Are you feeling anxious @Hogan2014

You know trade time is about negotiations? Which is time consuming? Which is about the previous fostering of relationships both with 'said' player and incumbents at other clubs to get trades done.

Slow motion isn't inactive... we've got great recent history.

Saints aint the bench mark... and quite frankly if you're benchmarking trade time, you're focused on the wrong thing.

Lockhart couldn't get a game ahead of Joel.Smith in the end so no. Salem can play back pocket if you don't want to play him back pocket replace him with either Rivers, Hibberd or Hore who I think is the next cab off the rank I rate him ahead of Joel.Smith.

WDEE

There is more upside and pace and run With Lockhart Who cares that he didn't get a run in the last few games that's Goody and his selection.

Smithy  did ok I thought so us improving but BP is too deep for Salem and I reckon the forward line or wing are better spots to Make use of his excellent disposal.

Not all the options Are interchangeable and we need a Jetta replacement that's why I  like Lockhart and for eg Hore is  hard to place and is really a Lever replacement as an interceptor.

Hibbo is back this year Was a good one and form and fitness Fine. Riv again I feel is a better HB flanker than a BP.

We May have a good selection of mediums but need Petty or if Tom Mac finds form if he isn't poached.

I also like Tommo as a third tall and he also improved thus season with specific roles on opp like Cameron.

Reckon after Pruess and Hannan go we may have a trade pick we can sneak a Stepho or Polec and maybe get further near a first round draft pick fir a classy runner with good disposal to help our mids and forwards .

Dan Hannebery.

Their biggest recruit was Brett Ratten. He gets it.

I reckon our list is better than theirs.

i see the saints as around about the same as us tbh

midfield is reasonably even:
gawn - marshall & ryder / mckernahan
petracca - steele
oliver - brouch
viney - hannebery
brayshaw - ross
langdon - hill

i'd take our backline over theirs:
may - howard
lever - carlisle
tomlinson - wilkie
salem - coffield
hibberd - geary
rivers - long

i'd probably take our forward line over theirs:
brown - king
weideman - membrey
jackson - ryder / mckernahan & marshall
fritsch - gresham
pickett - butler
hunt - billings

where i think they are better than us is in experienced depth:
harmes - z jones
avb - battle
spargo - kent
baker - sinclair

Interesting read. I think we both suffer from a similar flaw in that our midfielder are all far too similar, Petracca the obvious point of difference.

In terms of forwards. Brown is the best proven performer but it's hard to know if he'll quite get back to his best, Membrey imo is very underrated. a very consistent performer. and i think the Saints are MUCH better at ground level than us.

I think the Saints also comfortably have us covered in terms of system and chemistry. they just look like a really well coached team these days.

agree completely PH we have holes in the list and we have erratic performers throughout the list who seem to choose when to turn up

This must be eradicated from the playing group in my opinion if we are to progress from 9th

Dont start me on Membrey

If were not trying to bring in a Phillips or a Higgins type then we will be treading water for a third year in a row.

agreed.

To not start throwing serious offers to fast wingers or a small forward is not moving with the times.

We have no dynamic pace outside of Langdon. We should be getting one or two more or we wont be challenging the big boys.

If Stephenson was available I'd be throwing the kitchen sink at him.

But to sit back and say ah well no Issac Smith (who could drop off in one year anyway) then we really should develop our faster players is very disappointing.

The Saints have picked the eyes out of the last 2 trade and draft windows.

While our efforts were very good last year they have been excellent in bring in the players who've complemented the way they want to play.

Reckon the Saints have brought in bulk B-graders on good coin & it'll hurt them down the track

The one A-trader they brought in did SFA for them this year. Ratten needs to give Hill a rocket given the coin he is on.

We will have Hannan, Preuss and probably Tmc to give us extra picks and should have bargaining power to get a Phillips and or Narkle into the club.

Mahoney must have watched a different team in 2020. No more runners needed?  Ffs

We fixed the wing on one side through getting Ed Langdon.

We need another midfield runner for the other wing. You can’t rely on Baker or Hunt. Phillips is going to be available and is a perfect fit.

Maybe Mahoney already has one foot out the door.

Any chance we can get both feet?  How many successful years has he been with us?

We have them for top end midfield talent, but need to get more from that advantage.

Their backline is clearly superior. May's the best defender of the group and Salem is up there but Wilkie, Clark, Carlisle, Howard, Paton, Coffield, Long are way better than our 3-7th defenders. They have 7 competent AFL defenders with a 2 talls, 2 mediums, 3 good smalls balance. Our best 7 defenders features probably 3 question marks.

The forward line could be a similar tale where Ben Brown might be the most accomplished but Butler, King, Membrey et al form a far more consistent group.

We need a little internal development to catch up and then we probably need a year adding a few pieces. I get the feeling we probably know that but we want to spend a year getting the cap in order and the coaching right before we try to fill holes.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
