Are we joking about Brayshaw? He needs time in the seconds to get back in form.

No you are not watching or seeing his team efforts They are in front of you on the screen or at matches Watch him do the 1% ers as well snd support for the backs and forwards.

Very good DrD but leave Jacko alone he is rucking  about 50% and performing and we are getting Gawny both forward  and back who influences the game as long as he doesn't drop the marks!

Joeboy - narky as usual

Fritsch - Clever brave footballer

McDonald - Massive work rate

Weideman - Presenting and Working

Gawn - Returned to Form

Pickett - Never gives up

Harmes - outstanding tagging role

Petracca - Inspirational team game

Jordon - Another RS nomination

Spargo -  Clearly Best 22

May - Rock of Gibralter

Salem - did his job

Jackson - Another team player

Lever - genius at work

Brayshaw - brilliant team play

Oliver - Best on Ground

Hibberd - tough as nails

Langdon - good not great

Melksham -  needs to lift

His rucking is superior to Gawn at the moment

Re-watch the game... Brayshaw was sensational as the defensive wing.  Don't recall him losing a single one on one, and his 1% efforts were fantastic.  He did everything you could ask him to do without the football.

Daisy Pearce was on the money all game, that he was doing a brilliant, thankless job on the wing.

Fantatsic post on Brayshaw summed up his night.

Can debate on him cease, its just not fair or accurate as to his value defensively for the team. Plus has a great football brain and decision making capability(can't have too many of those). Sure he fluffs it sometime but let's move on. Langdon Oliver Brayshaw - best centreline in the AFL.

92% efficiency last night…

Not a comment at you Demon17, but I am sure some posters just look at the disposals count to work out best players…

Fascinating post game interview showed Lever had practically lost his voice, such was his shouting and directing during the game. Richo commented on hearing it all night leading the defence or just helping tie it all together with his defensive team mates.

All good. I was referring to some earlier games but gee he was great last night.  He and Spargo might just be the 2 smartest footballers in the team.

For sure the IQ is there, but what about most natural? I can't make up my mind, torn between Oliver and Kozzie, and would entertain arguments on another half dozen.

don't get me wrong, i love jackson in the ruck. But not in the forward line and I don't like Gawn in the fwd line either. If you can't kick straight you shouldn't be in the forward line. That's my personal belief. It's too much of a momentum swinger.

Good. only criticism for me would be too nice on Gawn and Pickett. Gawn dropped a lot of marks and has been doing some dumb things like with 50 seconds to go in the 3rd qtr he has the ball at half forward and he wants to slow it down. Wrong decision .Ended up getting called to play on and turning it over and potentially giving the dogs momentum at the break.

Pickett was the pickett of last year. Fumbled and missed 1 or 2 easy goals. Time to slow down again and do the basics well first.

I understand the commentary around Brayshaw. I think he has been extremely poor the last few weeks and is lucky to hold his spot. Tonight he was much better but usually he is a liability on the wing due to his lack of leg speed. And his kicking skills have been way off. But credit where credit is due, he was efficient tonight.

Ummmm ?‍♂️

Its a fair comment. Luke is great in the ruck because he is suberb at ground level.

But then we are lacking a key forward a lot of the time. Max doesnt always go frwd and when he does he often misses goals.

Luke up forward isnt really impacting the scorboard either.

Not sure of a solution but since we are having our best season for  a long, long time Im not too concerned .

On Gawn , when I watched again I noticed the marks more, so you have a fair point, but the 1st quarter clearances with which we had a brilliant quarter, seemed in no small part to Max who was tapping much better than the last few weeks, also while he fluffed a few kicks I was well impressed with him picking the ball up and taking it on, seemed more on, hence my comments.

Pickets did more 1%ers than I could count and at one stage split the contest with four dogs. That and two bounces while running down the wing with a tackler in hot pursuit had me frothing at the mouth. So on your 2nd point I demur, he did basics well, just missed a couple of moments for goal, but his pressure was a part of the win.

People who don’t appreciate Gus’ role last night don’t appreciate football.

If every player lived up to the standard set by D'land posters, the team would literally get 4,000 possessions in a game.

lol. please. you can't say that Brayshaw is quick. I don't trust these stats at all. Brayshaw is a plodder and my eyes tell me that. If he has pace, then he certainly doesn't use it defensively. As Connor McGregor would say, he's stuck in the mud

I've been 'harsh' on him for a long time but he was fantastic last night. He's gotten better almost week by week in the wing role and showed a different type of talent against the Doggies.

How many times have you used this line?

His game last night, after first disposal, was as good as any that Tomlinson has played. Fits in well with the boys down back.

May not be quite as solid on the bigger beasts as Tommo was but has more strings to his bow in skills.

Either way a great duo to pick from.

Maxy's been getting criticism on here when he lead us like a legend; and you use this line on my comment about Gus, who was good at best! Misdirected.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
