I don't love that tape at all. Seems to rush a lot of his disposals and doesn't play with any power, he doesn't use his speed to take on tacklers and doesn't hold the ball to release runners. A couple of good quick handballs but a couple of panicked turnover ones too. More of a Setterfield or Cale Morton type from that viewing. At that size and athleticism there's plenty to work with but there's also a lot of work to do!

I watch the tape and he has no depth in his kicking for his size.

Those 7 clubs dont need a high risk long term development player which is what Andrew is

They need on ballers with immediate impact

Andrew will be available late second round early third in my opinion due not to his qualities but more to do with club needs

That's not what the "experts" in 2022 are predicting.  Plenty of Clubs looking for a Dogga clone!!!

On the Mac Andrew thread, Action Jackson compared the statistics of Andrew and Jackson in their Under 18 year. There’s no evidence that Andrew is a clone of Jackson - the difference is light years.

Yep looks like a very shallow draft for mine. Then again, I thought the same about last year. Bowey = winning.

There's nothing surer than us picking up a bloke at pick 17, who is universally ranked at around pick 40

Matt Roberts reminds me of Dyson Heppell.  He’s a midfielder but also an all rounder type.  Certainly talented and wouldn’t be a poor choice.  I thought Power would be his new home given they need to restock their midfield.  Not sure he’s what MFC would pick but given he’s been top 10 quality, if he was a slider then JT would have to consider.  I think we may hope for a Goater, Sinn or Sonsie if they slide through.   I think all will be gone imv and would be looking at Chesser or Wilmot for outside run and pace across wing/half back.

Last year you said Roberts wasnt draft quality?

I couldn’t find such content in my history of posts to reference “Matt Roberts unlikely to be drafted” .
perhaps the context was that he wasn’t even eligible for the 2020 draft.  Perhaps that helps !! The comparison to Heppell stands and he will be drafted in 2021 draft. @IvanBartul13 Please give your assessment.  Also happy to hear your views on other players for critique!

Might be only 50 players drafted this year. Restricted year. Limited underage rep games. Tighter list spots.

My assessmement is the quote attached above and the discussion in the Rhyan Mansell thread are compelling in regards to what you thought of Roberts last year.  Now all of a sudden that he is in some phantoms, you have latched on to him.  Im still waiting for your help in accessing the WAFL colts tapes - or how to.

Thanks Turner for the support and not the trolling. With the Dees premiership, I was hoping it’s positive energy on DL for the future.  Usually a 70% strike rate.  Actually as well the considered later picks Mansell, Ford and Winder looked ok in their AFL debuts this year.

Got Salem over Freeman, Petracca over McCartin (who didn’t, yes the Saints) , Oliver over Parish.   Liked Wines over Toumpas as we all did.  Thought Gysberts and Lucas Cook picks were a (censored).

Definitely got Scully & Trengove over Martin wrong (but they were the chosen ones). Got Bowey wrong (he’s a beauty and ok to be wrong. Saints were bleeding once again😢).

It’s a guess work without interviews and all the backgrounds and full access that recruiters have. It’s all a bit of a fun, a distraction whilst we spend 5 months waiting for the action to begin.  There’s no guarantees.

JT is a legend and he’s been one of the keys behind our success. In JT we trust 🏆

Lol no you didn't.

I remember your post last year wanting to select Zavier Maher with our first pick who actually didn't even get drafted.

If recruiting was up to our team would be made up of delisted free agents and mature age recruits.

Track record is horrendous.

freeman is a good footballer showed so at the pies, and when given a second chance by the saints and then at vfl level this year, what was SONS supposed to predict his hammies wouldn't hold? expect you wanted him also to get on the blower to freo and remind them morabito at pick 4 was a no go coz he would do 4 acl's in the next 5 years too? why are we all sh1tt1ng on each other for having opinions? not like a top 10 draft has ever, literally ever still been the top 10 after 3 years let alone by the end of their careers

What the hell is going on - why are you guys so out to get SONS?  Who remembers people's draft preferences from 8 years ago?  No one is going to have a flawless record on this stuff - SONS does a reasonable job that most people appreciate.

Just changing the subject, there’s an article in the Adelaide Advertiser

AFL Draft 2021 ultimate guide: Every club’s picks, list needs and targetsWhat draft picks does your club have? And, more importantly, what will it do with them? We look at every team’s picks, list needs and targets.

Here’s what they say about Melbourne -

Melbourne

Draft picks: 17, 37, 49, 57, 94

List needs: Outside run, key forward depth

Who could be available at first pick:

Campbell Chesser, Mitch Owens, Tyler Sonsie, Jacob Van Rooyen, Jack Williams, Blake Howes

Could be in the mix after that: Cooper Murley, Judson Clarke, Sam Banks, Jack Avery, Morgan Ferres, Jordan Lukac, Josh, Rentsch

The premier has a well-balanced list with stars on every line so, if they don’t look to package their first two selections for one higher up the order, the Demons might just wait to see who slides. Chesser’s run-and-carry and Sonsie’s midfield class will appeal, while the athletic Howes would give Simon Goodwin’s side a new look on the wing. As would bolter Owens, who has grown 15cm over the past two years. And calling his name out inside the top 20 means St Kilda will not be able to match the bid for the NGA prospect. WA tall Williams would be a terrific selection if he were to slide outside of the top 30, while Murley and Clarke would add another layer to Melbourne’s ball-movement. Ferres is a mid-sized forward with strong hands, who is often a step ahead of opposition defenders with his running patterns. Rentsch, on the other hand, is a powerful, 197cm forward, who tied for this year’s Morrish Medal in the NAB League, if the Demons still need to add to their key-forward stocks late.

Does Chesser play for the Knights?

Chesser is from Wodonga and boarded at Melbourne Grammar. Played at Sandringham Dragons. Quick burst of pace. Seemed to do a lot of media and very presentable young man.  His injuries may see him slide down outside round 1. But his under 16s carnival form was outstanding so he will have to be strongly in the frame. If Dees want some outside mid pace, he may be seriously considered.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
