I’m feeling somewhat responsible for the close result as I started watching halfway through the 3rd quarter when Freo started their run. Apologies to all.

Super effort to hang on in the heat and away from home. The umpires were TERRIBLE. There’s no explanation for that free to Freo in their i50 in the last 30 seconds, and the with 11secs to go the umpire doesn’t call time back on for the ball up in the Freo attacking goal square. It’s a hard game to umpire for all the interpretation, but that was a joke.

And lastly the Melbourne runner that gave away 50 metres for interference should be exiled forever.

Great fighting win girls, you all did the jumper proud.

35° heat, a hostile crowd, in Perth, some ‘inconsistent’ umpiring decisions, against a team sitting 2nd on the ladder who doesn’t get beaten at home. And we roll them.
It must give the team great confidence to get that win. I, like I’m sure many here, thought we would get run over towards the end but we gutsed it out. This team has some character.

And to the AFL, who has manipulated a Carlton fixture that has included ALL the bottom teams whilst we have played ALL the top teams, put that in your pipe and smoke it! We are playing finals baby!!

I thought our season was going down in flames after the pies fiasco but credit to the team and coaching staff we’ve really turned it around.

The move of Daisy to full forward has been inspired. Her poise was the difference today dribbling the 4th goal and setting up Gay for the winner.

I doubt we’ll improve our ladder position so most likely inter-state finals. It’ll take a herculean effort to win it from here but after the grit and fight we’ve shown the last 2 weeks I wouldn’t back against us.

Go Dees.

Great win against a top quality side in the heat. Lauren.Pearce, McNamara and Gay were fantastic. Looking forward to the finals.

What a win!  Fancy snatching the lead back away at Fremantle.  A few bad misses at goal for us today but no matter, we’re in the 6 and will play finals.

Unfortunately it looks like hammy for Goldie. It would be great if Downie is finally fit to come back.  There isn’t anyone else available.

Paxy, L Pearce, McNamara and Gay were best for us.  That’s 3 wins against top 6 sides so get stuffed Carlton and AFL for trying to manipulate results for purposes other than pure football.  Go Dees girls!

An outstanding win by our girls.  Showed true Demon grit and determination to come back, and then hold on when the odds were stacked against them.  Very proud of them!  Capped off a great weekend for for the red and blue faithful.

Gutsy win. Especially given that a good chunk of our midfield in Zanker, Hanks & Mithen were down on their normal production. So there's scope for improvement on today's effort. Huge games from McNamara, Gay & Paxman.

I want to give a shout out to a few defenders. The loss of Cordner to Richmond, Downie to injury and the pretty ordinary form (by her standards) of Libby Birch this year could have left a massive hole in our backline. The combination of Gabby Colvin, Casey Sherriff & Brenna Tarrant have improved week on week. Not only defending but setting up scoring chains as well. They're a huge part of why we'll play finals

Great game to watch them live, first time too, as the last time they came to Perth I was elsewhere.  They stuffed a few things and didn't play smart going into the 50 the last time, should have played it dead into the pocket not centre it.  Though till the runner incident it was okay.

We (demon supporters) at the ground were a bit disappointed as the team didn't come over and say hi to their supporters after the match (even from a distance from the fence), or even sing the song in that part of the ground.  The men would have come over.  Maybe they don't think of things like that yet?

Lastly after most the ground was going, the Freo PA was blaring saying how wellthe freo girls play and don't worry they be having finals in freo and keep supporting them. etc, really weird.  Never heard that before at any afl match.

Great day and a stressful last  minute as we obviously didn't know exactly how much time was left.

When we started missing the easy goals, our confidence dropped a bit and we let Freo in.

We need to keep the scoreboard pressure up.

They have to work on the kick outs after the point is scored by the opposition. Can't allow those repeat entries.

Lock it in on the wings and fight harder to move it forward, if we miss the link ups.

The critical mistake was giving up that goal in the lad5 30 seconds of the 3rd.

We had done super well to hold freo off and keep the lead a 3 goals.

That mistake got it back to two goals and gave freo momentum coming into the last.

Gritty win.  Freo were great in the 2nd half but also our girls appeared to tire in the heat which is understandable.  Aside from ruckman Pierce, Paxman (BOG) and Gay up forward they lost their structure/composure and run.  Also stopped hitting up shorr targets and working their way up the field as they did so well in the first quarter and a bit and went with too many bail out kicks.

They also need to hit up a few shorter targets with the kick ins on occasions.  To predictable bombing it to 50 far too often where the opp just set up and picked them off shallow only to see the ball come straight back into the hot zone for more shots at goal.

Unfortunately it looks like hammy for Goldie.

A real bummer.

Love the way she plays.

And it is crazy how much her kicking has improved this season (which interestingly is a feature of many of the men recruited form Ireland - I'm convinced it is because they haven't had a lifetime of rubbish technique to overcome a AFL level).

If I was Goodie i'd show the men's team the vison of the incident Goldy did her hammy. Inspirational.

Was caught out the back and with her desperate chase and final lunge at the freo player.

Saved a sure goal as if the Freo player had been able to collect that ball would have run inti an open goal.

We might well have lost the game, and perhaps a shot at flag if not for her desperation. Fantastic stuff.

Gutsy win! Go dees! I'm just glad Schofield has to eat his words a bit.

The most biased commentary l have heard in years. Had to turn it down eventually and watched in silence - not from me obviously. Great win girls. Now l think a chance for the flag given their current rate of improvement....

True, but credit where credit is due, they did guts it out with a fighting win - something we can not always say about Demon sides post 2018. Well done girls - you are showing the way!

I didn't have the pleasure of watching the game, but that is a fantastic result for the players and the club. I was pleased when I saw our draw for the last three weeks, because it gave us the opportunity to control our own destiny. Now they must have the belief that they can genuinely challenge for the premiership over the next month. Beat Brisbane and we may well finish top four, which gives us a home semi final. From there, anything is possible.

We have a huge chance this week to push for a home final. Looks like Meg Downie has now played two ressies games so she should be the replacement for Goldy (who will be a loss for sure but Downie is a handy replacement).

Brisbane are a good side but definitely beatable on our current form and at home.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
