As a footballer Iā€™d always look hard at any offer made. You are a long time retired in this game. I love his honesty, his passion and his dedication. Long may he hurt the opposition players.

That would be great if he wasn't the main offender

Happy he signed but not for 5 years

Hope they move him out of the midfield

So it appears all dont share the Goodwin vision

Jack put himself on the market with a top line Club. They put a value on him within their system of player payments. A system that has bought them premierships and long term finals participation. We put a higher $ valuation on Jack. Time will tell which Club had the better payment system and valuation.

Well Jack chose US, How go you know he is getting more $$$ here than atĀ Cats?

Presumption I imagine.

Jack did what Ā he shoul do test the market and not surprisingly decided to stay.

As all loyal Dees fans we should rejoice Jacks vision still for success here and just think about the ramifications if he had deserted us. And no matter what we say about his ability there is no doubt we are a better team With Jack in it.

Its up to Goody and the Coaches yo get him to select the first option and kick more right foot BUT overall to get all our midfield stars and assistants playing as a team which maximises our ability.

Do that andĀ Ā you/weĀ will Not talk about the above issues.

Much easier than trying to recruit a replacement however if we do that may I suggest Shane Edwards of the Tigers might be open andĀ gettable is at a fair price fir ability etc.Ā

It has been well reported that we gave Jack an offer, he then listened to the Cats offer. We increased our offer and he took our increased offer that was more than the Cats.

We're usually on the same page LH but I don't read this the same way.Ā

I love what Jack has said in this article.Ā  He IS a key element to our future success and he recognises that.Ā  I like that he says everyone has to buy in to what'sĀ best for the team, and for example if he is required to spend some time as a small forward then he would do it if he is trueĀ to his word.Ā  It really resonates for me that he has aligned himself strongly with Goodwin, he has unequivocally committed his support, that's what I want to see. Goodwin will be coach in 2021 and it will be a pivotal year for him.Ā  I don't want to see any players second guessing that.

You've got no idea what was offered, when it was offered and what the final contract offer is.Ā  If you believe media on this you're silly.Ā  Players, managers and clubs will fill this space with misinformation.

Time to get smarter.

Fairly nasty response to me just saying what has been consitently reported. I am not aware of anyone hereĀ who knows of every contract players have but this is a site for opinions and my opinion stands that we will be paying Jack more and likely for longer than the Cats were prepared to. It is a fact the Cats have a philosophy of paying unders in the interests of team harmony and success. As for smarter, Geelong have a long standing record of being smarter and more successful than Melbourne, so take personalities out of it and decide who is smarter.Ā

How, from the depths of Hades could Gee-long be smarter than Melbourne!!!

It could have been manufactured because he was copping a bit of flak. After allĀ  there are step ups being needed by all, and not just on the ground...........

Jack Viney is a Melbourne boy from year dot it is instilled in him . His loyalty is strong and he buys in for the causeĀ  the love for his club, his team matesĀ  and for the supportersĀ Ā imo.Ā  A guy that doesn't take a backward step . book.

He is one you want to have by your side.

Where's it been reported that the contract he ultimately signed was worth more than whatever Geelong offered?

I believe it's been reported that our opening offer and Geelong's opening offer were a gap apart. That doesn't mean we immediately offered more than Geelong did in response.

Or is that just your opinion? In which case you've got nothing at all, other than your own pessimism, to base that on.

Well HFF when have these reports been and where?

An announcement on the 46 Tram to Coburg by a Melb masked staffer ???

what Radio tv or other news item did you glean your information?Ā

Interestingly I dont thinkĀ Ā you reported this prior to his decision snd no other D/L ers have heard or stated whatĀ you are now claimingĀ and what if we are paying Say $50,000 over 5 years ie $10,000 more isĀ that a crime?

Many ofĀ Geelong's aging recruits have wanted and indicated prior to negotiations that they want to go there (without knowing exactly their salary ) ie just wanted to go to a successful ClubĀ ( as with Hawks) .

By your post you obviously don't want Jack in 2021 as no indication of the potential carnage and morale damage is on your radar!
Ā

What I said in my post is what Jack has basically said re team play and noĀ matter what We think about say Goody there is already hope of greater vision and creativity in the Box onĀ Match Day.

Time Ā will tell Re Jack and our results but you have not established any credibility that your post has much truth or fear that weĀ Ā have committed a crucial sin in retaining our most passionate,Ā Ā fiery and brutal competitor toĀ play Most of his career outĀ seeking redemption for over 50Ā years Of frustration and mediocrity.

Actually Iā€™d say typically players end up getting less if they stay compared to leaving. Perhaps we have an extra year on the contract as our carrot.Ā

There is a big difference between well reported and reported well

Very little in the AFL industry is reported well

Except for all the times it is correct. Frawley is leaving rumour, Howe leaving rumour, Hogan wants to go home. Dee interested in Lever, May,Langdon etc.Ā

So you sorta get the point without knowing it. probably busy in the Coburg tram dodging ticket inspectors. Successful Clubs attract good players for reasons of not only big salaries.

I'm talking bushwalks. Also, the biggest no no is the ink on the paper. The bottom line, is that the Murdoch papers are the equivalent of POOOO.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sundayā€™s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullartonā€™s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Caseyā€™s three matches and, with Melbourneā€™s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next weekā€™s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forwardā€™s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasnā€™t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the teamā€™s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourneā€™s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season.Ā There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight.Ā Since that game, the Demonsā€™ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ā€˜G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sundayā€™s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
