The silver lining in the current outbreak is that it has shaken people up and we are now setting vaccination records in Victoria.

i thought we were seeing vaccination records because they'd opened it up to the under 50s?

Apparently, Case 5 who is the case zero in the current outbreak was eligible for a  vaccine but hadn't decided to have it.

I was told the Flemington vaccination hub, in the northern suburbs ie the epicenter of the current outbreak,  had been virtually empty as over 50's weren't getting vaccinated.

No wonder the vaccine roll-out has been slow - people choosing not to have it.

The sad part is this always seems to be the case LH. The thing that has become apparent to me over the last 18 months is that there are far more idiots in society than I thought. Beggars belief.

Records vs other states.

Doesn't help with the Government come out and say - It's not a race.  There has not been any pushing of vaccinations or not enough anyway.  Government trying to distract from their slow roll out by implying it is not urgent.  Feels pretty urgent now

The dumb masses need to be told what to do.

Heard a snippet on radio about their (Collingwood) football jumpers etc needing to be bagged into PPE type bags before leaving the stadium.

Talk about being treated as untouchables.

Anyone for a pizza ?

Collingwood allowed into Adelaide, just when you think common sense has prevailed the SA CHO comes out with this pearler for those who will attend the match

I mean this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, so people duck for cover and instead the person behind might get smacked in the face with the ball. FFS just bring some antibacterial hand gel with you, or better yet make them available at the ground.

Or another solution make bottom level empty and the crowd only available to level 2/3. Seriously there are some stupid decisions being made out there ?‍♂️.

Well not sure it's always so clear cut.

My sister believes it's due to difficulty with getting releases signed by medical trustees.

As there were supply problems I did not want to get mine until the front line , quarantine, etc staff and the most vulnerable older and disabled etc. had their jab.

I also believe incoming from overseas should not just be tested but should have the vaccine.

I was under treatment and was concerned about side effects etc, I am now scheduled for mine but still find it crazy that others more vulnerable don't have theirs.

Say what you like about our Vic government and our handling of Covid... at least we have Brett Sutton and not this muppet talking about not touching balls.

I would prefer the health experts talking of a health response beyond a lockdown. This has become the go to knee jerk response since the economic response was so successfully introduced because our health system was to be "overwhelmed". This was based on overseas models and our limited availability of respirators.

Once our capacity of respirators was improved and our intensive bed numbers including private beds was acknowledged, the Australian health system has not been appropriately recognised or utilised and has certainly not been overwhelmed.

i would have preferred our politicians to recognise the pandemic as a health issue not an economic and political issue and acknowledge that our health system can identify, track and trace, treat and monitor those affected. Vaccination in a planned fashion through first responders and most vulnerable with quarantine facilities to contain are the most important feature of the treating of the pandemic.

The reality that we have been having large numbers attend football with no recognised spread and yet one person can spread the virus so easily shows the virulence of this variance of the disease. it is why we must take the comments of the experts seriously,

but I believe we should give them other tools particularly a capable health quarantine facility and appropriate vaccination, rather than wholesale community disruption of lockdowns

Except he has been adding mayo on the infectiousness and speed of infection of the current virus type.  Very poor to use fear to justify the lockdown extension. national/scientists-find-no-evidence-strain-is-fast-moving-beast-2021

"The government justified yesterday’s extension of the lockdown by claiming what is now being called the “Kappa” variant of the virus is more contagious than previous outbreaks and infections are occurring more readily between people who only briefly came into contact.

University of Melbourne Professor James McCaw, an infectious disease expert and member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, which advises the national cabinet, said this was not supported by the data he had seen.

“There is no epidemiological evidence that this virus spreads faster,” he said. “There is no clear reason to think this virus is spreading in different ways.

“We need to be very cautious. We are on an absolute knife-edge in Victoria about whether we bring this under control rapidly or it develops further. But I don’t think it is helpful to seed alarmist or doomsday-type thoughts into the community.”

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, who has described the virus strain at large in Melbourne as an “absolute beast” that was spreading “in settings and circumstances we’ve never seen before”, toned down his language yesterday, as acting Premier James Merlino detailed the state’s next stage of COVID-19 restrictions."

Scare mongering by the Vic gov't is not what we need.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
