Fourth-placed Melbourne will take on fifth-placed Fremantle in a home Qualifying Final B at Casey Fields on Saturday, April 3 at 1:05pm AEDT

One of only 2 teams to play every other finalist, and best W/L in doing so.

Subject to COVID in QLD (at least), and success next weekend, difficult PF travel looms for both, but a Melbourne/Collingwood GF is a possibility?

'Do It For Robbie' reborn: 'Do It For Daisy'! - this week, at least, as there's some prospect of her being available for a PF. Notable that the Brisbane fightback and win came with her off after 2 minutes...

...And at the 'G, would it be??????

Our finals draw is pretty good.

Freo after a loss to North. They had to play out the game and they now travel to Vic to meet a team that beat them in WA. If they are slow out of the box again, they will have no hope.  Also, Casey is not an easy field to play on. We had to play out the game against Brisbane but we got the lollies and the emotional surge.

Prefer Adelaide if we get through, as it is less travel. Though will be a different team at home to the one we beat at Casey.

Good luck Dees, train smart.

How good is it to see Dees in the finals, and this year I think on our day we can beat all comers. Shame for Daisy, get to the Granny for her!!!

Ouch, Freo to Tullamarine then a nice little 1.5hr drive to Casey.

So, much like our team, I went missing mid-season…

But also much like them, I’m back with a vengeance!

Rest assured, while I’ve had no time to comment here, I’ve been following our Dees closely. Managed to get to all Vic games this season, including the hellscapes of Whitten Oval and Vic Park. Well, hellscapes in terms of the results and our team’s insipid performances. Clearly both venues are one thousand times nicer to watch footy at than Casey…although I’ve witnessed some magic there this season.

What a rollercoaster! Some real ups and downs, and when I saw the fixture for the last three rounds, I admit I thought we were goners. Luckily, the girls had no such attitude and in fact seemed spurred on by the challenge.

Super happy to return here to see I’ve missed SO MUCH discussion...not the tumbleweeds it once was, great to see so many getting behind the girls with such passion.

RE: the need to bring in a player for Daisy, I wonder if we might bring back Emonson and then push Tarrant forward, which is her natural position. Kicked 5 in the VFLW a few weeks back. The other options are McEvoy and Fitzsimon, and after that we’re into debut territory. At least we have options this year, unlike in 2020 when we were down to an assistant coach as our sole emergency at this stage!

My feelings on our players across the H&A season:

Awesome: Paxman, L.Pearce, Hanks, Zanker, Gay, Goldrick, Lampard, Colvin, Hore, Scott (R9 was a boost!), D.Pearce (never count her out)

Impressed now and for the future: McNamara, Tarrant, Bannan, Sherriff, Heath, Magee, Fitzsimon

More to give/had limited opportunity: Cunningham, Parry, Mithen, Birch, Downie, Petrevski, McEvoy, Emonson

Yet to debut: Caris, Kendall, Simmons

Just not fair: Sloane

Shout out to the coach and his wife for handling the impending birth across R8 & 9 to perfection and welcome to the little one. Also belated congrats to Jane Lange for coaching the girls to victory against Freo.

Everything crossed for Saturday!

P.S. Any chance of getting one of our girls up on the banner for this weekend?

DIO nice to ‘hear’ from you. Yes, it’s been a joy to watch our girls this year.  I personally have loved the even contribution, the obvious strong bond between them and the team first  approach.  Mick S must take some kudos for this.  Our leaders over the past 4 weeks (Paxy, L Pearce, Gay, Goldie, Hanks, Hore & Zanker) have been amazing  and the emergence of Sheriff, Heath, McNamara, Lampard, Colvin, Tarrant and now McGee has given us a real impetus.

Freo at Casey Fields should be doable but we must bring a hunger for the contest and our finishing skills.

B: 9 L Birch 20 B Tarrant

HB: 2 M Downie 8 S Lampard 30 S Heath

R: 15 L Pearce 29 E Zanker 4 K Paxman

C: 18 C Sherriff 5 T Hanks 22 E McNamara

HF: 10 K Hore 12 S Scott 14 L Mithen

F: 16 A Bannan 3 M Gay

I: 1 T Cunningham 19 J Parry 26 L Magee 32 G Colvin ?? My pick Niamh

Last spot options:

17 N McEvoy 11 C Emonson 24 M Fitzsimon 25 I Simmons 13 M Kendall 21 M Caris

Inj: 6 D Pearce 7 S Sloane 23 S Goldrick 31 K Petrevski

Added Kate to ‘Our leaders’ list, oops

McEvoy would be the in for mine. Does not upset the structure which is the most important thing.

Can someone tell me if you can buy tickets to tomorrow's final on the day at Casey gate or can they only be purchased online?

All tickets are online as per Covid plans for AFLW.

Emonson got the nod to replace Daisy. I reckon it's the right call. McEvoy didn't impress me this year when she played.

MELBOURNE

B: L.Magee 26 L.Birch 9
HB: S.Heath 30 S.Lampard 8 M.Downie 2
C: C.Sherriff 18 E.Zanker 29 E.McNamara 22
HF: J.Parry 19 K.Hore 10 S.Scott 12
F: M.Gay 3 A.Bannan 16
Foll: L.Pearce 15 K.Paxman  C 4 T.Hanks 5
I/C: G.Colvin 32 C.Emonson 11 L.Mithen 14 T.Cunningham 1 B.Tarrant 20

Emerg: N.McEvoy 17 M.Fitzsimon 24

In:  C.Emonson
Out:  D.Pearce (knee)

I agree with Emonson. She can provide some run off the half backline. McEvoy fumbles too much.

Game day and I’m really looking forward to it.
I can’t decide between which team we are

a). We beat this team on their home patch just two weeks ago. We are the form team of the comp. We will have the home crowd. We should win ....... so like countless Melbourne teams before them they are bound to disappoint or

b). This Melbourne team has belief, a great structure and a hard edge that will see them come out on top.

They've proven over the last few weeks and in last year's semi-final v GWS that they have big hearts and plenty of fight. If we lose today it'll be because Freo were the better team on the day not because of any lack of effort or intent on our part.

Dees by 10 points.

It will be windy there today. Kicking to the southern end will be the case I imagine. Thats okay coz I am in zone 3 anyway.

GAME DAY!! finals are here after the disappointment of last year.

Daisy is a big loss but we can get this done.

cmon Demons!!

According to the Before the Bounce podcast Mick Stinnear has coached the most winning games of any AFLW coach with 25.
His overall win/loss record is 25/12 going at a very healthy 68%. As a general comparison (and I emphasise general) Clarkson and Hardwick go at 60% and 58% respectively. Goodwin is 49%
