Bayley Fritsch signs on for 2 more years

2 years is ok, I wonder what the salary is hopefully we didn't give him more than the average wage

Better than an average player so he would deserve it. Of the 44 players on our list clearly in the 22

This guy is a gem!

Despite some goalkicking issues, he still hit the scoreboard and was a fantastic undersized target.

With games back to 20-minute quarters and a full 22 game fixture, it's not unreasonable to think he might kick 40+ goals next year.

He has been a great find and exactly the kind of left-field recruiting we need to replicate, if we're going to make a run over the next few years.

Dear Mr Fritsch please stand in front of a set of goals at your local park for four hours every day and practice kicking goals.

2 years is a good extension for him, he’s got some very good attributes but there are plenty of things he needs to work on (starting with accuracy!).

And Max, I’m sure it was a joke but don’t name him as the future Coleman medal winner again!

He’s pretty average really but could be great in a team with some great forwards to complement his poor kicking.

I suggest a set of wireless earbuds programmed with every distractive noise you can think of.

The aim is to completely zone out everything and kick.

Can't do much harm.

Plus study every ground and work out how far you can lead to the pocket before substantially reducing your accuracy.

Let's face it he only needs to turn one of those behinds each week into a goal and he's a top ten goalkicker.

Pity he can't practice at the MCG but we just have to be smarter with some of our training

No coq he is only problem his results are a bit over average when he could have top results irrespective of the other forwards in the team.

He is hamstrung by his lack of confidence and Swagger fir want of a better word.

Kicking is in his head IMO and he needs to bulk up to be better in marking duels and fir tackling.

He is a beautiful natural kick. Watch him before a game, doesn’t miss. He has a big case of the yips. A sports psychologist is needed. Get his head right and he could be a gun

I like this quote:

“I’m looking forward to coming back next year and really driving all the forwards to hopefully be one of the better forward groups in the comp and ultimately get some team success.”

Absolutely DD it's all in the head!

BUT greater bulk for marking Fuels and tackling AND smarter leading down field not to the pockets Will give Fritta a big season 45/50 goals even.

The fact that important players sign on for only 2 years is a bit of a worry. It shows they want to keep their options open.

Not sure he needs to bulk up but I'm no expert.

It seems to me that he is rarely out-marked or knocked off the ball, even with such a slight frame.

Disagree Cheesy he can be ragged a bit but still has some good skills fir his physique in marking etc.

BUT tackling needs more bulk to hold ball in and Bailey can get bigger and I believe even fitter like say Trac who must be the benchmark NOW.

Club can't win Bingers give them 4/5 years like Tommy and Harmesy and all D/L come down in FD.

I am happy Trac only did a 2 but you can resign ( as fir Goody !!!!) early like Tivers if pressure is coming to retain etc.

Or potentially backing themselves to earn bigger $$ at their peak / after consistent performances.

So much potential.

He needs to toss out whatever Stafford tried to teach him and do his own thing moving forward.
Such a pure striker of the ball but this year his overall accuracy went down the toilet.

Great news to have him for another two.

It's in the head not technique and Bayley could slo bulk up etc and msybe smile and enjoy his footy rather than look as though the world depends upon him.

Future A grader if we develop properly!!

Maybe we should have recruited Oscar McInerney out of the same ‘left field’? ? Both came from the Casey Demons and now Oscar is a cult figure at Brisbane (and will probably feature in the Grand Final).

You could be right there.

spot on, his body work 1on1 is class times and executes it perfectly to unbalance oppo + he can leap too

we really liked him i remember, brissie jumped in ahead of us in the rookie draft we ended up with bull smith and kielty, but the big o was absolutely on the radar. i guess we saw more in flip too ?‍♂️ at least we know now just to poach ruckman or wait till theyve developed

Love Bailey. He created enough opportunities vs Essendon that he could have easily kicked 7 or 8 (a couple of close missed marks on the goal-line, a couple hand-offs, and some poor shots on goal), but there's not many players in the AFL you can say that about. I'm pretty confident he will come back from the yips. Add an extra key forward to the mix and he slides down a spot in terms of defenders - such a difficult match-up. Would hate to play against him. Happiest signing since Trac for me.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
