One of his worst games I've seen him play, good to know we can still win with him playing poorly thoughย

VERY small sample but midfield dynamics seem to have gone backwards under Yze. Hope there is a method to his madness

They were talking about this on the Fox coverage.ย  Yze is trying to get them to focus less on winning the ball and more on how they are going to get the ball out of the stoppage.ย  I think that's fair since we have been consistently bad at this for years.ย  Obviously they are still struggling to find the balance.ย  Also, many of those hitouts missed their target by a minute amount.ย  It's going to take very little for the chemistry to click and they will be getting those connections right and hopefully have a better idea of what comes next as well.ย

I reckon the club should get a please clarify from the umpires dept on the Hunt in the back free that gave Freoย a goal and the Salem dangerous tackle free (both in the first half). I thought neither were there (potentially biased)

We were smashed in the clearances but wonย the game. Go figure.

Was great to see Yze's coaching paying off already with Langdon's banana on the run goal in the first. Freo fans must have been thinking when the hell has he ever been able to kick like that!

The Salem one was probably there. A bit soft but he did turn him which could've been seen as a slinging motion. Can't remember Hunts specifically but do remember thinking it was weak at the time. We probably got away with a couple as well k didn't think the umpires were terrible which is about as good as it gets with them usually.

I'd be adding the free to Serong at the start of the 3rd quarter.ย  I'm in the middle of the replay here and I still can't see how he got a free.ย  He had the ball, he was tackled and just let it dribble out of his hand.ย  It's either HTB or play on if they think he didn't have prior opportunity.ย

Just watched it again to be sure.ย  He grabbed the ball in both hands before he was tackled.ย  No possible way that was a free to him.ย

The Hunt in the back was never a free kick. I think the umpire just made a terrible decision.

Very soft Gonzo imv. If you were to pay all those there would be a lot of free kicks per game.

i thought the umpiring was poor full stop - both sides either copped bizarre frees against or didn't get paid obvious frees for

i think this is part of the issue of being 'off broadway' - the 'better' maggots officiate the bigger games

Quoting this post but have seen it mentioned multiple times in this thread

Freo were not injury riddled. They had a couple of key players out, same as us. They still had a top notch midfield in there in Fyfe, Mundy, Brayshaw, Cerra.

Cerra? His 3 career brownlow votes obviously makes him an a grader,

Iโ€™m not one to have a go at the umps, itโ€™s a tough job, but some of the decisions today were woeful.

i was sitting with a freo fan and we were agreeing on more frees that were / weren't paid than the maggots

There was a lot of head scratching going on.

How about the Tom mcdonald 50m penalty 10 mins into the first quarter, that was a gift for us. The poor umpiring went both waysย

We still get drawn to the ball...it's a big problem.

Watching the dogs last night, they spread and give options.

They do it so well.

We have a long way to go.

6 of the 9 first round games finished, and we're STILL on top of the ladder!ย ย

If only 3 games left then no matter what we are in the top 4 at the end of the round.

An unbelievable result with only 22 rounds to go.

TMAC was good today. I think when both Brown and Weideman come back in, that we will see long searching leads up the ground from TMAC, and that will be a headache for opposing teams to match up. Brown is of similar type in that he leads up the ground, is a hard match up physically. Itโ€™s going to be near on impossible for opposition teams to combat our 4 talls. Combine this with crumbing forwards weโ€™ve acquired lately - itโ€™s going to look much different in 6 weeks.

Today was a poor performance. But I will reserve judgement about our improvement over the offseason until we have more pieces. Midfield needs to improve and start using the best tap ruck in the league. Itโ€™s embarrassing we lose matches out of the middle. Puts May and Lever up against it.ย

my vibe is that, once weed and sideshow bob are backย plugger mac and jackson will be wingmen - their energy and gut running will be vital on the bigger spaces of the g - the problem might well be that t mac in particular is prone to sloppy field kicking

i disagree that our performance was poor - i think the swirling wind had a significant impact on both team's skills todaym as did some bog ordinary decision making from the maggots

what was pleasing is that we got smashed in clearances yet still run out fairly comfortable winners - it goes to show the nature of the change that our mids are trying to implement this season

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
