No tribunal was ever finding Hawkins guilty. Too much doubt.

Daniel easily worth a week. Jetta maybe not a fine but whatever.

Cunnington the same as Zac Williams. A week for stupidity.

maybe i missed something, cunnington bump after disposal just worth a free kick i thought

at worst a fine, but not 1 week

Keeping it personal for our Number 1. He gets 1 week for the practice match tackle in his debut year down at Casey. No one injured, significant debate about the MRP...... In May 2021, May hospitalised with a fractured eye socket to miss 4 weeks due to elbow contact, accidental or not. No 26 (with 7 citations in 5 years - thanks Titus), gets the benefit of the doubt! My god, Gill’s organisation is corrupt.....or have I missed something???

Don't forget his antics last year.  Got a week suspension for a deliberate elbow to the head of an opponent, appealed and had it downgraded to careless and a fine.  Played the next match, elbowed someone in the head and got a week again.

Once again the AFL is demonstrating to the world that they have NFI how to run a league and their self-proclaimed integrity as an absolute joke.

The Cunnington one is line ball IMO. Bumping players late should be avoided. You risk hitting them in the head. But for that level of contact, surely a fine is sufficient.

Mitch Lewis suspended for a week so won't line up against us on Sunday.

MRP decisions have favoured us this year,

He’ll likely get it downgraded to a fine but it’s a clearly unnecessary bump and from the other angle it’s high.

Making it a week is the only way to stamp it out.

There would be no doubt if a no-name Melbourne player like Trengove or ANB were involved.

How strange that Hawkins doesn't get cited for his errant elbow yesterday that caused major damage to his opponent's face but gets 3 separate suspensions for puny jumper punches causing no damage whatsoever. And Dangerfield doesn't get cited for his errant elbow in last year's GF but instead gets 3 weeks suspension for an accidental clash of heads.

Perhaps errant elbowing has become a thing again in footy.

Bent elbow, deliberate, form, sore looser, self righteous repentant, shifty....

not all in the team, mind yu..

It’s the most unnatural arm movement as if he was searching for him.

And I thought the AFL regarded the head now as sacrosanct? If Dangerfield gets 3 weeks for an accidental clash of heads, Hawkins should get 3 weeks for an accidental elbow to someone's head

Did you see the incident? I haven’t, just wondering if they’ll appeal

no Lewis or Gunston - we might bring in a Hibberd this week for May. No need for another tall perhaps?

Probably jinxing us but it is really nice to see that we’ve been tough but disciplined so we aren’t seeing our players face tribunal scrutiny.

It’s because in the Danger one, he chose to bump so you take the consequences.

there is zero basis for Hawkins getting suspended. It was a pure accident

Sorry to say i can, from a long time ago relate to this "accidentally bent elbow", big Tribunal night that....

Exactly.

It was never going to fly as the expert panel on channel 7 had already deemed it unanimously as accidental.

I wouldn't say it was careless as he was quite careful on swinging that Elbow back with the intention to connect.

Just disgraceful. Typical AFL. Rules for some Rules for others.

Of those cited:  2 striking charges for a total of 2 weeks,  2 striking charges for total fines of $3500,  2 rough conduct & a tripping charge for total fines of $5000 and not one injury or blood split.

Hawkins throws a reckless elbow and fractures a players eye socket and not even a discussion. Might be a different story if he had hit him in the temple.   I wonder??

Is anyone really surprised.

I didn't see the incident.  From what Clarkson said last night I doubt they will appeal.

This weeks AFL word of the week "accidental", wonder they can spell it..

Anyone reckon Mitch Brown could be in trouble for his "dangerous tackle" in the first quarter? Was a free kick and looked as though Duryea's head made contact with the ground.

  • 1 month later...

If anyone needed any more evidence that the MRO system is absolutely broken right now, look no further than this round.

Nick Holman being given two weeks for a run-down tackle is the lowest ebb in the history of the MRO.

And it happens to come in the same week as Darcy Fogarty throws an elbow into Jake Lever's back, and that gets a fine.

Suspending a player for a tackle whilst fining a player for throwing an elbow.

Broken.

The AFL must fix this shambolic situation immediately.
