Martini & the Bone Palace Orchestra.

If we lose it will be The World Is Broken by the same band 😂

If we win it's Take Your Skin Off and Dance

PS - far better versions of these songs are found on their Live At The Famous Rainbow Hotel CD (which I was there for when they recorded) but it's not available online anywhere.

For sure, it definitely gets you going. I think I might have turned off them a bit the last time I saw them when Dani just walked off the stage with a couple of songs to go in the gig.

Everyone should love Electric Wizard in my opinion :p Orange Goblin I may have to check out!

Have you heard of Uncle Acid and the Dead Beats Gonzo?

Haven't heard them but they're on my Spotify now.

Did you see Wizard when they came out in 2005-ish? Supercoven and Return Trip were immense. I saw them at the old Green Room twice and went down to Geelong to watch them as well at some small pub with around 10-20 people watching. I reckon the owner was worried the bass was going to bring the place down 🤣

I think 10 to 11 Tuesday night prelim week is perfect for this one. And it’s certainly time for the Demon cleaner!

Greatest stoner album ever produced. Period.

Yes I did! Oct 05 if my memory serves me at the Green Room. What a time. Was so into sludge and doom back then.

Pantera

Loved Pantera. Can't enjoy their music anymore seeing as the Abbott brothers are no longer with us. Dimebag was the best metal guitarist, bar none, in my opinion. Such a tragic ending. America is a seriously f'ed up country

Didn’t realise there was such appreciation for metal on DL. I'll be listening to all the suggestions posted in this thread

As a youngster I was big into metal. Thrash, death, grindcore. Mellowed out as I got older and have a real appreciation for the likes of Soungarden but over the past while (might be because of lockdown) I’m listening to all the old metal again. Napalm Death and Carcass are getting a lot of playtime at the moment.

In terms of stuff that I never listened to previously (and wish i had) I have to say Meshuggah are a serious band. Very complicated, layered and technically accomplished metal. Their drummer, Tomas Haake, is gifted. They are well worth a listen.

Right now I’m blasting John Lydon through my ears buds while I vacuum. Not Johnny Rotten, as in, Sex Pistols. John Lydon as frontman of PiL (Public Image Ltd). I do loves me some post-punk.

Cheers Gonzo will get onto that right now!

To get you through to the prelim.

I need some calm. Maybe some early John Martyn, Joni Mitchell or a couple of tracks from Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell would do nicely.

You are all so hip, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed, but loving reading and lots to try on Spotify

Husband’s prepared a late 70s/early 80s playlist for his 40th year high school reunion (omg), which he’s unleashing tonight. So it’s Wednesday night, on our second bottle of red, listening to nostalgia. bit of dancing happening 🕺

Work tomorrow, but whatever, it’s lockdown and every day feels the same.
