My 3 word player analysis V The Dorks

You Miller bashers never give up! You've been screeming about how he only gets worthless possessions up the ground and never kicks goals. So, on a day where he presented all day and took three strong marks inside the 50 and goaled from all of them he is still a failure?

Not in my opinion

Miller was sensational today

Miller- a capable display.

I've been very critical of Miller. Today he played a capable CHF's game. Presented, kicked 3 (admittedly one of them just floated through), took one really good mark and a few gimmes, gave off adequately. IE: he played like a reasonable CHF. If he can go on from there and use this game as a benchmark, he just might turn into a handy footballer - considering he was a speculative draft pick in the 60's.

McDonald and Jones, it's fair to say, kept us going on the ball

Whelan was solid,

Carroll worked hard under pressure

Bell, again, was a solid performance

Brown and Ward were some of our better running-creative players

Green, Moloney, Miller, Robertson, Jamar, Rivers and Godfrey were mostly OK and sometimes good

White & Jamar, Johnson, Wheatley and Bate all struggled

But Johnstone and Davey are where I'm really worried.

Gotta get that magic back, hell, they ARE our magic

But seriously, "Bruce - no longer elite"?

Ho hum.

I'm real impressed by your bagging. No really. I can't wait to see you at training, telling it like it is to the coaching staff, who obviously are in real need of your advice...

Miller- a capable display.....

kicked 3 (admittedly one of them just floated through),

Doesn't matter, it went through ;) !!!

Miller was sensational today

I am with YM on this particular issue.....

If there was a positive to be taken out of this mess it was the game we saw from Miller today.

It was undoubtedly a vast improvement on recent times and hopefully a mark of things to come.

Whelan was solid

Whelan was woeful. One of his worst performances in a long time.

Maybe he's still suffering the affects from last week's injury. I guess we let him off the hook for once, because he's always been a sensational, hard-working player.

But he was terrible yesterday, Williams made a meal of him, and he got frustrated and gave away silly free kicks.

Bell should have been given the role on Williams a lot sooner. Sadly, the coaches box has the reaction time of a senior centre.

Actually wrecker started beautifully. But yes, he's that good a player that we haven't seen him play that badly in a LONG time, if at all. The new rules aren't helipng his tough-as-old-boots game, and the umpires were on him like a rash. Not making excuses, it certainly wasn't his day, and he should learn to adapt... but he's got enough brownie points in the bank for us to chalk this up as an abberration haven't we?

I thought :

Miller was good. Tried hard, put himself in the game and kicked 3.

Carroll put in another serviceable game

Junior was good - last Q terrific but all to late

Jones - showed in the last Q how good a player he will be.

Bell - Not many possessions but tried hard. Is a late developer and should be ok.

Bruce - good

Rivers - Tried hard

Bate - not far off being a good player. Got caught a couple of times. Needs games under his belt.

Not much to say about the rest.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
