3 out of four 1st choice KP players either ruled out or doubtful for early games - I'd say glass half empty was the mindset but only Sisso will be able to confirm

Whatever it was doesn't really matter - our stocks are low and unfortunately TMac continues to struggle so we need help

Mainly just by the time he's ready to play Brown and the Weed will probably be available so I don't know where he fits - that plus the good footy he has played at AFL level has been as a defender but with May and Lever is there a spot for him? I don't rate him as a ruckman or forward...I think he kicked 6 in a game once but that was a very long time ago

Saw Majak, Deakyn and Kozzie hanging around together at the practice game. They looked like a tight little group. Congrats Majak and Deakyn.

Saw Oscar too, watching his old mates. Told us Carlton had signed him up. Looked pretty relieved and happy. Good luck, Oscar.

Looks like an apprenticeship in soccer, the ease with which he taps and re-taps the ball from below the knee ... skills for ground pick-up identified by PFence in his training reports. Hands seem fairly certain gripping this 'funny-shaped' ball known as the mighty Aussie Rules pill. Is there no end to this man's potential?

I know fairy tails only happen to the Bulldogs and Richmonds of this world but wouldn’t it be nice if this fella can have a major break out season after the adversity he’s been through.

We gave a Bennell a chance, it didn’t work out. Hopefully we’re due some good karma with this one.

if majak is match-ready, i'm actually not opposed to playing both - t mac spent the whole summer, or at least the first two-thirds of it, training to play the wing...

round 1, maybe?
B: Rivers - May - Lever
HB: Hunt - Tomlinson - Salem
C: Langdon - Petracca - McDonald
HF: Fritsch - Jackson - Neal-Bullen
F: Chandler - Daw - Pickett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes
I/c: Spargo - Brayshaw - Hibberd - vandenBerg
Emerg: Bowey - Laurie - Baker - Petty

if they play brayshaw they play hibberd and i expect avb to be picked too; you'd presume as long as they got thru a game and a half of competitive football, even at vfl level, they will be picked as they're important to the way we want to play

i'm pretty worried about taking all three of them, plus an underdone pickett and a hamstrung salem, into the game - but i'd prefer them to any of the players i've got in the emergency line - we tend to debut a player in rd 1 and bowey seems the likely candidate if one of salem or hibberd don't get up

i expect they'll back in tomlinson to keep 'playing his role' - he's the obvious candidate for demonland 'whipping boy' in 2021 - but i'm hoping petty can take the role the likes of astbury plays for the tigers for us longer term

From what I have seen at Training and in view of what he did yesterday in the practice match, If I were the match commitee I would definately roll the Dice and play him next week vs Freo! No doubt in my mind he is ready! Some serious X factor at play, Freo would not be expecting it and it really stretches them down back!

Or just continue to play Tmac for another 8 weeks until he gains some form!

We are severely undermanned up forward, get him in ASAP!

Do you have any confidence he'll be able to play more than 2 quarters of "AFL home and away footy" before he runs out of gas? If he can't then he can't be selected.

Not that I think he is even a remote chance to play early, but if he can play 2 x 8 minute blocks each quarter, that would make him eligible, given the rotation limits. How fit do you have to be to do that is the question. With LJ and Max playing, that further reduces his chances, as we know Max will play forward a bit more, while BB and Weid are missing. Realistically he has been added to the list as insurance for Max and LJ.

He may be insurance for BB, Weid and Tmac also.  I am not sure it is purely ruck insurance.  With BB and Weid down Tmac has become our focal point again.  Daw chases, and can take a mark and kick a goal.  Always thought he has had great presence about him, would like to see him forward early in the season myself.  Small stints in the ruck with Max switching occasionally to Forward could really help our cause especially before BB/Weid return.

Agree with various other posters that it's highly unlikely Majak is AFL match fit.

There's a world of difference snagging 4 goals in a VFL practice match and an AFL match.

He won't be selected for Round 1. Or possibly the next few rounds.

Thanks for the confidence boost, PF! I agree with your sentiments and this form improvement - despite his age, lack of match practices over time, his disappointments and his strident efforts with the mighty Demons in just a small space of limited time, he does seem ready for the dice roll #1with the other big boys. Been tracking your comments on training and Majak's progress has been a highlight. Bewdy, Newk!

I think ur right there Demonstone. I keep going back to fixtures to see the year I saw  him and am still not sure. I only know it was at Junction oval as I was  given a free seasons ticket for the day by our school and sat right behind the goals. The S aints were so good in that game. :)

the coaches wont do it because it's a tough decision and they seem to have a problem making those and seem to have forgotten that mcdonald was on the trade table and so so average last year but its blatantly obvious that he doesn't do enough to impact games ever and just gets a pass coz he lost some weight

MFC Selection are nearly always "Safe" we choose players who MIGHT play well and hardly ever go for a bold, gutsy move. I dont think Majak is unfit either and if he juust happens to get a sniff early , and stretch the Dockers defence then well worth the gamble, Very well worth it IMO. Which means they probably won't go for it because we are a safe, non risk taking club. I'd pick DAW and Mc Donald and Jackson and really put the cat among the pigeons. JUST DO IT!

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
