He contacted Goody and asked if he could come onboard. Can't recall if Chocco actually named the position. Just said that he offered to work at MFC and was knocked back. Pretty sure I heard it on SEN, probably with Lyon and Watson.... you might be able to find it if you search long and deep enough.

Wasn't it the role we ended up giving to Richo?

Thanks Grr

Not suprised Goody said no and look how thats turned out.

How things have changed. It would be interesting to know if Pert and co have laid down the law so to speak to Goody and have said you need Chocco on board whether you want it or not or if Goody has realised he may need assistance because this is his last chance and what he has done previously has not worked properly.

Time will tell.

Might just have been case there was no position, then Egan moving on/moved on opened it up, but, yeah, I'd reckon we all hope it's cause smart people are making wise decisions....

With the full review, we have taken some big steps. If we can get the best out of Richardson, Williams, Goody and Yze, you would have to think that is a pretty strong group to lead the club.  Getting these guys to have clearly marked out territories and actively supporting each other will be a challenge, but the potential is huge if it works. No egos, but a common goal of success will be nice.

Echoing the rest of this thread, really excited about Williams' appointment. I wonder if Mahoney's leaving will open up some soft cap space for another coach in there? Say a strategy coach...

Doesn't Yze already have that role?

I see the framework for a great succession plan- if needed.

Yze first senior gig, with Choco offeering wisdom and experience as needed as well as ratcheting up talent developemnt big time

Agreed. Both Chocko and Ooze have the runs on the board from respective past experience - this is a win for the MFC - that will make negation from Goodwin next to impossible. He does not ask for advice from his coaching peers, it seems; neither does he seem reactive to salient reasoning from all around him, including fans and members.

It's an in-built succession plan to open Goodwin's eyes and thinking processes for the better. It might also act as a gate opener so he can find his way back to Adelaide, sooner than expected.

What rot Bimbo...I would certainly have more - but we stuffed up getting Tomlinson , especially for the dough we are paying him - thanks to Mahoney.

Are you angry we are paying Tommo  "overs in your eyes" or that he is not a wingman but a IMO One of the Very valuable versatile players that can ruck, defend (3rd tall) and fill in down forward, plus perform as a winger at a pinch.

I believe he lasted at GWS and played many games because he plays a team game and that is very valuable. He also concentrates and competes well.

A good one in the trenches so to speak.

Will grow on fans once they hive him a chance and not go an Oscar on him for lack of pace.

Another aspect of Williams wanting to, and now joining the MFC is that he’s an astute gauge of football talent and potential, and saw he could not only add value, but that there was sufficient talent there to go all the way.

augers well

As I understand it, many motivated and ambitious people in the football community see MFC as a kind of mystery to be solved.

I've invented a custard-based thick shake called the Chocco Ooze.

Further reflection; two things that make me confident that Williams is an ideal choice.

1. At Port he was able to keep the team united and motivated and playing league-best football for consecutive seasons despite heartbreaking finals experiences. That stability of effort is priceless and something crucially missing from our culture.

2. At about the time Richmond recruited him I was looking over their B&F lists to confirm a hunch that they had barely had any movement or new arrivals in the better half of their list for some five years or more. Shortly after his arrival there was a surge of contribution from previously minor young players who stepped up to consistent quality AFL standard and made appearances in the club's top ten. Lifting that 'pawns' group is another crucial part that we are missing from our list and culture.

Somewhere along the way the MFC leaders have set about rationally assessing what we need and then determining how to get it. People decry the Lever trade but if nothing else it marks a turning point where the club began to pursue greatness instead of minimizing risk.

My expectation is that Jake will improve much further agsin this year and at 24 hr has the ability and time   to repay the faith . I have this premonition he takes 4 marks in the last quarter of the Grannie to save us the game and win us the flag. Please don't tell me he can't do that when he is full of form and confidence.

Many see us as an underperforming flaky and unreliable football team.

That  is Perfectly changeable with coaching recruiting and attention to the 1% ers.

With Yooze Choco Goody  and Richo there are no excuses for brain fades lairising and player egos. Harry O would not survive in this environment and I don't expect any of our fair weather players to either.

I love the fact that Williams has been trying to land a role at Melbourne for what appears to be 3 years now and has finally got it. He clearly see's something in us and wants to be part of our success! The same can be said for Green and Yze, they all want to be at the club and will give their all to see us finally win our 13th cup. No doubt about it, these next 5 years we will be right in contention and hopefully we can do a Richmond win 3 very long overdue Premierships.

I am almost  crying at the thought of3 Cups not 1 or 2 but THREE !!!

Five years of success if we get it right!

That is exactly what Williams said in the interview. The Dees then called him for the role.

Four would put us equal with Blues and Bombers but we really need 5 to lead outright

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
