Thank you.

If Hibberd doesn't play much this year he may struggle to get a new contract.  Agree with others but the club may want to keep options open and offer 1 year in some cases.   I would probably put Jordon up there on priority signing especially as he is an RFA this year (due to being delisted then rookied last year) and depending on how he plays I would like to see Weideman continue with us but right now he wouldn't be a top priority.

definitely not an RFA, he's just a FA so no ability to match but can't see him wanting to go anywhere or any clubs really throwing any more coin at him than we'll offer as he's a pretty bog standard next tier midfielder which every club would have developing on their list already, i'd still expect an upgrade to the senior list tho

I meant FA as inferred by the description.

Updated for my Equal #1 favourite player:  Christian Salem.

5 year contract.  A demon until 2026.

My top 3 signings for this year:  Oliver, Gawn and Salem are all wrapped up!

Next lot:

  • Luke Jackson:  sign in 2021 to extend beyond next year - will cut out any noise of him returning to WA next year.
  • Sam Weideman:  see if he can earn a new contract.
  • Christian Petracca:  Not too worried about him now that Oliver and Salem have signed but would like him to sign sooner rather than later to forgo Free Agency and stop the nonsense that he is going to Collingwood.
  • Angus Brayshaw: also  OOC and FA next year - not sure where he sits in the pecking order but would love to see him stay a demon.

Hey, why would any of our players want to leave!

Edited by Lucifer's Hero

Thanks LH you are super quick. Great work!!!

I'm really rapt with how this all sits.

Having Gawn, Oliver, Viney, Lever, May, Salem, Langdon, B Brown, Pickett, Rivers and Tomlinson all signed up to at least the end of 2023 is really good work IMO.

Now to work on Petracca, Fritsch and Jackson.

The 2022 out-of-contract list is an interesting one. I don't really want to lose any of them on current form and in my view only Melksham and McDonald are at risk due to age and fluctuations in form. Both could easily earn contracts beyond then however. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few one year contracts given to fringe players to have a delisting buffer for next year.

We are heading for a time of great list stability and as you say some 1 year contracts to a many of 2021 OOC players.  The ones that a likely to miss out are those with a history of injuries:  Hore, J. Smith, AvB; Nietschke or time to retire:  Jetta and Jones (even tho it will be sad to see them go)..  That is 6 changes without too much thought.  Baker, M. Brown, Daw may not get another go.  Just those changes will make our list stronger and then there are trades.

Only 1 real priority to sign now is Weiderman.

which is a hard one to claim as a priority when we can't even get him into the senior team. But I agree I see him as a priority signing for the club's future. Would be nice to sign at least one of Bedford or Chandler by the end of the year too. I think both have a future at the club, and will play a role this year given the chance!

luci, could i suggest you have a chat with mods such that when you update your excellent chart that the chart at the start of page 1 also gets updated (much like the membership thread). Makes it easier to quickly find the latest chart

Good idea.  'George' is a mod so he is able to edit and update the membership thread.

The chart is an embedded image so it would be difficult to update and keep the formatting.

An option might be for me to have open ended 'edit' facility for this thread but perhaps not technically possible and I copy the latest to the start of the thread.

Or the mods may find a way to copy and 'lock' the latest version to the start of the thread.

I would like to also keep the updates in the body of the thread so the on-going dialogue makes sense, especially to infrequent readers.

@Demonlandwhat do you think the options might be?

Yes, easy to copy into a new post at the end of a thread.

But I do not have access rights to 'edit' the first post or insert the latest table at the start of the thread.

i understand that.....that's why i said you'd need the mods to give you access rights or some other solution

Four long term chronic injury players could be delisted at seasons end. A few others Hibberd and ANB likely to be re-signed

Melbourne have managed their list well.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
