No one gets everything right all the time and JT has a great strike rate.

When drafted he was seen as an exciting talent. It just hasn’t happened for him.

Agree with other posters, that he is a lovely guy to meet, but of course we don’t want lovely guys, we want great footballers.

PS: did we ever try him down back?

I don't believe we did.Perhaps Essendon will but I guess they basically got him for junk pics so maybe they will just move on

Get serious, we are talking about  “better” than footy.

They gotta give him a different role. He just doesn’t have the confidence to be the big forward. Gotta give him a crack in defence.

Nothing you can do about hateful social media comments. Best thing is to stay away from Insta, twitter and all the rest of them until your career is finished.

Ignoring the socials is indeed a way to escape the disgusting bile and hatred. However, it’s difficult when the vile comments come from your own “fans.” For example (and on a much smaller scale), on DL I have a bitter, nasty poster on ignore yet I am still subjected to his vitriol whenever someone quotes him.

There’s no way to fully avoid the pathetic losers online.

Oh, you’re Mary Poppins compared to the cretin to whom I refer. At least you’re overtly bitter and twisted.

I feel for the young man. its a brutal industry and the KPF is the toughest positions to play. Its also a tough process for recruitment teams.

However, I do wonder whether there were any concerns regarding his footy IQ and competitive nature. I don't know Sam and can only go by what we see on the field, but it does seem that he is lacking in these areas despite having all the required skills, technique and athleticism, which is what compelled the team to pick him in the first place.

It is what it is and unfortunately he wont be the first or last player that 'nearly' turned the competition on its head.

CHOOKS! Pet chooks are the solution to the world’s ills. Everyone needs a pet chook or 10. It’s a tough gig having pets so far down the food chain but totally worth it. Today my Melksy and Harmesy will be front and centre on the couch with me watching the replay. Feathered Melksy has already seen human Melksy’s amazing mark and winning goal many times on my phone but like me, she’ll gladly watch it again and again.

Saw some pretty horrible and personal comments last night from Bombers supporters on social media directed at Weideman.

That's really sad 'dazz'...

He might not be a great player but he's certainly a good one to have made AFL level.

I would guess that none of the supporters getting stuck into him have played an AFL game and probably haven't played at any reasonable level.

Haven't met Sam but he seems a good guy from all reports.

As everyone knows. I have always been a  doubter on Sam from very early on. I feel very sorrow for him. I hope he gives it away and finds other things in life. There are lots Sam

Like doing Special Comments on Demonland, for example. No one knows l thought that.

It doesn’t matter if he’s a star or bog ordinary, nobody, and I mean nobody, deserves to be personally abused.

It was awful when Melbourne supporters did it, and nothing has changed now that Essendon supporters are doing it.

People need to take a good hard look at themselves. If that was your kid copping this garbage, you’d be disgusted and heartbroken. Sam has always done his best. Football is a damn hard industry and not everyone succeeds. But most people don’t have the talent or the guts to even try. Those that do deserve the basic level of respect from the fat losers in the stands.

Quite right Jaded and well said.

I actually know his Dad and I can tell you they are a super giving family (still help out the younger teams down at Vermont Eagles) and all round nice people. Sam is a very well mannered and humble young man and any of us would be proud of the person he is if he was our son.

Sam Weideman was a strong contributer to winning finals.

No Essendon player has done that since before this year's draft crop was born.

Isn't it tempting to fry them when their namesakes let you down on occasion?

Oh come on, when the lockdown was on, you weren't really hungry at times.

Alright, I take it back. Sorry.

With respect, try telling that to the families and friends of ppl who couldn’t take it and did the unthinkable. Besides, a thick skin can’t just be magicked up outta nowhere. It’s innate so there’ll always be “thin-skinned” folks.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
