AZ has been available by the truckload for a while and has also been available for those under 60 for a while. Andrews has been pushing AZ too, the only one who hasn't is that [censored] health advisor up in Qld and she changed her mind a day after saying she wouldn't allow it.

Don't think you can say under 40's have had plenty opportunity to get it. ScoMo only announced that under 40's could get it on June 28, night https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-01/atagi-co-chair-pours-cold-water-on-morrison-az-comments/100257392. Give another week for GP's to get processes in place so it could go ahead. So realistically it was only available from July 5. Considering the 12 week gap between injections, that realistically only gives under 40's a 3 week gap to get it before the grand final.

This also meant that people are going ATAGI's advice of waiting to get Pfizer.

Actually you can reduce the time between jabs to 8 weeks, I did.

Yes, you can, but apparently the effectiveness is somewhat compromised/reduced by a few percentage points.  I'm hanging out for the full 12 weeks (2 weeks from today) for my second jab of AZ.

I hope it does change. For fans like @DEE fence (lives and works abroad and has family in Perth) this would be great.

The down side Dante is you do reduce the effect. However I see why you would do it. Fortunately I got my first shot early and waited the 12 weeks.

In Queensland I think if you try to get AZ they shoot you!!!!!!

I believe the reduction in efficacy is about 1or 2 %, the opposite is far more dangerous.

Any side effects Cookie? I mean, apart from the fact that you now post in large, italic purple type? 😁

Its funny you should post that DL.

As a glass half full sort, i was thinking that no pre finals bye would actually work in our favour given our fitness, but in particular how healthy our loss is (touch wood).

Not sure about the Power, but the dogs and Cats are limping along a bit and would love that extra week to get prepared for the qualifying finals.

I've never liked the pre finals bye, not that has been an issue for us!

It is important to remember why it was brought in - which was primarily to stop teams sending out a b team in the last round in dead rubbers to keep players fresh for the finals.

The trigger was freo under lyon dong juts that against the hawks down in tassie. It was stupid knee jerk decision

In the years since there has been some revisionism and it is often said the benefit of it is that teams have their best shot of having their best team on the park in the first week of finals. And by doing so creating a more level playing field.

But that is actually the key reason i don't like it.

Teams who have prepared well, are fit and are in ok shape injury wise (through luck and/or good management) are disadvantaged. And teams that win the qualifying final then have two week break before the prelim.

So lets say the team that finishes top, has an easy win again the team that finished 4th. And lest say they had dead rubber in round 23. Come the prelim they might have only played one tough game in 5 weeks - two if the qualifying final is tough.

The stat swamp highlights seem to support the contention the pre finals bye disadvantages the top 4 teams

If we win and Dogs lose by not much and thus stay fourth where do people think the game might be?

I recall a commentator suggesting Tasmania but surely not.

Alice Springs temperatures looking nice for a night game

Friend of a friend who knows someone related to a taxi driver who reckons he knows someone who works for the AFL tells me the bye will be after the preliminary final to keep all options open for a Grand Final full (ish) house.

Pfizer was made available to Victorians 40 and over in late May https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/vaccine-roll-out-expand-all-victorians-40-and-over

Edit: my mistake, thought the discussion was about over 40s, not under.

This is a quote from The Conversation site, re effectiveness based on time between shots:

Leaving 6-8 weeks between shots increased efficacy to 59.9%, and waiting 9-11 weeks, efficacy was 63.7%. However, if the gap was 12 weeks or longer efficacy jumped to 81.3%.

Was interested to see the H&A w-l formlines for each of the premiership teams of the last 10 years.

Premiership Team Form lines last 6 rounds of H&A Season:

Richmond 2020 - 6-0
Richmond 2019 - 6-0
West Coast 2018 - 4-2
Richmond 2017 - 5-1
Western Bulldogs 2016 - 3-3
Hawthorn 2015 - 4-2
Hawthorn 2014 - 5-1
Hawthorn 2013 - 5-1
Sydney 2012 - 3-3
Geelong 2011 - 5-1

Formline Last 5 Games 2021 (not including final round)
Melbourne - 3-1-1
Geelong - 4-1
Western Bulldogs - 3-2
Port Adelaide - 5-0

They are just stats but Port, despite their shaky record against top teams are a genuine threat based on the numbers.

Yep, there is increasingly little doubt that you have to be in some sort of form at the end of the season to be relevant in the finals. It's not essential, given that Richmond aside every premier has lost at least once late in the season, and some lost multiple times, but it's relevant.

If we win this weekend our 4-1-1 formline will be completely fine, but obviously Port is peaking at the right time.

At which stadium?

Remarkably, the AFL and MCC are still in discussions to have 50% at the MCG, as much of a Hail Mary that proposition is.

Hey has anyone else started thinking through the scenario if we are in the prelim, it's the 25 minute mark and we are going to win. Goody soon has to start thinking about getting good players off for the big one so we can't have a risk of an injury or worse a concussion. What 4 players would you take off?

I'm thinking Maxy, May, Lever then either Oliver or Trac.

Yes, but they don’t say roughly how much, but they do mention the 81% at 12 weeks which is the same as mentioned in my earlier quote… so I’m guessing the figure they’re not providing probably matches (or thereabouts), the figure in my quote. Either way, the protection is way better than the alternative.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
