Those who think Spargo has any chance of being dropped ????

    Anyone that thinks Spargypants will be dropped haven’t been paying close enough attention to the game. Aside from last week (when quite a few of the bottom 6 were off) he has been a vital cog in our forward pressure.

    We have Sparrow, Chandler, BBB, Weed, Lockhart, AVB, Jetta and Bedford waiting in the wings and 16 rounds to go. Need to consider rotating and resting a few out esp some of the young and elderly. 
     

    I’d like BBB to come in for Melk. 
    And if Kozzy or Spargs is a little sore, then give Chandler a crack.

    If Tmac gets suspended, bring in Weed as the roaming CHF.

    From what I have heard and read he is adamant he is not going to play back - the rest is your supposition.

    Yes he has - go and listen to them again - its hard to hear the reporters' questions. In fact in one presser he replies that he will not go into the backline ever and in another he says he will not go to the wing.

    Just because we have depth players at Casey doesn't mean we need to play them in the seniors.

    Players should only be rested if they genuinely require it, not so that we can give a game to Chandler or Bedford or vandenBerg or Lockhart.

    Otherwise the best 22 get picked every week.

    I'm hearing Brown comes in this week, but not sure who will make way just yet. I'd say it'll be Melksham.

    I’d be really tempted to go no change though. The present mix is working. The risk of breaking it has to be a consideration.

    No Spargo and no Kozzie? Unless Chandler can bring any sort of pressure like them it'll change the effectiveness of our system significantly.

    A few specific changes aren't going to decide the matter.  If we are going in with 22 contributors again then the rest is details.

    I disagree. This is not where we're at as a football club anymore. Young players, health of the AFL 22 permitting, should have to wait until their form demands selection and until there is an available spot on offer in the AFL 22. We don't just get games into players for the sake of it. It's a long season, so if the guys at Casey continue to put their hands up, they'll eventually get their chances organically.

    Yet another great test of our maturity to not go into the game thinking the 4 points are in the bag. Very common for teams to have a come down from a big match when coming up against lesser teams.

    Bring the same forward pressure as we did against the tigers and get ourselves a big win.

    I reckon we had our best side on the feild for our biggest test and we passed with flying colours.

    And I reckon Fritta and May may have been needled. May be worth resting them now to recover fully from their injuries.

    Kozzie may have injured his ankle  and could be rested.

    Jones certainly did enough to show he is in our best 22 when the side plays for and with him like they did this week.

    There really was no one who didn't do their bit and so no obvious change 

    But at Punt Road Brown, Weid, Jetta all showed they are a cut above. Weid still has not got the smarts that the other two have.

    Bedford has impressed at the lower level and could do with some exposure up a level.Daw was also impressive and could release Jacko the young body if he needs a relief.

    Petty got a bit banged up and may have been set back.

    It is a good problem to have, the coaches and selectors are making the right calls and if they continue we can meet my optimistic projections. Play the squad and take the flag. It's a long season so keep em all eager and confident.

    This week it is about fine tuning the effectiveness of the team. For instance, if we bring in Brown for a mid or a small, is that going to upset team balance which has been so effective up til now. Personally, l think inclusion of Brown is a must, it is simply how best to do this. When you have someone who is fully fit available who has kicked over 60 goals in a year, you must play them in your best 22. You only need to look at what Cameron has done for the Cats to see that. It is now simply a question of who will need to be dropped.

    I think Tmac doesn't have to go the wing. He could be a very high half forward. Taking marks near the 50 arc and converting is a great asset, as he works up and down the flanks using his endurance running. Also, giving a marking outlet for the backline kick.

    A defender would have to follow him, which could cause a bit of confusion in the oppositions system.  

    This would give more space for Fritta and BBB, to lead into, as an uncongested forward area could develop.

    Its seems we have numerous players other team would love to have but we can't make room for them? ..... I must be on the wrong site. Feeling a bit confused. 

    My two cents: Spargo was epic for us on Saturday. Weed is the future and we need to keep him for the next few campaigns. Burgo, please please stay.

    I suspect the weather forecast will have a lot to do with selection if we play in Tassie. We must not get ahead of ourselves.

    Finally we don't have a real power forward. TMac got a couple of grabs because Max positioned himself incredibly well. Tmac is playing really well and deserves his spot but the question is whether the final improvement to the side is a power forward without losing our smalls pressure game. 

    Hope the selectors aren't as confused as i am. Go Dees.

    There's no way Spargo goes out. He didn't get a ton of ball against Richmond, but he's one of the most savvy and composed users of the ball in the forward half. Every time he gets the ball he does something good with it and often picks a short target inside 50. Massively underrated I reckon. Plus he's part of that pressuring forward unit.

    I'd like to see one of Weed or Brown in the side because whilst were 6-0 and in great form, I don't know if we can beat the bulldogs or the power later in the year or in finals without one of them in the side. 

    Both take great marks and would be in our top 5 in the team for accuracy on set shots which, when they are marking and kicking goals you dont have to defend and lock the ball in the forward 50 as much.

    Who comes out? I got no idea haha

    We need Brown in the team.  We'll be better with a quality FF.

    McDonald is keeping Weideman out.  That's just the way it is.

    Brown should come in for Jones.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
