TMac on the Trade Table?

Doesn't worry me that we are getting little back. The compensation out of this trade will be the signing of Ben Brown.

The one positive in looking at trading Tom is that he has the capacity to play at both ends of the ground, so I can see why both GWS and the Swans would be interested.

And as you say, flipping him for a nothing pick suits me just fine, esoe ially if adding Brown is the outcome. It's a big win for us if that occurs.

The swans are also showing some interest in T’Mac. They wanted him when he was out of contract. Again we will be getting very little compensation by way of a trade but it’s a salary dump situation.

Can see the attraction for the Swans.  Port seem very interested in Alir Alir and TMac has the flexibility to play his role: back, fwd, relief ruck.

why would Tom McDonald even be surprised? the trash he served up this year was just that bad that he didn't deserve a second chance

I actually think if he trims down and makes a move back to CHB he will be a great pick up for another club.

Agree,

Longmire is big on players being versatile, so I can see the appeal there for them. I like tmac, but he needs a fresh start just like Ben Brown needs a fresh start with us.

Why do people keep referring to Tom Mcdonald as being able to play in the backline? He showed consistently that he doesn't have the decision making skills to make it as a defender.  And thats largely why he made it as a forward as he doesn't have to make decisions. just mark and kick for goal.

He also went to see Jordan Peterson and was a guest on an IPA podcast, in case anyone needs further proof of his terrible decision making.

He needs to drop 7 kilos, get super fit and play for us. I’d like to see him and Weed running to the wings and kicking it to Brown with Fritz, Petracca as other options and then a fleet of classy kids and small forwards crumbing

I thought politics / ideology was kept off DL?

I feel the obsession in landing Brown overlooks what we already have

Sydney have a different game plan to us.  More man-on-man and less zone.  Longmire tends to use his sweepers to get the ball out of d50 rather than rely on the talls to get it out.  So TMac's kicking wouldn't be such an issue.

The IPA isnt a political side, it is Gina Rinehart and a small group of friends lobbying for their own gain. It promotes climate change denialism and lobbies to make insulting someone based on their race legal.

If TMac has decided the IPA is on his, or anyone elses side, then it's a poor decision.

Well, it's Murdoch too. Sir Keith started the IPA. And I'd argue it is political. The majority of the Government are IPA members, along with Bolt, that rock spider and that traitor trying to broker a better trade deal for his country of birth over the country he lead and still derives a pension from.

I hope that's one thing we can all agree on, politics and economics aside! And also, when getting behind the dees, none of that stuff should matter either.

Sorry to derail the thread, happy to keep it on TMac and how we can offload his salary or at least get value from his performance!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
