Having watched Petracca develop into an elite player under Burgess, I now think Burgo should do the same with Brayshaw.  Get him super fit and to the level he should be.  IMHO.

You realise he can't run? Won't be happening this pre season.

Burgo might not even be there next year by the looks of it.

Great idea. Pity he spent all of last preseason with Petracca only, instead of performing his role for all players on the list.

There has to be something inherently wrong inside the four walls if we can't hang on to a head of fitness guy who's under contract.

who has just gone through an extraordinary season and now has the chance to return to the city in which his kids reside and be paid more than the remaining two years at a reduced rate that we'll be able to pay

everyone in the footy dept will be expected to take a pay cut to help accommodate the soft cap - arguably that renders the existing contracts null and void

i hope like hell we can hold him to his deal but at the same time i can see reasons why he would want out

Its family related.

His kids live back in SA with his ex wife and he wants to be closer to them.

Bit like the Brad Miller situation years ago.

Didn’t Brad Miller move to the Punt Road oval? ? That’s a long way from the MCG (where Richmond also played).

I think he means when Miller left the Dees coaching staff for GWS in 2016, as his kids are with Pia in Sydney.

Do people think Burgess only trained Petracca last season and didn’t bother with the other 44 on the list?

The penny dropped with Tracc and he got fitter, all Burgo did was provide the same program he did to the rest of the club (individually tailored of course).

No matter who’s running our fitness department it’s up to Gus to do the work and earn the coaches trust that his speed, intensity and endurance demands centre square time. Unfortunate a crook foot is not the ideal starting point

wasn't gus the one who ran 100x100m for fun over xmas in his early days? seems he was pretty self motivated on fitness/endurance back then. so what changed?

I’m sure Gus does what is needed to be good, but maybe it’s a few too many of his special onions on some snags after the 100’s. Needs to be rock hard fit and a running machine like his brother or Trav Boak to be his bes

i don't think fitness is an issue with gus; he just picks and chooses when to go

late in a game, running i50 to present to get a mark and a shot on goal? works his legs to get there

blocking defensively in the d50 to allow others to make the easy exit? stands flatfooted and doesn't impact the contest

Don't think Gus has been able to do this over the last 2 years due to injury, but yeah him and his brothers do this every Christmas day, not sure if his foot injury will be healed enough by then, but I think he's one that really needs a full pre-season to perform his best, hopefully he's back running fully really soon.

Surely he was aware of this and accepted it or he wouldn't have accepted the contract terms (ie;  gone for a shorter length) and/or not signed the contract.

I think  Covid was the big pull.

Chicken Little the sky is falling, he is not going anywhere, if he wanted to go back to SA for family reasons, then he would have gone there after he come back form overseas, I think that part is made up, this is how it goes, he is from SA, a SA clubs tries to poach him, then journalist assumes he must want to go back home for family reasons, fake News.

It's definitely not fitness. the club needs to hire the absolute best sports psychologist they can find, most of the challenges guys like Gus face in this industry are above the shoulders.

he needs to start to believe he's an A grader for us to see the version of Gus that dominated in 2018, i don't think he believes he's that player.

quite the contrary, i think - gus believes he's an a-grader and doesn't need to do the hard work to remain at that status

If another person mentions "but what about the 100x100m at Christmas" again I'll spew

It takes a consistent dedication to a training and fitness regimen to get to the level and maintain that level of an elite athlete. And the right attitude on how to apply that fitness, not picking and choosing when is right for me

He's not running around with his mates in the ammos

Gus just needs to grow up.

Tend to agree - still a bit of the old boy, ammo stuff about our club. I cringed a bit at the last Captain’s Run podcast, with Gus and Wattsy chewing the fat like a couple of Church St retirees.

That's an irresponsible and mischievous comment without IMO any real knowledge of the true facts.

Lets know if you have  any proof of this or not!  Deanox.?

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
