I’d rather bank the $$ and chase more class, like Merrett next year.

Treloar is a good player, but his delivery is his biggest weakness, and we don’t need more of that atm, especially on big $$.

If Collingwood are desperate enough about their salary cap dumping then they need to lower their expectations in trade compensation. They've made their bed, time to suffer the consequences of bad list management.

i’d happily rather a good bloke like treloar with speed and skill that’s perhaps 5% less a player (delivery-wise) than merrett..talk about a punchable head! i am actually not sure there’s too much different between the two - one has blonde hair and one brown

Besides playing for Essendon, which admittedly is pretty severe, I’m not sure what Zac Merrett has done wrong.

I would take him every day of the week over Treloar.

And 5% less delivery wise? I think you missed a zero.

Merrett and Treloar are both very good players but Merrett is 2.5 years younger so is a more attractive option.

Is Merret available in any way?Or is this just dreaming

And Merrett is a free agent.

Restricted free agent next year I believe, and there were rumours he wanted out this year, but Essendon stamped that out pretty quick.

He would be the perfect compliment to our midfield imo, but there will be plenty of competition to get him if he decides to leave.

Thanks FD so we could make a play this year for the right deal

Don’t know Merretts game well but isn’t he an inside mid only? With good skills. He would add to our list of players wanting minutes on the ball.

id prefer Whitfield or Kelly to play on the outside

i'd happily trade out some of our average surplus mids like Harmes and AVB and free up the money to bring in Treloar.

Treloar has burst speed which they lack and he'd add another dimension to make our midfield instantly more dangerous.

Cannot hit targets we need that like a hole in the head. Grossly over paid by Collingwood I hope they are stuck with him.

But they don't get paid $1 million PA for the next four years.

that's because they're not as good as Treloar. I agree that his current contract is overvalued, but i dare say he could be got for cheaper than that.

He has a contract that has to be honoured. Any team that takes him has to pay it less whatever Collingwood would supplement. Why is no one rushing to get him?

because teams are smart and waiting to see how low the Pies will go when they get desperate to move him on later next week.

Treloar turns 28 in March 2021 so the 5 seasons left on his Pies contract covering his 28 to 32 year old seasons. He's had recent history of significant soft tissue injuries. His contract pays him above market terms based on his ability and recent availability and it runs for another 5 seasons till he turns 32.

Hard to see how Pies can shift him unless they agree to cover ballpark $1,000,000 of his contract over remaining 5 years. Or a combination of Pies subsidy and Treloar agreeing to take a pay cut (Why would he?). Pies have next  to no hand. Treloar can say no to a trade and force Pies to honour contract or tell them which Melbourne based club he has agreed to go to and with which they make a trade. Salary dumps are common in salary cap sports but a salary cap dump of a contract that has 5 seasons to run requires a special kind of stupid.

What a salary cap cluster seemingly caused by above market contracts post 2018 Grand Final and unplanned for trading back in of Beams. The later requiring the disastrous  extension for Treloar to push back money to fit Beams in. Overpayed Grundy and signed him till 2027 ie his 33 year old season. Pendlebury in 33 year old season in 2021 and I'd suspect he is still in upper echelon of player contracts despite being past his prime.

Good luck Pies. OK. Not really.

It’s probably already been stated or asked in this thread but didn’t he re-jig his contract upon request from Collingwood so they could squeeze a couple of players into their salary cap? Now that deal is starting to hurt them they want him gone. Incredible (if true).

Beautiful Reading ?

Trelaor will be paid out, no other Club is going to touch that situation if they have an ounce of intelligence.
This could stuff the Filth for years

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
