Just because he is being played, doesn't mean he should be.

Clubs DO get it wrong, some players work through it and others don't.

Yeah nah! I was quoting the views of officials who recruited him.

Good luck to him but check out how he’s been going in the Gold Coast Reserves. This is how he went last week’s game against the Brisbane Reserves.

FMD you know you're all over the shop when you're using dream points as the main key criteria for rating someone's performance without even watching the actual game.

Laughable.

He gas been playing in defence!!
at this stage Suns  have lost about 4/5 regular defenders so why not give Mac a chance .

Stars aren't everything and you are exactly what's wrong with some D/Lers that only judge goals or kicks as bring in the best.  "Playing your role" never looks better!!'

Good luck Mac.

Really? You're the one who's been all over the shop here.

I expect a number 5 draft pick in his first season to get in his team's best players a few times if he's playing in the ressies to justify a place in the ones - wouldn't you? How many times has he done that?

I think it's a fair question but the Suns have clearly chosen this time to give him a game because they're playing the Eagles and also have some lesser opponents coming up which is better than when Melbourne unleashed Jack Watts against Collingwood on QB all those years ago.

Let's see what he produces in these games.

Lol you blokes make me laugh.. First of all clubs barely keep track of of who's in the 'best' now days.

His form in the VFL has been solid enough to justify his selection. His numbers stack up very well as a defender, and now he's been rewarded with a debut. Not bad for a kid that you specifically said wouldn't even get a game in two years of being in the system.

Just reminding you once again that;

Some of you were certainty that he wouldn't go top 10. ✔️

Then there was the certainty that he wouldn't get a game in his first couple of years in the AFL system with how skinny he is. ✔️

Continue to write the kid off at your own peril. But his last 12 months of development has been huge and that comes down to mostly hard work from Andrew with support of the footy club.

I don't expect much from his first game at AFL and just looking out for those glimpses like all kids who play their first games.

Well done to the kid.

You make me laugh too.

He was not named once in the best players in their reserves and you think that's satisfactory for a top 5 draft pick?

His performances are not even on par with Casey's Corey Ellison who isn't even AFL listed.

Apologies  - so the Suns had him in their best 6 in Round 3 in a 10 goal defeat. The competition is into Round 19. How many votes do you think he’ll get in the Liston Medal?

I only saw him against Casey and he still looked a bit off it. I think it’s tough for the kid as he was playing on ball in his junior footy and he’s not going to have the height to do it in the AFL, so they are trying to turn him into an interceptor. They’ve had a few injuries down back across their list so he then ended up playing more as a traditional full back and had been towelled up by bigger bodies. If he’s playing in the ones as a 3rd tall/interceptor it might really help him get his confidence up. Good luck young fella.

I think it’s worthwhile contributing to the debate since I have watched a bit of Andrew’s play over the season thanks to the streaming of games on the afl site and more particularly, the Casey v Gold Coast game played a month ago at the Ausworld Centre on the Gold Coast.

He has been played mostly at CHB which suits a straight ahead game and with his height in that position, a feature has been his marking. His year began well with that early game vs Carlton his best. He picked up more than 20 touches in a thrashing but the game was played a lot in his half of the ground.

Since then, his form has been no better than middle of the road with some mediocre performances.  In the game vs Casey, he was average at best and my note were that if he doesn’t fill out he’ll be destroyed by someone. Took some good marks, showed some good second efforts but nothing to get excited about. He was well beaten last week - his opponent kicked four goals.

He doesn’t stop trying but I was surprised that he’s been selected this early. As WJ alluded, it’s probably because the game is against West Coast - I couldn’t see him picked against the Cats for instance. Still, like all here, I wish him luck.

Just reported on the 3AW news that Mac Andrew was caught drink driving on the Gold Coast.

On average you drink and drive ~70 times before you’re caught.

I would drink too if I had to live there.

It's not the drinking  it's the driving CF. And it's cheap compared to a lot of other spots on that costly area.

I don’t think he was ever “pinched” from us.  Gold Coast was entitled to nominate him under the rules set down by the AFL and they validly did so. End of story.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
