Only my opinion

Last year finished 9th (improved a bit  Ok)

Positive   improved this year   ...  beauty  well done to club  players coaches

However luck went our way a bit with  a few early wins     (and lucky to win against the bummers)

Geelong  Richmond underdone as shorten pre season and we had 5 weeks on them to do preseason

Positive      on top of ladder for week....  well done players coaches

However will  struggle to make top 4 (negative)   I always thought we are not in top 3 or 4 teams......YET

Positive will make finals for only 2nd time in many years  so good effort. well done players coaches

MUST build on this year unlike 2018.         I dared to dream premiership  but not this year  still need a couple good players   and any any chance of a centre clearance   and a tall forward to aim for.   Tom is good but plays up ground.          So all in all positive year but got ahead of ourselves .   (collingwood game..  bloody hell !!)

If make top 4 will donate $50 to club  and I hope I will be paying

anyone else want to join (commit to $50 if make top 4)

The way I see it is before the season started I thought we’d narrowly miss the finals, instead we may narrowly miss top4.

Don’t think top 4 is gone. Hoping for some serious bite and bounce back this Thursday.

whatever happens this season, as long as we build on it the following year and not have a yo-yo like existence

The lack of faith on this forum is funny.

we are a genuine PREMIERSHIP threat, who had an off day Sat, just like all the other premiership threats have done multiple times this year.

we will beat Port Thurs, and you will all jump back on again.

We will lose to Port on Thursday, and there will still be people on here pretending that 3 wins and 4 losses from the past 7 games is nothing at all to worry about and that the flag is in the bag.

There’s never a guarantee to ‘build on’ the previous year. At all. Look at Adelaide after their grand final appearance a few years ago and Fremantle. The time is NOW.

Mid-season staggers by premiership winners. Some are definitely there, some are pretty minor and not really worth considering, and some teams had start-of-season problems. Melbourne's 3w 3l run mixes in without so much as an eyebrow raised.

Richmond 2020 - not sure if going 1w, 1d, 2l to start the season counts as a mid-season slump!

Richmond 2019 - round 11 to 13 - three consecutive losses (by an average margin of 45)

West Coast 2018 - round 13 to 15 - three consecutive losses

Richmond 2017 - round 6 to 9 - 4 consecutive losses (without passing 75 points)

Footscray 2016 - round 13 to 19 - 3w 3l

Hawthorn 2015 - another from the start: round 1 to 8 - 4w 4l

Hawthorn 2014 - round 5 to 10 - 2w 3l

Hawthorn 2013 - no slump

Sydney 2012 - round 6 to 9 - 1w 3l, and again in rounds 20 to 23 - 1w 3l

Geelong 2011 - round 15 and 16, consecutive losses.

Collingwood 2010 - round 9 to 12 - 2l, 1d, 1w (and that draw was to 2011 Demons!)

Moral of the story: Calm yourselves.

The way I see it is that with our age profile we are in or approaching a 5-6 year premiership window. While we now have an experienced core group, this weekend we still had the 3rd youngest team for the round, and for many weeks we have had seven high-potential players who are 21 or under (Spargo, Sparrow, Jackson, Rivers, Jordon, Pickett and Petty), most of whom haven't yet played 20 games. We also have good, recent first-round draft picks like Bowey and Laurie coming up.

The team has far exceeded my expectations for this year. We may not get to the GF, and may not be premiers. It will be great if we make it and it won't be surprising given our season so far. We'll give it a great shot, but on the downside having so many players 21 or under in a GF, or a finals series, this year is statistically against us.

But watch out for 2022 to 2026, especially when vaccinations manage Covid-19 better and the seasons are hopefully back to more "normal".

I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic, but I think realistic.

lol. all these people criticising my opinion and now people are joining my opinion. I'm like the Nick Kyrgios of Demonland. People are so fickle.

I would love that to happen....

No. People are sick of your grand-standing. You said we'd lose 4 and win 4. You then went on to name the 4 games we'd lose. And got it wrong. So back in your box hero.

There have been too many 'call to arms' threads as of late. Doctor Who's/Hutchy's latest offering and now this. ?

Brisbane started the year 1-3.

The Dogs just finished a 4-3 patch (i.e. one game different to what you're proposing).

Geelong also had a 4-3 patch (one of the wins was the Brisbane game where the late missed free kick cost the Lions the win).

Port Adelaide had a 3-3 patch, with one of the wins being over Collingwood by 1 point.

Also I can't see a single poster on Demonland who has said "the flag is in the bag". Some, though, have said the chance of us winning a flag remains.

Dr D prior to the Essendon game - we'll lose to Essendon and beat GWS.

Dr D after the GWS game - I'm always right.

My view is that the guys have played well above my expectations this year and I have enjoyed the wins. We have the skill set to be a huge GF contender and we only need to look at the wins against the Dogs and the Lions to quantify that.

We still don’t have that elusive Plan B though….

What? No guts, poor temperament and hate adversity?

Nah, I still reckon you’re obscenely negative. My opinion about that won’t waver.

Yep you're as insufferable as he is, with literally 0 grand slams.

To really make your point perhaps you ought to say you’re the Bernard Tomic of DL. ? At least Nick can play tennis.

Yeah, fair enough.

But we've been here with he Dees before, and it's always ended up the same. Our history is long and consistent as far as failure goes. The signs are there already.

I fear that we will lose a golden opportunity in the coaching box.

Viney was struggling in the middle on the weekend, why wasn’t Gus put into the guts when we were getting smashed, his playing the wing role great but we have to win the ball in the middle.

hunt was throw forward so surly he couldn’t been on the wing for a short period of time. Backing Jack to recapture form but another poor week does he need a run at Casey?

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
