I’m so glad we are going to have a Tasmanian team. It’s long overdue.

Which brings me to the jumper. It feels older - like it was designed mid century. I like it. It feels like a middle finger to the AFL. A way to say ‘should have been done decades ago’. I also like that it’s associated with state of origin. Gives the club a really unified ‘us against the world’ attitude right from the start. Sport is tribal, and this really delivers on that.

I personally can’t stand the devil motif. It’s far too over worked. They’ve got some time to refine that and get it right. The crows took a while to figure out how to make their bird feel premium, and iconic. It’ll come together.

It’s all great for the sport, and for Tassie. I hope its success highlights some of the AFL’s poor decision making to chase ‘potential populations’, instead of delivering to established football communities.

Welcome Tassie!

And commiserations to all Tasmanian 'Landers who now have an emotional dilemma!

700-odd posts in, barn door, horse, bolted. But...

On the jumper, has the opportunity been missed to use the Tassie map as a yoke (à la the Opera-House-d Swans yoke)?

And the 'T' shows a lack of confidence in brand recognition.

p.s. How are the Flinders, King, Cape Barren and Bruny Islands and Tasman Peninsula folks feeling about the design?

(#2's a good riff on my earlier thoughts. But don't forget the King I. and Flinders / Cape Barren I. epaulettes!😄)

We've seen how original jumper designs of new clubs have changed over the years, sometimes very significantly. So, don't lose hope; these and variations in time won't surprise.

On a related matter, an opportunity was missed to have a first Indigenous strip (though perhaps this would have been a bit awkward given one of the issues with the stadium site...)

When I was traveling through the States, once the locals hear you are from Tasmania they invariably want to talk about the Devil. I would tell them you had to pay an separate insurance premium to cover your home against a Tassie Devil spinning through it Taz style.  It was believed around 90% of the time, so this comes as no surprise.

I think the gernsey is something will tinker with over time naturally.

Not really a big deal.

You guys do realise the Guernsey with the state and T in the middle is not the home & away Guernsey don't you?

This is a heritage one they'll wear a couple of times a year....the home & away kits are yet to be revealed.

No one seems to know this

Afl article states its their inaugural jumper they'll be playing in and makes no reference to it being a heritage only jumper.

Was this clarified elsewhere?

But i am Not Happy at all that we are going to have 19 teams in the Comp, it just makes the draw more compromised than it already is

I haven't read the full thread but surely Tassie Devils infringes on our IP and logo etc?

No trips to Geelong for 10 years a fair swap?

On the guernsey, the Map is almost sacred to us in Tasmania. I don't expect it to be worn much from 2028 but it meant a lot that it is the founding guernsey. Non Tasmanians won't quite understand the significance.

What's with the logo?  I've never seen a Tasmania Devil with green hair.

next you'll complain that they didn't put a facial tumour on the image.

friend's response - why does their logo look like a hairy fish?

Intestiing - a friend of mine has a similar question 🙄

It would clash with our navy jumper at night. Would need either a red on green variation or a light green variation.

Could be mainly yellow with red and green, or white with the other 3 colors, thinking of the Jackjumpers, and thats how they have gone.

I agree the green would clash with MFC, Carlton and possibly a few others

Clash jumpers - more marketing for the AFL.

Exactly - and of course who gets the bye round 1 (after 0) and in the last round?   Compromised beyond belief.

I thought the same thing, looked at the NBL store for one team. It's crazy how many different tops they have!

Gonna let that slide and the first shot at a rivalry with a new team ;) Did you honestly think that the jumper would be anything different?

I just signed up as a foundation member for the 6 members of my family. The order number was approximately #13700 I think. Most of the people on the AFL facebook site that supports the team and stadium are buying between 2-4 memberships.  Its possible that there are 25k-30k foundation members signed up for this team inside of 35 minutes. Sure it's not a full membership for games etc, but if it says anything about a team and stadium and interest in a Tasmanian team.

Edit: as of 8pm, the foundation member order numbers are over 19k. Given each have multiple memberships, there is a chance of 40k - 50k members signing up tonight.

I heard that they had over 25k signed up at $10 each.  Its a sneaky way to get GF tickets, My mate who is a life long tigers supporter in WA, signed up with the giants and got his tigers v GWS grand final ticket through the GWS application as he missed out as. tiger member.   Might be an option considering how fast they want the team to succeed.

The eagles were essentially a state team when they joined, it was also implied in their originally version of the song.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
