If you think this is no big deal you’re letting your Melbourne bias cloud your judgement. It is a dumb and dangerous thing to do. It’s a bad look and we are a better team than that. Can’t stand clubs who resort to cheap shots.
We won by 98 points. What is the [censored] point of this sort of idiotic aggression?

He held him down for 6 seconds with his elbow to his throat. They sent it the tribunal for ‘serious misconduct’. If he gets 2 weeks I think we are lucky. He’s not in the boys club. He’s gone.

Why? He deliberately pushed his elbow into the neck of an opponent. It was not accidental, it was deliberate and dangerous. If someone did that to Oliver you would be calling for their head.
It is a totally unnecessary act when we try to protect the head. The intention behind it means he will get at least a week. So good luck to him getting back into the side.

Dangerous? Please

I'm sure the guy was so traumatised he went straight off the ground and into the rooms for medical assessment

Which video do you see?

Collins looked lifeless to me for the 5 seconds Viney had him pinned down by the throat.

The one on the AFL website.

He's clearly not "lifeless", bit of an overreaction there mate. Look at this still - He drags Viney down and has hold of his jumper with two hands.

i find it absolutely ridiculous that this would even get cited and referred straight to the tribunal. Serious misconduct? There are countless jumper punches which are a bigger blight on the game that what what was simply a tonsil tickler.. never at one moment did he have his full body weight through his elbow.

Putting pressure on someone’s neck is dangerous. Full stop.
You try having a 90 kilo footballer put their elbow on your throat and see how you like it.
Just because no damage was done this time doesn’t mean we should just let it go. It’s absolutely a bad look for a game that is trying so hard to protect the head of players.
Tell me this, if a Gold Coast player did that to Gus who has a history of head injuries would you be mad about it?

Therein lies the point of this. You often see a player leaning on an oppo player in the act of getting back up on his feet. And yeah, he might apply some extra pressure for a second. But this went on for 4-5 seconds, which is a long time when your windpipe is being squashed.

Well if Franklin gets off then Viney should as well.  However it doesn't work this way.

What team does Michael Christianson go for again? Any coincidence that we play the cats in 3 weeks time and Viney would go straight to Selwood? Move along, nothing to look at here.

Collingwood.

Is this a joke? Viney is getting held down by his jumper, Selwood does this crap all the time, what a disgrace to even waste people’s time with this rubbish

there is no injury, no case! That’s the way the AFL has been going for years.
If he was pushing that hard on his neck do you not think Collins would be holding his neck after the incident.  The bloke just jogged off.

Hang on, so is it throat or head? Don't try and make it sound worse by changing the story to suit your examples.

Don't u ever put words into my mouth!

Based on what ive seen, based on the fact Dees seem to always cop serious tribunal stick, I  reckon he will get weeks! Putting an elbow onto someones neck is not just stupid its potentially very very dangerous

Because you play from siren to siren.  Based on your view than ANB shouldn’t have made that chase down tackle in the last qtr and just been relaxing at half forward.

What? Are we looking at the same video? Nowhere near his windpipe.

The head and neck are one of the same. If injured both can have severe consequences. Hence why we pay frees for above the shoulders and not just for being hit directly in the head.

Are you comparing laying a tackle to deliberately hurting an opponent off the ball??? How are these two things related??

I guess Jordan comes in for Viney

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
