Did Bell play? How did he go?

does anyone know why Bell isn't playing??

does no one remember the talk that went around about him at the crows, although it was after he'd re-signed. i know a lot of people around here don't think he's any good, and constantly attack his awareness, but he's played 2 games for the season. no-one can switch straight back on after being out for almost half a season. give him (and everyone else for that matter) some time. all the chopping and changing every week does no one any good. pick your team and let them play. they can't do much worse. i honestly think that Bell would get a game in many other sides (call me naive or stupid if you will). IMHO, Bell does get caught sometimes, but so do a lot of others. maybe rather than attacking the guy who puts his head over the ball and gets caught with it, we should be having a go at the guy standing just off to the side, not communicating, and waiting for the easy stat.. (would be so easy to name some of those slack, stat racking up players, but i wont). like i said, perhaps Bell would be better off somewhere else... but hindsight is a wonderful thing and can often bite you in the ass.

I think you'll find that Bell has another year on his contract, so unless you want to pay that out, the team may have to keep him. i think that whoever said you wouldn't get a can of beans for him perhaps doesn't read the market very well. Perhaps the best thing for the Demons, and for Bell is to trade him... then again, perhaps in a different team, he could be a different player....

i agree that bell hasn;t done a lot, but just keep in mind how well he plays against Adelaide and at AAMI, id keep him in for that reason at least.

okay.. im an adelaide girl, and so know a little about Dean Bailey. he's a fantastic assistant coach, and i think he'll make a pretty good head coach in the very near future. he has an eye for talent (just look what port have uncovered in the draft this year) and knows how to get the best out of his players. he also is a good talker and would face the media really well however.. if melbourne pass up sheedy then i say get ready for another fifty years of dissapointment.

my only query with anything i've read here, is that the general consensus is that we're delisting Jamar (agreed, dont get me wrong!) and possibly trading White. Who then will be our ruckman? PJ's not that good! p.s completely agree with BrownlowBruce about Bell.. he should not be mentioned in this thread unless he's being added to the "do not touch.. ever!" list!

the demons need a target up forward. with neitz back, they have that target, however the team is not used to having him there and kept spoiling neitz's marks. i think that they need to bring in Newton just to provide that second tall, as i think Dunn would be better used more on the centre half line.

well excuse me for not wanting to blame a bunch of players that played their hearts out. we had errors, yes... but if you and i were watching the same game port had the same amount. port couldn't kick goals, and neither could the dees... the game was as even as you can get, and do you want to know the one difference between the two?? the umpires!!

... except the umpires. i dont think we can blame any one player, one play or even a group of players. every single player put in 100%, its just a shame that umpires decide to take the game into their hands so bloody often.

maybe the way to go is to keep him in the backline, but give him more oppourtinity to use his pace to push up the ground. at the moment (i dont know if anyone notices) he tends to stop at the forward side of the centre square. maybe daniher should tell him to keep running and back himself in! i want to see him kick a goal!

lol.. i dont think we'll be there come round 22... this is just the beginning of a long season, and a lot can change in 20 weeks. i wasn't meaning any of what i said as a massive criticism, and i understand that when you're team loses you need to vent, but i honestly think yesterday was a positive (injuries aside). compared to round 1 when the team just laid down and let the saints run away with it, we saw some fight from our second teir players which is fantastic! i just thought that some positivety around here wouldn't kill anyone.

OH THANKGOD! Finally! Somone else who thinks Bell is good. he has his moments with his awareness, and often second guesses himself but he's always in there working his butt off for the red and blue and that there is the makings of a true great footy player.. the ability to, even when you're having a bad game, to keep working at it. Maybe Bell should do some talking to Davey and Johnstone about that! Bell is a defender, and always has been. i dont think its a good idea to move him too far out of position, however in circumstances such as yesterday, especially in that 4th quarter resurgance, i would've liked to see Daniher let him run forward a bit more and i personally cant wait for the day when he gets that first goal on the board!! Keep going Belly... there are plenty of people who think you're fantastic!

i dont know what is with you melbourne supporters... you seem to spend a whole lot of time trying to find someone to blame everytime something bad happens.. right now the demons biggest problem is us.. us people who are happy to rejoice when we win, but only happy to throw criticism when we lose. stop being so bloody negative, grow up and get behind your team.... they cant do it without you!!! and if all else fails, you can have my mantra from last year (im a bombers supporter).... the only way we can go is up! keep the faith people

If i remember correctly, Bell has played on Williams once before and kept his influence on the game to a minimum.. i'd be willing to give him another chance to do so again on Monday

okay.. here's my 10 cents worth.. the boys did bad, they know that and quite frankly maybe jumping up and down after we lost one game wont help us. put things into perspective.. yes we lost, but we didn't really know what we were up against. we'd never played the saints under Ross Lyon, and perhaps whoever came up against the saints this week would've had the same result. the point is, we were the guinea pigs, and unfortunatly the tests came back with negative results. a few questions and comments raised through reading others posts. Classy Dee.. what did you mean about bate hearing footsteps? Wrathchild... Bell was unaccountable, i agree, however i still believe this is more due to the same problems he had last year. Bell has always been one of those players that believes in sticking with your man, but he gets caught trying to cover his man and someone elses when other players (eg. Carrol) go streaming downfield and manage to stuff it up. there is a big difference between being unaccountable, and trying to cover two blokes with one man. Bell should get some credit for staying in position and trying to make the backline stronger (although, ill be the first to admit, he had a shocker on friday night) Pringle... thankyou for being the first person to be positive around here... sometimes the negativity is deafaning, and its nice to hear someone upbeat around here. for gosh sakes guys, its round one... i dont think bell or bartram should be dropped.. belly had a bad game and i dont think anyone will dispute that, but the kept trying, which, when the team is losing, is about all you can ask for. Bartram worked his little heart out and that should be rewarded with at least another week in the squad. Yze is hard, he played like crap last night, but you could still see that he was trying. Whereas Davey didn't show even a glimpse and no one's calling for him to be dropped. Dont take that the wrong way, i dont think he should be, but he needs to be given a share of the blame too. my ins and outs would be: Miller for Ferguson Whelan for Rivers McLean for Pickett

you have to be kidding franky, bell is always the one left covering someone else's man when they run off down the field. Bell is often the one caught in the middle and unfortunatly is made to look like a dope. i only heard the radio broadcast, so i didn;t hear much of him (as you often dont with defenders) so i cant comment. my only real comment is that i wished they would've kicked it a bit more rather than over-possessing it. perhaps kicking it to Neitz who was being stood by Zac Dawson all night may have stitched up the game for us.
