I will be absolutely PUMPED to have the majority of the footy world behind us in our flag quest. We can use all the support we can get in game-day crowds this year.

Make the most of it before the novelty wears off after our 3rd or 4th flag in a row, when everyone outside the MFC family hates us.

Some supporters cannot remember the first player to wear the number 13 was Wayne Gordon

Not quite true.

Demonwiki tells me that 13 (!) players wore that number before Wayne Gordon but the number was not used between 1954 and 1974 because legendary Secretary Jim Cardwell thought it was unlucky.

After Gordon's untimely death in 1983, the number was retired until 1989 when it was worn by Tommy Kavanagh, son of Brent Crosswell.

I'm with "the more the merrier" crew.

When kids are at the age of deciding which team to support, they are influenced by a number of factors. Family, friends, attractiveness of jumper, the success of the team/s, brand of football played, likeability of players, not wanting to the only Demons supporter in the class. How many new supporters would the Demons have attracted between 2011 - 2017 ?

If the team can achieve sustained success, it will lead to more kids coming onboard. Bandwagon supporters are fine, and assist in creating a snowballing effect. Which will obviously help the club in the long term.

Wait a minute... Kids get a choice?

A great post. I'd forgotten that Goody is demed by many as the 'greatest' Crows skipper so far.

And I bet they still love Jake Lever. Just don't admit it within earshot of Tex.

Todd Viney - former SA junior and 45 games with Sturt - thus a tenuos link for young Jack, Steven Stretch, Graeme Molloy, John Tillbrook............................

Huge SA links.

…ANB, Bernardo Vincenzo, Kade Chandler, Steven and Billy Stretch…

…Jimmy Toumpas

Saw Joe Biden on the morning news a couple of days ago and thought to myself, @Wizard of Koz is NOT going to like this...

A workmate told me today he was barracking for the demons.
I said "We don't need ya barracking, buy a membership."

Very happy to have other teams' supporters getting enthusiastic about us. It's not like they are going to be taking credit.

I will not be happy when they instantly switch back to smugness and condescension if we slip.

It's our own players who can decide the matter, though.

I think I love you Billy

Clearly not a "Big Picture" supporter. The only thing that matters is the roar of affirmation.

We can always celebrate without non members.

I go for long walks and dont mind wearing my Melbourne jumper with no 13 on the back ( coz if I cant wear it to the footy I may as well wear it on the street etc) anyway the amount of people who say say "Go Dees" or similar warms the cockles of the soul. Happy to have outside buy in

I've been wearing my 2006 Country member hat all year when I go out/ working. I had some one say "I see you are jumping on the bandwagon". In reply I said; keep a close eye, I will wear the other 8 through the finals. I do have a finals hat I prefer cause it's signed by Clarry.

So you're a Country member, oh I remember. So am I.

I'm calling this out YW.

In 2018 I, and hundreds of other MCC members were lining up at 9.00am, hours before the gates opened. You clearly don't know how walk ups work. For a GF people sleep out overnight and are lined up by MCC officials for an 8.00am opening and then it's every one for themselves. Get in and take the seat you want.

For those 2018 finals against Geelong and Hawthorn I saw the same folks there each week, putting in the hours and then heading in to their preferred area after the gates were opened about 2.00pm.

No-one, not even on routine match days rolls up 10 minutes before the start unless they are happy sitting way up in the back.

No ill-feeling meant but do understand that you are talking BS.

Totally agree with you …I have no problems queueing for any of our marquee games & pretty much always queue in the early hours especially for the GF.  A pretty rubbish post YW

Mine didn't. Grew up in Brisbane during the Lions glory years and never could understand why they were forced to barrack for such a crappy team.

Then we went down to the MCG for the 150th year celebration match against Collingwood.

We ended up with seats in the Collingwood cheer squad. Fights broke out around them between magpie supporters.

This experience galvanised them. We lost of course.

So stoked they stuck fat. They're both up in Nth Qld and loving the way we are playing now. Very proud of them.

been giving a rabid cat fan mate hell the last few weeks he said he might have to jump on the dees    i bluntly told him theres no room haha

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
