As good a player is Gawny is, check the stats on our ability to win the ball from stoppages. He's hitting it, but for whatever reason, we aren't dominating clearances. There's a real lack of cohesion in there.

I'm all for Gawn spending 2 or 3 centre bounces a quarter in our square, hoping we win the clearance and then releasing him up the ground.

Gawn is more valuable back as the intercept tall. He also commands the ball from the kick in. I wouldn't have him ruck forward of centre.

Daw could add some flexibility in a role with max and dogga.

Maxis the #1 ruckman in the league and the best option for us right now.

Perhaps max can be a full forward target in 2025-2026 when max is 35 and tiring and Jacko has assumed the #1 ruck role.

i couldn't handle the mental torture of watching max take a 25m set shot from direct in front

so, no

Can he kick that distance?  Never seen it.

yeah let's take our AA ruckman and move him to the forward line where he can kick behinds with his shocking kick for goal. brilliant.

With Daw a likely starter at the Dees we can use him in tandem with Jackson freeing Max to play a forward role.

The captain would be a target who'd require a lot of attention from oppo key backs and provide chances for our smaller players.

We can do without him at the centre bounce in particular.

I think Maxy needs min 30%+ time at FF and know that it's on the cards, if his kicking for goal improvement stays, it could he a genuine ace in the hole. But I still can't see SG pulling trigger, he has always seen it as an abhorrent idea and inexorably, it seems our fwd line will consist of Jackson, TMac, Pickett - Fritsch, Brown, Spargo w/Jones, Trac, Melk, Baker flowing through.

I expect to see either Laurie or Bowey to do cameos If they make the team early doors. Rosman might also.
I think given all the injuries we will come up with a varied and versatile group of forwards.

If this was a thing then North would have rotated Mckernan and whoever their other ruckman was at FF in the 90s every game.

Sounds too logical for Goodwin. I like it though!

Suddenly I feel like Goodwin's position is safe.

Just to clarify the suggestion:

As our ruck, we're going to play a 195cm key position defender and occasional forward who has only had four games in his career with more than 20 hitouts, has only played more than 10 games in a season once, and (while giving full credit to his recovery effort) has serious injury history in parts of the body that are particularly vulnerable when playing in ruck.

So that a multiple-All-Australian ruckman with super fitness and field positioning awareness for around-the-ground marking that is frequently crucial to the play can be moved to full forward to make the most possible use of his iffy set shots.

That plan would work if (a) Max could kick and (b) we had another ruckman on our list.

The issues with this idea have been well covered but I'd just add that your initial premise regarding Majak is probably not all that likely either.

If our current list of available players remain fit, Daw shouldn't play a game, even if he receives a contract.

One of the stupidest ideas I've heard in a long time. Guy has some of the best tap work around and you'd like to send him forward so he can bottle more set shots? Please

One of the issues that I think Goodwin has had during his time at Melbourne is his lack of creativity and flexibility when something different needs to be done.

Max to FF for a regular move would be counter productive to our midfield however I do think that some longer stints there could be a good idea. I love a goal kicking ruckman and Max has improved his kicking a lot since that dreaded Geelong game.

As has been pointed out though he does a huge body of work as an intercept marker in defence. So are we robbing ourselves down back?

Why do you think Majak was recruited? Also don't you rate Jacko's work on the ball?
